Does Google only look at LSI per page or context of the Site?
-
From what I have read i should optimise each page for a keyword/phrase, however, I read recently that google may also look at the context of the site to see if there are other similar words.
For example i have different pages optimised for Funeral Planning, funeral plans, funeral plan costs, compare funeral plans, why buy a funeral plan, paying for a funeral, prepaid funeral plans.
Is this the best strategy when the words/phrases are so close or should i go for longer pages with the variations on one page or at least less pages?
Thanks
Ash

Thank Everett thats really helpful.
I must admit i do wonder whether i have split out too many pages that could be combined, I think when i launched this version of the site in June, i was trying to focus a core keyword per page, with plurials etc, as i didnt think google would in the example you used pick up funeral planning & funeral plans as connected - god this job is hard sometimes!

Hello AshShep1,
I don't think anyone is going to be able to tell you for sure whether Google looks at LSI specifically on a per-page or site-wide basis. However, it sounds like there is definitely some overlap with your landing pages. For example, "funeral planning" and "funeral plans" could probably be one page, which then links off to the others. The fact that Google bolds "planning" when I search for "funeral plans" tells me they view the two keywords as being so semantically related as to be almost synonymous.
The "funeral plan costs" and "paying for a funeral" page sound like they could be combined, and the "compare funeral plans" and "prepaid funeral plans" could probably be combined. I would look into the keywords to see which, if any, have the overwhelming majority of search volume and focus on that one while using the others as secondary or tertiary keywords within the context of the page.
But...Really it comes down to how you think the information is best presented to your visitors. If the "prepaid funeral plans" or the "compare funeral plans" content is best presented on its own then that is what you should do.
You may be seeking a more concrete answer from someone so I will leave this question open as a discussion for awhile. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Everything should be done within the context of the site.

Blocking Dynamic Search Result Pages From Google
Hi Mozzerds, I have a quick question that probably won't have just one solution. Most of the pages that Moz crawled for duplicate content we're dynamic search result pages on my site. Could this be a simple fix of just blocking these pages from Google altogether? Or would Moz just crawl these pages as critical crawl errors instead of content errors? Ultimately, I contemplated whether or not I wanted to rank for these pages but I don't think it's worth it considering I have multiple product pages that rank well. I think in my case, the best is probably to leave out these search pages since they have more of a negative impact on my site resulting in more content errors than I would like. So would blocking these pages from the Search Engines and Moz be a good idea? Maybe a second opinion would help: what do you think I should do? Is there another way to go about this and would blocking these pages do anything to reduce the number of content errors on my site? I appreciate any feedback! Thanks! Andrew

Google can't access/crawl my site!
Hi I'm dealing with this problem for a few days. In fact i didn't realize it was this serious until today when i saw most of my site "de-indexed" and losing most of the rankings. [URL Errors: 1st photo] 8/21/14 there were only 42 errors but in 8/22/14 this number went to 272 and it just keeps going up. The site i'm talking about is gazetaexpress.com (media news, custom cms) with lot's of pages. After i did some research i came to the conclusion that the problem is to the firewall, who might have blocked google bots from accessing the site. But the server administrator is saying that this isn't true and no google bots have been blocked. Also when i go to WMT, and try to Fetch as Google the site, this is what i get: [Fetch as Google: 2nd photo] From more than 60 tries, 2-3 times it showed Complete (and this only to homepage, never to articles). What can be the problem? Can i get Google to crawl properly my site and is there a chance that i will lose my previous rankings? Thanks a lot

Why will google not index my pages?
About 6 weeks ago we moved a subcategory out to becomne a main category using all the same content. We also removed 100's of old products and replaced these with new variation listings to remove duplicate content issues. The problem is google will not index 12 critcal pages and our ranking have slumped for the keywords in the categories. What can i do to entice google to index these pages?

I have a .com site but I am only ranking good on google for Canada and not the USA.
We are located in Canada but sell our products world wide. We are ranking ok on google.ca but are not in the top 50 on google.com. Is it due to my ip address? Is there any tips that you can give me to help up my rating for google.com. Any info you can provide me with will be amazing. Thanks,

How to see which site Google views as a scraper site?
If we have content on our site that is found on another site, what is the best way to know which site Google views as the original source? If you search for a line of the content such as "xyz abc etc" and the other site shows before yours in search results, does that mean that Google views that site as the original source?

Google replacing subpages in index with home page?
Hi! I run a backlink building company. Recently, we had a customer who had us build targeted backlinks to certain subpages on his site. Then something really bizarre happened...all of a sudden, their subpages that were indexed in Google (the ones we were building links to) disappeared from the index, to be replaced with their home page. They haven't lost their rank, per se--it's just now their home page instead of their subpages. At this point, we are tracking literally thousands of keywords for our link building customers, and we've never run into this issue before. Have you ever run into it? If so, what's the best way to handle it from an SEO company perspective? They have a sitemap.xml and their GWT account reports no crawl errors, so it doesn't seem to be a site issue.
