How can I stop google indexing an image
-
I have put a map of cornwall on my site on the Corwnall Page, and for some reason Google.de has picked it up and shows it up in the top 4 images for a search for cornwall?
The result is I am getting about 80% of the traffic coming to my site for the search Cornwall (I get about 50 unique visits per day, over 40 a day are landing on the Cornwall page.
Is this a problem for my normal SEO as a Close up Magician?
Will google start to think my site is about Cornwall?
Should I noindex the image (I say that like I know how! - How do I noindex that image? )
Or is any traffic to a site good traffic, I imagine they will be clicking on the link landing on the page and then leaving, which I suspect is not good for google reputation.
Any thoughts anyone
Thanks
Roger

Davinia is correct In my opinion. There is no reason to not want the image indexed.

Hi Roger,
I’m a believer in quality over quantity, so having a website indexed for a relevant search query is important.
You could deindex this image, or you could use this as an opportunity to ‘fix’ the current placement and increase your visibility on search engine result pages to those specifically looking for a magician in Cornwall and those looking for event ideas in Cornwall.
I’d recommend changing your image name from “map-of-cornwall.jpg” to something more in line with what you do e.g. “magician-in-cornwall.jpg” and also change your alt tag from “Map of Cornwall” to “Magician hire in Cornwall” – or something similar. You could also add a call-to-action link for “Booking events in Cornwall” and don’t forget to update the heading of the map image as well. This will help search engines to better understand your websites relationship with Cornwall.
If you want to deindex you can use the robots.txt file (just add to the one you already have http://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/robots.txt) – Here is Googles instructions on how to remove images from Google image search https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35308?hl=en
Good luck,

Google may well see an association between your site and Cornwall because of the image (and other factors, the mentions you make of Cornwall on your site for example) but that's a good thing, as it's an area that you cover/target. Your site is first and foremost about you being a magician so I don't think you have anything negative to worry about with the map - if Google has made an association with your site and Cornwall, it should help you rank better in the local Cornwall search results.

You can deindex the image using a robots.txt rule, however, any extra traffic you can get from it is better than nothing right? Why bother?

Can you confirm legitimate Google Bot traffic?
We use Cloudflare as a firewall. I noticed a significant number of blocks of bot traffic. One of the things they do is try to block bad bot traffic. But it seems they are mistakenly blocking Google Bot traffic. If you use Cloudflare, you may want to look into this as well. Also, can you confirm if the following IPs are for legitimate Google Bots? 66.249.79.88

If Google's index contains multiple URLs for my homepage, does that mean the canonical tag is not working?
I have a site which is using canonical tags on all pages, however not all duplicate versions of the homepage are 301'd due to a limitation in the hosting platform. So some site visitors get www.example.com/default.aspx while others just get www.example.com. I can see the correct canonical tag on the source code of both versions of this homepage, but when I search Google for the specific URL "www.example.com/default.aspx" I see that they've indexed that specific URL as well as the "clean" one. Is this a concern... shouldn't Google only show me the clean URL?

Homepage no longer indexed in Google
Have been working on a site and the hompage has recently vanished from Google. I submit the site to Google webmaster tools a couple of days ago and checked today and the homepage has vanished. There are no no follow tags, and no robots.txt stopping the page from being crawled. It's a bit of a worry, the site is http://www.beyondthedeal.com

Website is not indexed in Google
Hi Guys, I have a problem with a website from a customer. His website is not indexed in Google (except for the homepage). I could not find anything that can possibly be the cause. I already checked the robots.txt, sitemap, and plugins on the website. In the HTML code i also couldn't find anything which makes indexing harder than usual. This is the website i am talking about: http://www.xxxx.nl/ (Dutch) The only thing that i am guessing now is the Google sandbox, but even that is quite unlikely. I hope you guys discover something i could not find! Thanks in advance 🙂

Can anyone help me understand why google is "Not Selecting" a large number of my webpages to include when crawling my site.
When looking through my google webmaster tools, I clicked into the advanced settings under index status and was surprised to see that google has marked around 90% of my pages on my site as "Not Selected" when crawling. Please take a look and offer any suggestions. www.luxuryhomehunt.com

What can i do to let google know we are a lifestyle magazine
Hi my site http://www.in2town.co.uk/ is a lifestyle magazine and before we changed templates and changed the joomla language from 1.0 to 1.5 our lifestyle magazine was getting around 10,000 visitors a day and we were number one in google for the search term lifestyle magazine. In the past few months we have been number five for the search term lifestyle magazine and now since yesterday we have dropped to ten. I have a serious problem that being a online lifestyle magazine i do not have the luxury to have lots of text telling people it is a lifestyle magazine and google. What i mean is, if this was a website about benidorm then you would have an introduction about benidorm so google would understand what the site is about. What i would like help on, is to get back to the top and know where i can put a nice introduction which does not look out of place and what i can do to get back to the top under the search term lifestyle magazine. any help would be great
