Should I set geogrphic target to United States in webmaster tools?
-
Hi, Would really appreciate some input on this.
My client www.dgatours.com is aiming primarily at United States in terms of audience as this is where predominately the clients come from.
I set the geographic target as this is a .com site to United States in google webmaster tools, is that the right thing to do or should I have left it unassigned?
I am finding it hard to see the results that I get from SEOMOZ as I am in the UK and am wondering if by setting the geographic target to the United States I am narrowing the potential search results from google.
thanks very much
Tracy

Hi Ryan,
If the target audience are in the USA, then it seems like the sensible thing to do.
Good luck

Either method would lead to the same result.
The .com domain is viewed as an international domain. By default, Google will look at the IP of your host and (assuming you are hosting in the US) associate your site with the US.
The main reason you would want to use the United States setting would be if you chose to host your site outside the US, but you serviced primarily US-based customers.

Hello,
Google should be able to geo-locate the site automatically by looking at citations and information contained within your website so I don't really worry too much about using the geo targetting setting in Webmaster tools.
What I would suggest that as well as building links to this site, make sure you do lots of citations too as some of the terms you are targeting, including 'london tours'' brings up local results on both Google.com and Google.co.uk.
Also, if you do a search for dga tours on google.co.uk it thinks the site is located in the USA.
If I were you I'd put the whole company address on the clients website, I would also build some citations so you can also get a local, or combined local / organic, result on the search engine results page - they should also give you rankings a boost too.
Hope this helps.
Gordon

Webmaster Rankings vs. Moz Rankings
Hello all. For quite some time, both Moz & Ahrefs have indicated to me that I am in first position for several keywords. However, when I go into my Google Webmaster Tools, it says that I am in 7th or 8th position. Any idea why there is such a discrepancy?

How can I "target keywords"?
Hello everyone, Could you please explain how can I "target keywords"? So from my understanding, I do a research on keywords, then find those which I can rank for easily, and then what? Do I build links to my website pages with these keywords? Or do I create different articles on the website with this keyword?

What's better, lots of keyword targeted pages or fewer pages with more traffic going into them?
We have just introduced targeted pages for all of our keywords, however their is lots of overlap with existing established pages. For instance for the keyword Small Meeting Rooms we have the new page, titled Small-Meeting-Rooms which is now competing with the more established Meeting-Rooms. Its early days for both pages, about 2 weeks and 6 weeks respectively. But is it counterproductive to spread out our search juice between lost of pages? Should we just focus on a few? Any feedback, especially feedback based on real experiences is much appreciated!?

Keyword Research tool time-effort equivalent
SEOMoz's keyword research tool is awesome, but what does the competitiveness actually mean in terms of time/effort? I've read the help file which is great but to get an idea, to rank for highly competitive keywords, is that 12 months of constant effort, link-building and keyword buying or more like 3 months? (how massive is massive?) I know its a hard question to answer, but an idea would be awesome. Thanks to anyone that can answer in advance...
