Appropriate way to do the "Link to us" stuff.
-
We have just developed a nice web app, and we are excited how quickly its getting popular (based on facebook likes, shares etc). Everybody just loves it! Now, majority of the traffic to our website comes from Google Adwords, and the website is quite new. I was just wondering if I place a snippet about "Link to us" with a HTML code. What are your thoughts? If 200 people link to us, they will be using the same anchor text, isn't this unsafe?
I would really appreciate some expert advice on the above.
Thanks!

Not that much people will actually link to you (people are naturally lazy or don't have blogs) so don't worry. I would just put the site's brand in there like "Link to Brand or url" and have it change from time to time. You can have you developer create a simple form where people can enter what they want and it would generate an embed code which will fit their site/blog perfectly.
In my experience, people will choose to use social buttons rather than sharing actual links on their blogs (I'm referring to regular people unless you target bloggers) so having the buttons there would give you more benefits rather than not having it on the page.

Hi, I would say firstly that it depends on who your app is for and as such who may want to link to your site.
Is it an app that businesses will use or for Joe Public, i.e. consumers? If the latter then it's likely that many of them won't have sites to link to yours anyway. If the app is for businesses, then you may get some traction for sites willing to link, but unless these are sites that have relevance to your app site, then they could just be seen as spammy links, especially with the same anchor text repeated.
In my opinion, if you are already having some success with social likes and shares, then you are better to work on growing that, thereby increasing visitors and raising the currency of your site that way.
I hope that helps,
Peter

What is the best way to remove a link that redirects to a spammy site?
I've got a new client and I'm trying to clean up their backlinks. There are several links that all redirect to this spam site http://www.expert-lender.com. All of the websites appear to be real, i.e. http://www.sammorganhomes.com/ but the actual links i.e http://www.sammorganhomes.com/wp-fav/backup/supplement/semitruckleasing.html are in a sub-directory and redirect to the spam site. I don't know if these links were from the previous SEO company or if they paid someone to create these or if these sites have been hacked. Can anyone tell me what is going on here and what should I tell these site owners?

Is it a reciprocal Link ?
Hi, I found a great website and tought its content would be extremely interesting for our clients. I wrote about it on my blog (which has an URL with our website URL in it) , Facebook Page and even in Twitter. Meanwhile, I contacted them and offered to write an article about an interesting subject for them. They accepted and liked it so much that they decided to put 2 links for us on two of their pages. My questions are : Will this be a reciprocal link for Google? Did I make a mistake talking about them on my blog ? Did I «devaluate» the links they gave us?

More "new" root domains or more pages on older domains?
I have been slowly building links via personal/professional networking, press from art shows, blogging, and such. I work with several non related domains & local blogs & press outlets, it is pretty easy for me to add a few new pages of content along with text links. Or should I just concentrate on getting links from totally "new" domains that have never linked to me before?

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?
I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?

Do image links with no alt tags pass link value?
"... an image link with no alt tag is useless to search engines..." according to a Nov 2007 seomoz blog post. Is this still the case in 2011? I ask because I'm about to obtain a banner link on a high-traffic site (chiefly for the clickthrough value) but I notice the site uses neither "title" nor "alt" tags.
