Extrapolating Google volumes from the Bing volumes
-
What would you give someone as a general rule for extrapolating Google search volumes from the Bing volumes? I'm looking at the Moz keyword analysis tools and only Bing search volumes are listed so I'm wondering how I could those figures to estimate Google search volumes.

Practically speaking, in my experience the difference ranges from a 1:1 relationship to a 1:8 relationship, which is a huge spread.
A lot of SEOs I know, including our tools developers here at Moz, have shown an interest in Grep Words. Might be worth checking out if you were interested.

In order to do this with any degree of accuracy you'd need to have a deep understanding of who is searching for the particular query. Once you've got that demographic (nationality, market segment etc) nailed, you'd then need to establish the number of these type of users who use bing vs google and then multiply the volume to get something close to the Google volume.
BUT It's not something you really need to do and I certainly wouldn't suggest trying. What you're looking at when you're comparing keywords is the relative volumes between the different keywords you're researching as you look for that holy grail of high volume / low competition.
To get the Google keyword volumes you're going to have to use the Keyword Planner in Adwords I'm afraid - and even then the keyword volumes are bucketed.
I tend to have already established a list of potential target keywords/topics before I start my research using the keyword difficulty tool to determine whether they are realistic to chase and whether they should be short term or long term goals.

A Solution to Keywords Being Grouped in Google Keyword Planner
Hi guys, I am trying to get search traffic for a list of keywords which I put together a few years ago for one of my clients, this was before Google made changes to their Keyword Planner. When I am adding the list into Google Keyword Planner it is "grouping" a number of the keywords/phrases together, and therefore removing 13 of the keywords from the original list of 59 keywords. Is there a way around this so I can get search volume for the original list, and not the cut down one? I am specifically using Google Keyword Planner as I want to get search volume for a number of specific locations in the UK. Any comments/feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jack. Why is my Google search bringing me other keywords than what I typed in?
When searching Condor Voucher on Google US where our business operates the SERP results show results on the first page that do not contain the keyword Voucher at all but instead Condor Coupons and Condor Promo Codes. Is this due to relevance of the other sites(higher search volume keyword), their domain authority, page authority, better authoritative content? Or does Google recognize that voucher is not often used in US and uses more common keywords such as Coupon and Promo Code? Therefore we cant rank for a term with such a low search volume?

Ignore keywords that have no data in the Google Keyword Tool?
Hello, There are some keywords that have no monthly search data in the Google Keyword Tool. In many cases, this is because there have been very few searches for the keyword. Would you recommend focusing on other keywords that do have search data in the Google Keyword Tool? Perhaps focusing too far out on the long tail of search results can be less productive than focusing on keywords that have proven that at least some people care about them. What do you think? Thanks!
