2 canonical links on 1 page, 1 for print version
-
Our developer has added a 2nd canonoical link for the "print" version of our page. I read on another post that this appears to be not be the correct way to do this. Is there a better way ? Here is an example of the code:
-
I'm pretty sure if you just chop off the last tag, , you are going to be perfectly fine.
There should be one canonical tag and it should point to the URL of the original document or the version that you want search engines to view as the main document.
-
If we look at this a different way, the style sheet may make it look different but the content is the same, so you don't really need two of the same content indexed. This only affects the robots so a user wouldn't see a difference and could still access the printer friendly version, presumably you would have a link to the printer version on the original and so that's why its good for the original.
So to clarify - If you have the same content across multiple pages you want to select one page as the original and link back to that page via the tag in all of the duplicates.
I hope that helps clear it up for you.
-
I guess this is confusing because there is one page (the recipe) and that page just gets rendered with a different style sheet if a user wants to print it out, but this DOES create a different URL.
So you are saying, as long as we put this on the recipe page:
That when the style sheet renders that page as :
http://xxx.xxxxxx.com/recipes/**print/**winter-creme-fraiche-baked-potato-soup
it will include the canonical link back to the recipe page? -
Hello,
you only need one tag pointing towards to main page so on all duplicates you would have the following (the same) tag
assuming http://xxx.xxxxxx.com/recipes/winter-creme-fraiche-baked-potato-soup is the original
What the tag does is tell Google "this is a duplicate but you can find the original here" Google will then ignore that page (not rank) it.
Hope that helps and its clear. More info can be found here - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139394?hl=en

Tumblr and Link Equity
Hi Moz Community, I've recently decided to start a project where I gather 1,000 great examples of something that's searched for often, and am thinking that posting it to a Tumblr site like the following website did could be a great way to pass link equity back to my main site (with a little "site by [my site]" somewhere in the header or footer). While I was super pumped about this idea today, and have now gathered almost 500 of my examples (mentioned above), I am not seeing link equity passed from this site, even on the non-redirected links here: http://gothamlogos.tumblr.com/ Anyone have any experience with projects like this? I've checked read the Moz Tumblr and SEO article from a few years ago, which makes it seem like this should be an SEO "win"... But using the Moz Pro account tools, I'm not seeing any of these non-redirect links (ordinary links) giving any value to anyone on this example site. Thanks so much in advance, Zack

How do you check the outbound links of a site?
There are great tools like http://www.opensiteexplorer.org that will tell you all about the inbound links. What about the more basic and easier question: What outgoing links does this site have?

Too Many On-Page Links: Crawl Diag vs On-Page
I've got a site I'm optimizing that has thousands of 'too many links on-page' warnings from the SeoMoz crawl diagnostic. I've been in there and realized that there are indeed, the rent is too damned high, and it's due to a header/left/footer category menu that's repeating itself. So I changed these links to NoFollow, cutting my total links by about 50 per page. I was too impatient to wait for a new crawl, so I used the On Page Reports to see if anything would come up on the Internal Link Count/External Link Count factors, and nothing did. However, the crawl (eventually) came back with the same warning. I looked at the link Count in the crawl details, and realized that it's basically counting every single '<a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p=""></a> <a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p="">1. Apologies if this has been asked, the search didn't seem to come up with anything specific to this.</a>

Status 404-pages
Hi all, One of my websites has been crawled by SEOmoz this week. The crawl showed me 3 errors: 1 missing title and 2 client errors (4XX). One of these client errors is the 404-page itself! What's your suggestion about this error? Should a 404-page have the 404 http status? I'd like to hear your opinion about this one! Thanks all!

Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain)
Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain) Pretty self explanatory. I want to know what metrics SEOMozzers rely on most. If you are not an expert at evaluating links for large scale development please don't muddy the waters on this question with a thin and vague answer.
