Google Webmaster indicates robots.text access error

Seems that Google has not been crawling due to an access issue with our robots.txt
Late 2013 we migrated to a new host, WPEngine, so things might have changed, however this issue appears to be recent.A quick test shows I can access the file.
This is the Google Webmaster Tool message: http://www.growth trac dot com/: Googlebot can't access your site January 17, 2014 Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 62 errors while attempting to access your robots.txt. To ensure that we didn't crawl any pages listed in that file, we postponed our crawl. Your site's overall robots.txt error rate is 8.8%
Note the above message says 'over the last 24 hours', however the date is Jan-17
This is the response from our host:
Thanks for contacting WP Engine support! I looked into the suggestions listed below and it doesn't appear that these scenarios are the cause of the errors. I looked into the server logs and I was only able to find 200 server responses on the /robots.txt. Secondly I made sure that the server wasn't over loaded. The last suggestion doesn't apply to your setup on WP Engine. We do not have any leads as to why the errors occurred. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.Google is crawling the site-- should I be concerned? If so, is there a way to remedy this? By the way, our robots file is very lean, only a few lines, not a big deal.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. Free product = No Service

Cody, thank you.
And... there is no 'Google contact' for these kinds of issues, correct? (dumb question).

This happens from time to time on sites that I manage. I usually just check to make sure that it has been crawling since that date. If it has, then life is good.
If it hasn't, then I usually shout obscenities before trying to find the problem. The obscenities don't directly contribute to a solution, but it does seem to make me calm down a bit. Anyway, I digress.
Take a look at your webmaster tools, and see how well the site has been being crawled since that date. Is it all O.K.? If not, try to describe any changes you made in the weeks prior to that date.

Can Anyone help me with Google search console soft 404 error?
Hello everyone, I just build one site on WordPress and submitted it to the Google search console along with the sitemap. Some URLs got indexed but one of my URL is showing error in Search console. My post https://hotpass.site/create-subdomain-godaddy/ is showing soft error 404 webpage not available in Google search console. I have rechecked the site and seo settings. Nothing is there. I have even checked it with LIVE URL test. But still Search console is not accepting this URL. Can anyone help me with this? Help will be appriciated.

Crawl errors for pages that no longer exist
Hey folks, I've been working on a site recently where I took a bunch of old, outdated pages down. In the Google Search Console "Crawl Errors" section, I've started seeing a bunch of "Not Found" errors for those pages. That makes perfect sense. The thing that I'm confused about is that the "Linked From" list only shows a sitemap that I ALSO took down. Alternatively, some of them list other old, removed pages in the "Linked From" list. Is there a reason that Google is trying to inform me that pages/sitemaps that don't exist are somehow still linking to other pages that don't exist? And is this ultimately something I should be concerned about? Thanks!

Google News Bug
During today and yesterday we are getting a lot of visits (Over 400) from http://news.google.com the visits are all at the same time and to different pages, the visits are very brief so much so that it pushes our bounce rate up to 69% in GA. Is there anything we can do to stop this? Thank you in advance?

Google analytics : exclude traffic to a subdomain
Hi, I have a website with a client access on a subdomain. I want to exclude the traffic to that subdomain because it messes up my conversion goal for the main site. Per example, 2 out of 10 visitors are existing clients that want to access to my SaaS product. The 8 other are potential clients. I want to exclude the 2 clients from my stats so I could have the good conversion percentage for my free trial for the other 8 potential clients. Thanks in advance for your help!

Exact Match in Google Search (Not Adwords)
I was going throught the list of keywords that have sent traffic to my site over the last 7 years and cam across one "A516 grade 70" that had hundreds of variants. Now in a lot of cases search volumes were different as were SERPS. We've tested a few variants with reworked pages (70% similar to original but optimised for variant keyword) and see good SERPS and traffic results. Theres obviously some diminishing returns here for us but the interesting question is when to these variants become an exact match and when not? In some cases the variants are unique because of the spacig, periods and hyphens used. there isn't a clear correlation with exact matc though. Insight appreciated. (Sorry for spelling errors. Form doesn't play nicely with iPad)

Implications of Google discontinuing Website Optimizer
Hi Guys, As most of you probably know, Google is discontinuing Website Optimizer and introducing Experiments within Google Analytics. However, doesn't this mean that now, every site you want to run an experiment for has to be using Google Analytics? This is possibly one of the motivations for them making the change I guess? I also find it inconvenient that every 'experiment' now has to be based on improving a pre-defined goal in Google Analytics. This means that for a lot of situations we'll be creating goals just for the experiment and the clients actual goal conversions will appear quite inflated. I guess we'll just have to filter the new 'goals' out from the actual goals.
