Change in Google local ranking
-
So we have a WA construction client that we're working on doing some local SEO stuff. This month all the keywords that we're tracking but one is on the first page. It's easy to say "yay, we're so damn good at what we do", but it seems like there must have been a shift in the way google is ranking local results. Anyone else experiencing this??

Yes, in the great world of marketing we all know that a negative experience gets amplified far more often and to a greater extent than positive ones. I guess we'll take this one as a win and see how the rankings hold. Thanks for your responses!

Hi SoleGraphics,
Thanks for the additional detail. I have not come across any reports of a massive ranking jump being a general thing. On the other hand, people are probably much more likely to report a loss instead of gain, right? Sounds to me like you are deserving of a pat on the back. Well done!

We took on a small construction client and have been building up their site slowly for the past 6 months, doing no manual link building. We did however do a comprehensive clean up of their local SEO listing stuff, and best practices on site markup as well as adding content.
This month we noticed a huge jump in SERPs, page one to be exact and all within the top 5 for 30 high value KW/phrases. They dominate their market which is awesome, however we're trying to see if its something others are experienceing as well. Is Google playng catch up in the local markets? Or did we just do a kick ass job and now we can pat ourselves on the back?

Hi Solegraphics,
Did you have more details to provide about what you're experiencing? It doesn't sound like you've experienced any type of ranking failure, but are more concerned about some change on Google's part. If that's correct, what change do you suspect? What are you seeing that causes you to think something has changed? The more details you can provide, the better the answers you will receive from the community.

I did read an article today about a different Panda algorithm coming out this month that has skewed some search results. It could be related... http://www.hmtweb.com/marketing-blog/google-algorithm-updates-february-2014/

Google My Business search results for multiple listings
I am wondering how people set up their Google My Business listings to appear in the search results similar to this business, Hulme Orthodontics. I attached an image below that'll give more details. I am working with a client that has two locations similar in distance to Hulme Orthodontics, and I have tried everything and have come up with no answers as to how I can properly get Google to format the search results in this way. I assume that there is no actual way to manage this and that Google decides this on their own. However, if anyone has any insight regarding this manner, that would be much appreciated! Thank you for your help! UsEr3rK

Has Google Local search algorithm changed in the last 6 months?
My organic search results have increased, but I noticed that my Google local search results have dropped drastically. I haven't changed anything on the local side. I consistently get reviews. In my industry, I have more reviews (all 5 star) than anyone else. It actually shows weird results, like competitors that have no reviews and don't even have all of their information filled out. It is even showing competitors that are out of business. I have a lot of citations with the same NAP. I use Moz local for this purpose as well. So, I am wondering if the algorithm has changed and if I need to update my profile to match it. Thank you in advance!

Are there any services like Moz Local for Canada?
Was wondering if there would be a way to simplify getting NAP data out there and consistent for a business in Canada like we have here in the US with Moz Local? If not, are there specific sites besides Yellow Pages Group and the government site (ic.gc.ca) to submit their information? I'm sure Yelp, Facebook, Google, Bing, Yahoo, and all the usuals...but where else?

Looking to update my business address where possible because I have moved offices. I know that Google uses citations from multiple parties to impact on the Google Places results. Trouble is when address details are updated on hese third party sites I notice that Google doesn't often recache the page and get the new address. What method(s) can I use to resolve this issue? Google My Business listing - listed at CLOSED (how do I open)
Good afternoon Mozzers, I hope you can help me. I have a business listing, which is listed as being "PERMANENTLY CLOSED". In fact the business is OPEN it has just changed business name. I have ownership of the listing. I have "reported an issue" to Google and asked them to list as open, however how long will this take? Is there anything I can do to fast track this and limit the business impact? Any help welcomed, Ben

Google+ Business Listings: Hours Displayed Incorrectly
Hi, When I do a search for our brand + location name (basically making sure we at least appear for that) the hours displayed are incorrect except when I log into our account to edit the hours they are right. Ex: Google SERP displays hours 8am - 11pm but within business listing account hours entered are 8pm - 10pm. Has anyone come across this and why would it be? Is it a case of other citations showing the incorrect hours? Thanks for your help WMCA
