Lost positions, how to get them back?
-
Ok, like 1 year ago my site was doing good in google search engine. But I decided to change CMS and design of the site. Did some mistakes like, changed site links structure (when I notice it later I changed it back), then some of the pages were lost because I simply didn't need them on the new cms and there were no feature of keeping them.
Site has a lot of backlinks and was strong in rankings. It's been almost a year or maybe already a year and I can't get even to top100 for those keywords... But I was in (top10-20)
Site is still getting links, ranking well on yahoo and baidu, but google, just won't let my main keywords to come back. I rank for some that doesn't make sense to me and I even wasn't working on them.

To restore those old urls is not possible. (~400 of them). I've removed them (via google webmasters), but I still see them as errors in google webmaster tools (but they are decreasing slowly).

Ryan is spot on, without specific examples, it is difficult to tell you how to regain the lost ground. Some pointers:
1. Restore all the old webpages if possible.
2. Do Not 301 redirect old URLs
3. If the site is in a sub-folder, bring it back to root (happens a lot with Drupal if your developer is not careful)
4. Build links to the internal pages and not just the home page.
5. Look into Google Webmaster Account, specially how Google sees the site as a crawler and the "Settings".
Cheers.

It's not about how can I improve, it's about how to get back to where it was.
I am trying to assist you and respond to your question. From what I am seeing, it is EXACTLY that you are trying to improve.
The fact you ranked well for the same site isn't relevant one year later. Search engine results are extremely dynamic. Over the past year some of your competitors disappeared, other new ones have appeared, numerous algorithmic changes have been made, your CMS changed and possibly more things such as your content has changed as well.
There is no magic bullet to getting your ranking back to where it was a year ago.
-
Ryan is right, if you want a specific answer, you'll need to provide specific examples.

Well I explained You what was the cause of this happening.
I've explained what I did to make this fixed, but didn't help.
It's not about how can I improve, it's about how to get back to where it was.

Without specific examples your Q&A is just a general "how can I improve my ranking" post. Can you share an example of a page that you feel should rank well, along with the keywords you are trying to rank for so we can take a look?

Zero Position and bolded words
Hi, I was wondering if in the featured snippets as well as in the regular snippets the words that are bolded are what google considers being part of the knowledge graph for that request. For example if you type "italy tour" see the featured snippet and the bolded words, why are those bolded ?

In our reports we get alt tag errors for our banner images. We are unable to add alt tags to the banner images as they live inside CSS. We can add a title tag on the div title for the banner. Does that help with SEO and accessibility?

Analyzing ZAPPOS.com - how do they get away with it?
Hi All, The fun thing about our industry is that unlike poker - most cards are open. While trying to learn what the big guys are doing I chose to focus on www.Zappos.com - one of the largest sports wear (especially shoes). I looked how they categories, interlink and on their product pages. I have a question about duplication in an age where it is SO important.

If you look in their running sneakers category you'd see that they show the same item (in different color) as two separate items - how are these pages no considered duplication? It gets even worse - If you look inside a shoe page (a product page) in the tab "About the Brand" you'd learn that all shoes from Nike (just an example) the about the brand is exactly the same. This is about 90% of the page for hundreds of Nike shoes pages - and goes the same for all other brands. How come they are ranked so high and not penalized in the era of Panda?
Is it as always - big brands get away with anything and everything? Here are two example shoe pages:

Getting a Sitemap for a Subdomain into Webmaster Tools
We have a subdomain that is a Wordpress blog, and it takes days, sometimes weeks for most posts to be indexed. We are using the Yoast plugin for SEO, which creates the sitemap.xml file. The problem is that the sitemap.xml file is located at blog.gallerydirect.com/sitemap.xml, and Webmaster Tools will only allow the insertion of the sitemap as a directory under the gallerydirect.com account. Right now, we have the sitemap listed in the robots.txt file, but I really don't know if Google is finding and parsing the sitemap. As far as I can tell, I have three options, and I'd like to get thoughts on which of the three options is the best choice (that is, unless there's an option I haven't thought of): 1. Create a separate Webmaster Tools account for the blog 2. Copy the blog's sitemap.xml file from blog.gallerydirect.com/sitemap.xml to the main web server and list it as something like gallerydirect.com/blogsitemap.xml, then notify Webmaster Tools of the new sitemap on the galllerydirect.com account 3. Do an .htaccess redirect on the blog server, such as RewriteRule ^sitemap.xml http://gallerydirect.com/blogsitemap_index.xml Then notify Webmaster Tools of the new blog sitemap in the gallerydirect.com account. Suggestions on what would be the best approach to be sure that Google is finding and indexing the blog ASAP?

Can i get banned for my content?
Last night all our indexed pages are gone from google. Completely deindexed - banned. Links could not cause it, all of them are related, anchors diversified and spam is never used. Content is the same like our other website has, just some small changes. First stronger website is working as usual. So can it be that duplicate content caused a complete ban? (Website is 6 months old. Content has never been properly indexed, due to same reasons i think. Last week we made changes, ant it started to get indexed quite well until tonight..)

If I had an issue with a friendly URL module and I lost all my rankings. Will they return now that issue is resolved next time I'm crawled by google?
I have 'magic seo urls' installed on my zencart site. Except for some reason no one can explain why or how the files were disabled. So my static links went back to dynamic (index.php?**********) etc. The issue was resolved with the module except in that time google must have crawled my site and I lost all my rankings. I'm nowher to be found in the top 50. Did this really cause such an extravagant SEO issue as my web developers told me? Can I expect my rankings to return next time my site is crawled by google?

Do sites with a small number of content pages get penalized by Google?
If my site has just five content pages, instead of 25 or 50, then will it get penalized by Google for a given moderately competitive keyword?
