Duplicate Content - What can be duplicate in two different product pages.
-
I am having a hard time understanding how my 3 different product pages are being shown up as Duplicate Content in s crawl.
Some of my 21 different pages are being shown as duplicate content. Here are 3 of those:
1. http://champu.in/korn-rock-band-mens-round-neck-t-shirt-india
2. http://champu.in/stop-the-burning-mens-round-neck-t-shirt-india
3. http://champu.in/funny-t-shirts/absolut-punjabi-red-men-s-round-neck-t-shirt
Can someone help me with this. Thanks in advance

I looked at SEO-browser, and saw the same result. We have done a lot of ecom sites over the years, and it's always wise to fill in any space you have in the cart system with product info that sets the pages apart from one another.
We put together a page a while back, that includes a similar page checker. This lets you see on a percentage scale how "similar" pages are to one another, and explains the definition of what "duplicate content" really is, and how it can hurt your site.

Tom: This is extremely helpful and completely makes sense.
We are now on this to resolve the same issue. Thanks

Hey there
I like to look at these issues in the eyes of the Googlebot. There is a tool called SEO Browser that lets you see what your webpage looks like to the search engine crawlers.
Here is your first link in that tool
As you can see, the vast majority of the web pages are identical to each other, causing this duplication issue. Yes, they are different products, but what Google sees are two pages with very similar text, coding etc.
To counter this, a lot of people recommend adding unique elements to your product pages. Try to include 200+ words of content that is unique and talks about the products. It could be a product review, a background on the product, instructions on how it use it if applicable and so on. For your example, you might want to write a little bit about the history of Korn the band for your first page.
Essentially, you need to add more unique content that Google/Bing can see on your page in order to avoid any duplication issues.
I hope this helps.

Combining products - edit existing product page or 301 redirect to new page?
We want to combine existing products - e.g. 'hand lotion' and 'body lotion' will become 'hand & body lotion'. As such, we'll need to combine the two product pages into one. What would be the best route to take in terms of SEO to do this? My initial reaction is to create a new product page and then 301 or 302 redirect the old products to the new product page depending on if the change is permanent or temporary. Would you agree? Or am I missing something?

Duplicate Content and Other Issues from Blog Tags and Categories
I have recently taken over the maintenance/redesign of our website and after setting up Moz I see many errors:

Duplicate content
Missing descriptions
Duplicate titles
etc. All are related to blog categories and tags. My questions are: are these errors hurting us? Should I simply remove tags/categories from the sitemaps or bite the bullet and create content for every single category page? Our site is https://financiallysimple.com/ and we are using Yoast plugin in Wordpress (if that helps)2 -
Pages with near duplicate content
Hi Mozzers, I need your opinion on the following. Imagine that we have a product X (brand Sony for example), so if we sell parts for different models of items of this product X, we then have numerous product pages with model number. Sony camera parts for Sony Camera XYZ parts for Sony Camera XY etc. So the thing is that these pages are very very similar, like 90% duplicate and they do duplicate pages for Panasonic, Canon let's say with small tweaks in content. I know that those are duplicates and I would experiment removing a category for one brand only (least seached for), but at the same time I cannot remove for the rest as they convert a lot, being close to the search query of the customer (customer looks for parts for Sony XYZ, lands on the page and buys, insteading of staying on a page for Sony parts where should additionally browse for model number). What would you advise to make as unique as possible these pages, I am thinking about: change page titles. meta descriptions tweak the content as much as I can (very difficult, there is nothing fancy or different in those :(() i will start with top top pages that really drive traffic first and see how it goes. I will remove least visited pages and prominently put the model number in Sony parts page to see how it goes in terms of organic and most importantly conversions Any other ideas? I am really concerned about dupes and a penalty, but I try to think of solutions in order not to kill conversions at this point. Have a lovely Monday

Duplicate Content, Same Company?
Hello Moz Community, I am doing work for a company and they have multiple locations. For example, examplenewyork.com, examplesanfrancisco.com, etc. They also have the same content on certain pages within each website. For example, examplenewyork.com/page-a has the same content as examplesanfrancisco.com/page-a Does this duplicate content negatively impact us? Or could we rank for each page within each location parameter (for example, people in new york search page-a would see our web page and people in san fran search page-a would see our web page)? I hope this is clear. Thanks, Cole

Tags creating duplicated content issue?
Hello i believe a lot of us use tags in our blogs as a way to categorize content and make it easy searchable but this usually (at lease in my case) cause duplicate content creation. For example, if one article has 2 tags like "SEO" & "Marketing", then this article will be visible and listed in 2 urls inside the blog like this domain.com/blog/seo and domain.com/blog/marketing In case of a blog with 300+ posts and dozens of different tags this is creating a huge issue. My question is 1. Is this really bad? 2. If yes how to fix it without removing tags?

Duplicate content - what to do?
Hi, We have a whole lot of articles on our site. In total 5232 actually. The web crawler tells me that in the articles we have a lot of duplicate content. Which is sort of nonsense, since each article is unique. Ah, some might have some common paragraphs because they are recurring news about a weekly competition. But, an example: http://www.betxpert.com/artikler/bookmakere/brandvarme-ailton-snupper-topscorerprisen AND http://www.betxpert.com/artikler/bookmakere/opdaterede-odds-pa-sportschef-situationen-pa-vestegnen These are "duplicate content", however the two article texts are not the same. The menu, and the widgets are all the same, but highly relevant to the article. So what should I do? How can i rid myself of these errors? -Rasmus
