How can a Page indexed without crawled?
-
Hey moz fans,
In the google getting started guide it says**"
Note: **Pages may be indexed despite never having been crawled: the two processes are independent of each other. If enough information is available about a page, and the page is deemed relevant to users, search engine algorithms may decide to include it in the search results despite never having had access to the content directly. That said, there are simple mechanisms such as robots meta tags to make sure that pages are not indexed.
"How can it happen, I dont really get the point.
Thank you -

Ov man, you always come tome with great ideas
I never thought about that .
Thank you very much stay rock! -
Yes, of course my friend, Google has to crawl the page to see the page-level meta robots tag but till date I have not seen any page in Google's index that has been blocked using the robots.txt file and page-level meta robots tag. Password protecting your .htaccess file would be an overkill if you just want Google not to index a page. If you want Google to remove any particular page from its index, you can get it done from webmaster tools account. Here you go for more: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
Good Luck to you my friend.

Thank you guyz,
Devanur You've got the point let me correct you at one point.
You can't say google that remove my index just using meta robots tag, because It can't read the meta tag till it crawl.
So only solution looks like .htaccess password protect.
Anyway thanks for your efforts. -
I'm also thinking site maps, but I'm not really sure if they trust them that much to list links in it that they haven't crawled.

Hi friend,
If a page has been blocked using Robots.txt file, then Google will not crawl and index the page from within the website but what if a reference of that page is found on a third-party website? In cases like this, link discovery will happen and the page will be indexed without a Description snippet and such pages will have the following text in the place of a description in the search results pages:
"A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt – learn more"
So inorder to completely stop Google from crawling and indexing a page, you should should block the page by implementing, page-level meta robots tag.
Here you go for more: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/156449?hl=en
Please feel free to post back if you have any other queries in this regards.
Best regards,
Devanur Rafi

How can I optimise my key pages for new (related) key phrases as they arise, without compromising the original optimised keywords?
I have an important product page that I've fully optimised for a couple of specific key phrases. There are some other really good (related/similar) key phrases it's starting to rank on the first page for which I'd like to increase ranking on further. How can I optimise/improve ranking for these without compromising ranking for other keywords?

Over 30,000 pages but only 100 get traffic... can I kill the others?
I have a website with over 30,000 pages. But only around 100 are getting traffic from Google/being used by the company. How safe is it for me to kill the other pages? Usually I'd do rel canonical or 301's to scrap as much link juice as I can from them, but at 30,000 we just don't have any place to 301 the pages that makes sense and rel canonical to irrelevant pages seems... wrong? So my hope was to just kill the pages, reuse their content when needed, but pretty much start fresh. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks,

Google Search Console - Indexed Pages
I am performing a site audit and looking at the "Index Status Report" in GSC. This shows a total of 17 URLs have been indexed. However when I look at the Sitemap report in GSC it shows 9,000 pages indexed. Also, when I perform a site: search on Google I get 24,000 results. Can anyone help me to explain these anomalies?

Date of page first indexed or age of a page?
Hi does anyone know any ways, tools to find when a page was first indexed/cached by Google? I remember a while back, around 2009 i had a firefox plugin which could check this, and gave you a exact date. Maybe this has changed since. I don't remember the plugin. Or any recommendations on finding the age of a page (not domain) for a website? This is for competitor research not my own website. Cheers, Paul

Links from non-indexed pages
Whilst looking for link opportunities, I have noticed that the website has a few profiles from suppliers or accredited organisations. However, a search form is required to access these pages and when I type cache:"webpage.com" the page is showing up as non-indexed. These are good websites, not spammy directory sites, but is it worth trying to get Google to index the pages? If so, what is the best method to use?

404 with a Javascript Redirect to the index page...
I have a client that is wanting me to issue a 404 on her links that are no longer valid to a custom 404, pause for 10 seconds, then rediirect to the root page (or whatever other redirect logic she wants)...to me it seems trying to game googlebot this way is a "bad idea" Can anyone confirm/deny or offer up a better suggestion?

To land page or not to land page
Hey all, I wish to increase my sites rankings on a variety of keywords within sub categories but I'm unsure where to be spending the time in SEO. Here's an example of the website page structure: General Home Page > Sub Category 1 Home Page
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DPSSeomonkey
> Searching / Results pages
- Sub Category 1
- Sub Category 2
- Sub Category 3
- Sub Category 4 > Sub Category 2 Home Page
> Searching / Results pages
- Sub Category 1
- Sub Category 2
- Sub Category 3
- Sub Category 4 We've newly introduced the Sub Category Home Pages and I was wondering if SEO is best performed on these pages or should landing pages be built, one for each of the 4 sub categories in each section. Those landing pages would have links to the "Searching / Results pages" for that sub category. Thanks!0 -
