Backlink Query. Unranked pages of High Ranking sites.
-
Hi,
So I was just wondering if someone with more knowledge than myself can answer this question for me.
I have a site - currently sat on page 2 of google. On-site optimisation is done, however I am struggling to get backlinks that are from highranking pages.
I am new to SEO so need a hand.
My understanding of backlinks is that the higher the PR of the site that links to your 'money' site, the better that link is, and that these links are very hard to come by. (something that I am finding).
Many times I have found sites that have a high rank and offer for a free listing, only for me to fill in details and get listed on a sub-page that has no ranking whatsoever.
So my question is, are these kind of links worth the effort? Do they actually have any effect on rankings?
And generally would anyone have any tips on the best sites to get links?
Thanks

You're welcome. But there is a lot that was left out. It's just the nature of the beast.
Link building/acquisition/earning is a broad and deep topic. There are millions of ways to go about it. Some tactics will get you in trouble. Some tactics may result in public ridicule. So be careful and read up.
If a link looks shady, it probably is. The best links drive real traffic. Search operators are your friends.

Thanks very much.
Great bit of advice. Much appreciated.

I can expand a little bit upon what Silkstream has said.
If there are trade associations relevant to your site, make those a first priority. They tend to be easier if you're in with the crowd. Plus, your competitors are likely to link there. It's a way of getting an indirect link from your competitor. Though you can apply this to other situations. Use your imagination, brochacho.
A lot of webmasters make the mistake of thinking that no one is interested in them. That is untrue. There's an audience for belly button lint.
Find your audience. Learn everything about your audience. Work it.
That approach is far better than worrying about PR. Worrying about the PR of a site gets you into bad territory. That's when you start considering links from easylinkseodirectory4ulol.com. That would be a bad place to be in general, and much more a bad place to start.
Use the following search operator:
related:google.comReplace google.com with your site, a competitor, or a site that didn't respond to your outreach. Plenty of fish in the sea. Just don't suck at outreach. Be real, be authentic - don't mention a link upfront, at all.
That shouldn't be your goal anyway. Your goal should be exposure through good things that you give others. -
Thanks for the response.
However I'm not talking about a PR2 site, that would be an incredible link for me right now!
I'm meaning a page that has no rank. What's the value of these?
Thanks
-
In the old days it was all about the PR of the linking site. But now I'd say, stop worrying about PR of the sites that you are seeking links from, and concern yourself more with relevance.
If I have the choice to get a link on a PR6 site that is in another industry or a PR2 site that is in the same, then I'd go for the second every day of the week.

You probably know what I mean, the report in Google Webmaster Tools > Sitemaps. So how do I locate the pages that are NOT indexed? Thanks, Ben

We noticed that goods offered in our email newsletters used to disappeared from first google search results page!?
We noticed that goods offered in our email newsletters used to disappeared from fisrt google search results page. Goods where in top 5 positions or even higher, but after email newsletters we didn't find them even in top 100. We suspect service provider of email sending is in blacklist? Could it be reason? If yes, how could we check that?

If I have a Google+ Business page, do I need a Google Places page as well?
It seems like the two are redundant? Any official word on this? I'm fairly OCD about things being tidy and I dont want to split my reviews / shares / etc between two profiles. Are they not the same thing? I searched for my company, both my plus business page and my places page came up. I attached a SS of the situation. placesvplus.png

Penguin 2.0 Update - Just Hit - Google Messes up again, can anyone on SEOMOZ please tell me why or how some of these websites are ranking?
I am getting a bit tired now writing all of this so please excuse grammar and spelling mistakes, I wanted to post this up quickly tonight so I could possibly get some feedback by morning. So I feel I figured out some of the new update that just hit and I am sure the update will continue to keep coming and rankings will most likely change for a while, but I do have a few questions in the mean time if they stay. Please look below, why would some of those sites be ranking? Some sites utilize no onpage SEO, some no backlinks, one of the sites is a single page site and every page is a broken link even the contact us page and it's rank 1..... I am not 100% sure that Google got this one right. I see many instances below where other sites are much higher quality and have more authority. It's as if Google took terrible sites and said here is a site for you, now deal with it and I hope it works out at the top. I do see several sites that belong on the first page, but I see others that are very questionable. This is how the following is written below. Before the url is the anchor text density % for the site. This indicates the percentage of the amount of times the anchor text was backlined versus other anchor texts they used. Issues with the sites. Most of these sites don't utilize onpage SEO and it's clearly not a factor for onpage density purposes, there is a site with 37% keyword density on it. Some sites even have broken links. Please note: I already know that there is a lot of data that is analyzed to determine rankings more than this, but PA/DA is suppose to be a major factor according to everyone that believes in SEOMOZ.org. So I am taking in account for many of those factors being calculated due to this. These are just some random keywords I picked, because I know you need to analyze other SEO firms after and update to figure out what lasted and what didn't. All of my sites lasted due to ethical tactics, but I had some rankings move down and others go up, very odd. The onpage SEO is sloppy and the writing looks forced. Why is this even ranking? The site also looks low quality. The density is higher than SEOMOZ even and it has less words. Sudden drop in keyword ranking
Since last Friday (09/28/12) all of my keyword ranking is gone. I checked the webmaster and found, among the others, one error "access denied" "1 error found" "server requires login or is blocking googlebot" Im trying to see if this thing has to do with sudden drop of ranking? I have other sites on the webmaster and none of them is showing this type of error. Help will be appreciated. When I check individual urls they are there (indexed).

Help ranking for a keyword
So I found a keyword that is labeled as "Low Competive" on Google Adwords. About a week and a half ago I optimized the page using the SEOMOZ On-Page optimization tool. It says that I am 100% with everything. My website is new but it has been around for about a year. I haven't gotten into linking and the more in depth SEO. After doing some searches though I noticed a lot of other new website that are atleast ranking in the top 50 for certain keywords, so I figured I could get my page to rank atleast in the top 1000 for this "Low Competitive" keyword. Could someone take a look and see if maybe I over optimized it or did something that would make this keyword not rank even in the top 1000 on google? Any advise is appreciated. I am obviously very new to SEO, but I am someone that likes to do and learn everything for myself. Thanks in advance! The keyword is: Nitro Monster Truck The web page is: http://www.rcnitroshop.com/nitro-monster-truck
