Has Google changed how it displays metatitles for business listings?
-
Our company now does not display the meta title for company specific searches for certain stores, but not all of them (yet). Is this something new and are there any potential SEO ramifications or benefits?
-
If you want google to pick up the meta title you want you need to tweak your on-page optimization, as per my previous answer.
If you check both homepages, toyota and honda, with some keyword densitiy analyzer tools you will see differences, make changes till you convince google to accept your meta title.
One difference in those pages is pretty obvious once you scan it with a keyword density analyzer.

I don't think it's all that odd. In fact I think google is doing a good job at trying to match what the user is looking for.
If I search for "leith honda" I am much probably looking for someone named leith related to “honda”, and if you look at the source html of the serp result for your business you will see you have put "leith honda" in a lot of places, image alt, href titles, page body... Google guess that “leith honda” is a better title, when compared to the meta-title of that page, sounds appropriate.
On the other hand when searching for “honda dealer in raleigh” the meta-title, which does contain the three keyword honda+dealer+raleigh sounds just right for what the user may be searching with that query.
-
Google takes your meta-title as a mere suggestion, it usually show the proposed meta-title as “the” title in SERP but you have no guarantee.
If google finds your title is too short, over-used, poorly written, stuffed with keywords, or inadequate for the page content / searched query will sometimes create its own title.
-
I'm not able to replicate what you are saying. Google is showing the correct titles for me.
Any chance you upload a screenshot?
-
Yeah - when comparing Leith Honda versus Leith Toyota (same web providers), the SERP shows Toyota's meta title but for Honda just says 'Leith Honda'. The URLs are www.leithhonda.com and www.leithtoyota.com. When you do a Google search for Honda Dealer in Raleigh the meta title that shows in the SERP is what we have on the website. Very odd...
-
It definitely sounds like something on your site. Can you share the URL or an example of a page where you're seeing this in the SERP in order to better help you? Thanks!
-
We have set meta titles for all of our pages, but the result on the SERP for our business name does not show what we have in the meta title. It just shows the name of our business. I have not seen this before and wonder if this is a change to Google's algorithm and how (if at all) it impacts us...
-
I don't know if I specifically understand what you are asking. Google hasn't changed the way it uses meta titles. If you have not specifically designated the meta title for your pages, your platform might pull information from the page to populate the title tag. Without seeing the actual page I can't be more specific than that.

Remove poor performing pages, or leave for google?
Hi - we have a few old pages on our site which were created for SEO purposes a long time ago. They are pretty poor pages and we are rewriting them. However some are no longer relevant. We score "F" on those pages and I imagine google won't like them. Should we delete the page and redirect nicely to the home page, or leave the page there, but remove it from our site? What is best practice for removing old content? Many thanks

Small Business website help please. All help is appreciated and thank you in advance.
Hello I am working on my families website, it is a Colorado barn construction site. I am new here, so any and all help is appreciated. I have already gotten some excellent tips for general seo, but now trying to pinpoint in on a target. I am reading as much as I can everyday. My questions are: Keywords... Ok so when I type in keywords and the results come up, even with an exact match, I am 12 pages back. So what influences the keyword rankings? Is it best to add in like say a service into a paragraph? Like I have been using Ubersuggest or however its spelled, and so would you take keyword phrases and then try to naturally add them to paragraphs? Is this how rankings are created? Thus your site being found? I have major competition that does not even have the keywords I type in, found on there site, and they still rank #1. So I feel that it must lead into my next question DA. Domain Authority: I assume domain authority comes into play. The leading company in my world has a 50 and I have a 15. I am trying to raise this, and using the Moz tools I see my competitor has like 400 edu links. So in some ways it seems like wow get as many edu links as possible. But now it seems like this is not good? Like everyone is afraid to get links that may be considered spam in nature. That being said, would you still go after edu links? Media: So kind of an odd question, but does adding a video to a home page help bounce rates? Like maybe if they sit and watch a two minute video that is interesting, then they may check out the rest of the site? Or for the sake of load times, do you keep the homepage as fast as possible? Thank you for any tips. Also if you view my site, please give me any negative feedback as you can to help me improve. Thank you Chris

Does my website have a bad rank in google because EMD or lack content ?
Hello, I'm a beginner I just started my website xxx a few days ago. I submitted my url to several good quality directories (about 20, the last 3 days), I tried to write different descriptions for each directory. I have a very bad rank on google results (28+) for keywords "psychologue montluçon" I don't know if it's because of : lack of content, EMD, lack of backlinks (I submitted my website to directories, but its seems it takes a lot of time for updates). Sorry for bad english, if you can help, thank you !

SEO research via Google Adwords
I've read several times of this technique for determining if a particular keyword phrase is worth the effort of optimizing for in organic search. In Adwords create an Ad Group with a single exact match keyword phrase and let it run in Adwords until you have enough clicks to measure valid results (I've often heard 200-300 clicks). If you are unable to convert the search term via paid search, the theory goes, it's probably not worth the effort to rank top 3 for that phrase and you should put your efforts elsewhere. Do any of you use this strategy? If so, have you found the results to be pretty consistently accurate? Thanks, Mark

Is there a pro tool or google service that I can use to see which sites rank for certain terms? Without having to first identify the url's?
For example I want to see the top 20 sites in order of ranking for top keywords in my industry. Without having to know in advance the url's.

Google Webmaster Keyword Significance.
In my google webmaster tools the most significant keyword google attaches to my site is word 'VAT' as in, Value Added Tax. Followed by Basket. I can see why this is, as the word VAT and Basket is on every product page, but it really is not a keyword I want to target. Does this have any negative effect on other keywords I am targeting? What should I do about this? Here is the site: https://www.loveelectronics.co.uk
