Duplicate pages in language versions, noindex in sitemap and canonical URLs in sitemap?
-
Hi SEO experts!
We are currently in the midst of reducing our amount of duplicate titles in order to optimize our SEO efforts. A lot of the "duplicate titles" come from having several language versions of our site.
Therefore, I am wondering:
1. If we start using "" to make Google (and others) aware of alternative language versions of a given site/URL, how big a problem will "duplicate titles" then be across our domains/site versions?
2. Is it a problem that we in our sitemap include (many) URL's to pages that are marked with noindex?
3. Are there any problems with having a sitemap that includes pages that includes canonical URL's to other pages?
Thanks in advance!

If you have translations, that is content that is exactly the same, just translated, HREFLANG is highly recommended for Google. Bing uses another tag though. However, your titles should be different give that they are in different languages. **2. Is it a problem that we in our sitemap include (many) URL's to pages that are marked with noindex? **
I wouldn't put pages in the sitemap that have a noindex. It won't hurt you by any means, just seems a waste of time.
**3. Are there any problems with having a sitemap that includes pages that includes canonical URL's to other pages? **
It's not recommended but it's also not a problem. The only issue comes in having pages that redirect or break all together.

Page content is not very similar but topic is same: Will Google considers the rel canonical tags?
Hi Moz community, We have multiple pages from our own different sub-domains for same topics. These pages even rank in SERP for related keywords. Now we are planning to show only one of the pages in SERP. We cannot redirect unfortunately. We are planning to use rel canonical tags. But the page content is not same, only 20% is similar and 80% is different but the context is same. If we use rel canonicals, does Google accepts this? If not what should I do? Making header tags similar works? How Google responds if content is not matching? Just ignore or any negative score? Thanks

Google Direct Answers Box - available in other languages aside from English?
Hi guys, Last year I wrote a post for the YouMoz blog (https://mza.seotoolninja.com/ugc/google-s-direct-answers-how-to-keep-visitors-coming-to-your-site) about Google's Direct Answers box. Needless to say, I focused purely on English language queries but I'm curious to know if anyone has seen the box appear for queries in other languages. If you've seen this happening and could provide some examples, then please let me know! Thanks in advance! Daniel

Impact of recent On Page Optimisation changes had negative impact !
Hi I recently updated some page titles, H1 tags & on page content which overall has seen search results slip down following the first site crawl by google I assume. My question is, should I try to get back the rankings and test and change one thing at a time to see the impact right now or should i wait for a period of time for it to settle down once goggle has crawled the site a few times or will the subsequent crawls have no impact? Thanks Ash

Quickest way to deindex a large number of pages
Our site was recently hacked by spammers posting fake content and bringing down our servers, etc. After a few months, we finally figured out what was going on and fixed the issue. However, it turns out that Google has indexed 26K+ spammy pages and we've lost page rank and search engine rankings as a result. What is the best and fastest way to get these pages out of Google's index?

Are xml sitemaps a thing of the past?
We had an internal debate about the importance of having a sitemap.xml on your website. Basically, there is Google documentation that indicates a sitemap.xml is due diligence: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156184 And other authoritative forums, blogposts, etc. which indicate that sitemap creation and maintenance is a waste of your time, e.g. http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/4803/the-sitemap-paradox/ A bigger question is: Are there cases in which not having a sitemap.xml actually became detrimental or risky? Thanks in advance!

Site name appended to page title in google search
Hi there, I have a strange problem concerning how the search results for my site appears in Google. The site is Texaspoker.dk and for some strange reason that name is appended at the end of the page title when I search for it in Google. The site name is not added to the page titles on the site. If I search in Google.dk (the relevant search engine for the country I am targeting) for "Unibet Fast Poker" I get the following page title displayed in the search results: Unibet Fast Poker starter i dag - få €10 og prøv ... - Texaspoker.dk If you visit the actual page you can see that there is no site name added to the page title: http://www.texaspoker.dk/unibet-fast-poker It looks like it is only being appended to the pages that contains rich snippets markup and not he forum threads where the rich snippets for some reason doesn't work. If I do a search for "Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events" the title appears as it should without the site name being added: Afstemning: Foretrukne TOPS Events Anybody have any experience regarding this or an idea to why this is happening? Maybe the rich snippets are automatically pulling the publisher name from my Google+ account... edited: It doesn't seem to have anything to do with rich snippets, if I search for "Billeder og stuff v.2" the site name is also appended and if I search for "bedste poker bonus" the site name is not.

Server Down for Few Hours went from Page 1 to Page 6?
We were on Page 1 - our server went down for about 4-6 hours and then we dropped to page 6. Would the server being down for this amount of time affect our position? Any advice would be much appreciated.
