301 redirect with Magento; still Page authority 0 after 6 weeks
-
Hi Mozzers!
In December '14 I have execute a 301 redirect in the 'old' page in the admin of my Magento store. Now I was surprised to see that the Page Authority is still 0 of the new page 6 weeks after the execution.
- should I have seen the update of the PA on the new page already after 6 weeks of time? If yes, then I assume that my Magento didn't execute this properly?
Old url: http://hippemamashop.nl/mama/boeken/fotoalbum.html
New page: you will be redirected to the new page after clicking the old page -
Using 301 is that standard way of proceeding if you need to change the structure of your site. If done properly, there is no impact on your rankings (always make sure to update your internal links - avoid 301's on internal links). As a rule of thumb, don't change your url's too often, because the redirects can get quite messy after a few years.
For the ranking question, I wouldn't know how long it takes, I mainly track traffic, not really page authority, so can't help you on that one.
Unrelated to your question, but could have an impact on your SEO: I was a bit surprised by your choice of Magento for a smaller shop. Magento is known for being quite hungry for resources, and normally requires a dedicated server to run on. I sometimes had difficulty accessing the pages.
When I did a speed check the final result was ok, but 'time to first byte' was quite long, which could indicate that your server is not really up to its task. Another strange finding was that a very large part of the content that is downloaded are javascriptfiles (65% of total weight of the page) and css files (20%) - you should try to regroup these files & minify them. Also try to tune your caching settings - a lot of static resources could be cached. Full details can be found here: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150204_1H_1A91/ - you should also check the Page Speed Insights tool from Google: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhippemamashop.nl%2F&tab=desktop.
On your productpages, some of the descriptions are quite short, and maybe not 100% optimised for search (and for your target audience). Additional info is not always correct 'Materiaal: Nee' (Lief sokjes). Try to find a unique tone of voice for your site - you are trying to attract young fashionable mothers - so you probably should adapt your descriptions to that target audience

Dirk

@DC1611 and Monica; thanks for your reply! In that case I should be patient to see the page authority increase (I didn't knew it will take that much time as I though the page authority will be updated instantly since it's a redirect that push the 'link juice').
-yes, the new page has been cached by Google
-unfortunately the page isn't getting traffic through Google organic yet.
For me the important thing to know is whether the redirect has been configured properly. If that's the case I think I should not have to worry at all and can leave it and checking it again after a few months? After how many months should I check it? And what about the Google ranking position; will that remain? (I am planning to implement a couple of 301 redirects as I have to, but if it will influence my rankings significantly I will doubt to proceed with the action)
Looking forward to your replies

Usually the page authority doesn't increase for a couple of months. You need time to let the search traffic work. Has the new page been cached by Google yet? Do you have a way to tell if the page is getting traffic on its own yet?
The page authority starts at 0 because it is a new page. The 301 redirect helps get new traffic to the page and carry over link juice, but it will still take time for the page authority to increase. Hang in there!

As far as I can see the redirect is correct - you can always check yourself using a tool like http://web-sniffer.net/ to check the headers that are returned when calling the page. Probably you just need to be patient regarding the PA.

Technical SEO | | Damian_Ed 0
Hi everyone, Recently I have faced a crawl issue with my media images on website. For example this page url https://intreface.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Horion-screen-side-2.png has 302 HTTP Status and the recommendation is to change it 301. I have read the article on temporary redirections here:
https://mza.bundledseo.com/learn/seo/redirection?_ga=2.45324708.1293586627.1702571936-916254120.1702571936
but its not written here how to redirect in my HTML 1 image url not the landing page.

I have messaged to MOZ Support but they recommended to go for the MOZ Community!
Screenshot 2023-12-15 at 11.06.02.png Could you assist me wit this issue please? I can reach HTTML of the necessary page and change what I need for permanent redirection but firstly I need to understand how to do that correctly.0 -
301 redirect after penalty to domain which currently 301 to the penalised domain
Hello all, As I have mentioned in another Q&A, one of our new clients got hit by manual penalty. I checked their link profile and there was a lot of black hat involved. Long story sort, I submitted a reconsiderationr equest which was not enough as it seems 99,9% of his links are bad links. We took the decision to move a newly launched web site from www.websitename.com to www.website-name.com with the latter being an old domain name with good authority and clean link profile. The problem is that at the moment the www.website-name.com is set to 301 redirect to www.websitename.com and what we want to do now is take the web site off www.websitename.com and launch (not 301 as we dont want to pass the penalty to the clean domain) it to www.website-name.com. What is the best practise for this particular case and are there any things i should pay attention to? I would appreciate your advise!

Why is the Page Authority of my product pages so low?
My domain authority is 35 (homepage Page Authority = 45) and my website has been up for years: www.rainchainsdirect.com Most random pages on my site (like this one) have a Page Authority of around 20. However, as a whole, the individual pages of my products rank exceptionally low. Like these: http://www.rainchainsdirect.com/products/copper-channel-link-rain-chain (Page Authority = 1) http://www.rainchainsdirect.com/collections/todays-deals/products/contempo-chain (Page Authority = 1) I was thinking that for whatever reason they have such low authority, that it may explain why these pages rank lower in google for specific searches using my exact product name (in other words, other sites that are piggybacking of my unique products are ranking higher for my product in a specific name search than the original product itself on my site) In any event, I'm trying to get some perspective on why these pages remain with the same non-existent Page Authority. Can anyone help to shed some light on why and what can be done about it? Thanks!

302 to 301 redirect confirmation
Hi guys, Fairly sure of the answer from what I've read so far, but I just wanted to doublecheck I have it right. Page A gets a significant amount of referring, followed traffic, and also ranks in Google. Page A uses a 302 redirect to Page B (on a completely different domain), which means that 0% of Page A's link juice is being passed on to Page B. If I were to change the 302 redirect to a 301 redirect, then the link juice passed on to Page A from the followed, referring traffic will be (mostly) passed on to Page B. Is that correct? Cheers, Jez

We have set up 301 redirects for pages from an old domain, but they aren't working and we are having duplicate content problems - Can you help?
We have several old domains. One is http://www.ccisound.com - Our "real" site is http://www.ccisolutions.com The 301 redirect from the old domain to the new domain works. However, the 301-redirects for interior pages, like: http://www.ccisolund.com/StoreFront/category/cd-duplicators do not work. This URL should redirect to http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/category/cd-duplicators but as you can see it does not. Our IT director supplied me with this code from the HT Access file in hopes that someone can help point us in the right direction and suggest how we might fix the problem: RewriteCond%{HTTP_HOST} ccisound.com$ [NC] RewriteRule^(.*)$ http://www.ccisolutions.com/$1 [R=301,L] Any ideas on why the 301 redirect isn't happening? Thanks all!

Is a 302 redirect the correct redirect from a root URL to a detail page?
Hi guys The widely followed SEO best practice is that 301 redirects should be used instead of 302 redirects when it is a permanent redirect that is required. Matt Cutts said last year that 302 redirects should "only" be used for temporary redirects. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-interview-googles-matt-cutts-on-redirects-trust-more For a site that I am looking at the SEO Moz Crawll Diagnostics tool lists as an issue that the URL / redirects to www.abc.com/Pages/default.aspx with a 302 redirect. On further searching I found that on a Google Support forum (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=276539078ba67f48&hl=en) that a Google Employee had said "For what it's worth, a 302 redirect is the correct redirect from a root URL to a detail page (such as from "/" to "/sites/bursa/"). This is one of the few situations where a 302 redirect is preferred over a 301 redirect." Can anyone confirm if it is the case that "a 302 redirect is the correct redirect from a root URL to a detail page"? And if so why as I haven't found an explanation. If it is the correct best practice then should redirects of this nature be removed from displaying as issues in the SEO Moz Crawll Diagnostics tool Thanks for your help
