How to export Wordpress comments ONLY to a new domain
-
Hi Guys,
We have a bit of situation here. We have a website (let's say it is www.oldsite.com) where we had more than 2000 posts. There arose a need whereby we had to move some 60-70 posts from this oldsite.com to another domain of ours (www.newsite.com). So, here is what we did:
- Move those 60-70 posts manually from oldsite.com to newsite.com
- Did a 301 redirect of each of those 60-70 posts from oldsite.com to newsite.com. Google has now started to rank the posts from the newsite.com for this. That's all good till now.
- Now, here comes the situation. We also want to move the comments from some of those posts of oldsite.com (some 10-12 posts out of those 60-70) to the respective posts of newsite.com.
How do we do that? Do note that we are pretty comfortable with databases and to some extent PHP. Please help.

Hey Shalin,
Assuming you have a large number of comments to deal with on those pages, the best option would probably be to delete those manual posts, then import the full 2000 posts using Wordpress's native import/export funtions, and then delete the posts you don't want. This process should only take 1-3 hours and is easier than your other options below.
It's possible to get into SQL and export just the comments table, but because you've manually created those new posts, you would have to manually rewrite all of the post ids that the comments are tied to, and delete all of the irrelevant comments after that.. Plus, the possibility of a small typo messing up the import is high.

Are provincial third-level domains bad for SEO?
My prospect's domain ends in ".on.ca" (Ontario, Canada). The structure of their site is companyname.on.ca (main page) and all other pages are sub-folders (companyname.on.ca/page-name-1 All pages are no more than two levels deep. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the provincial sub-domain (.on.ca) presents an SEO challenge?

Any risks involved in removing a sub-domain from search index or completely taking down? Ranking impact?
Hi all, One of our sub-domains has thousands of indexed pages but traffic is very less and irrelevant. There are links between this sub-domain to other sub domains of ours. We are planning to take this subdomain completely. What happens if so? Google responds for this with a ranking change? Thanks

Does anyone know how to find functions/codes/etc in WordPress?
Right now, I'm working on solving a relatively easy WP issue (easy, because someone told me what to do. Thanks iNetSeo). I have to replace: <span class="post_date"></span class="post_date"> and replace it with <span class="post_date date="" updated"=""></span class="post_date> But, I can't find the "_<span class="post_date">"</span class="post_date">_For a number of my WP problems, the hardest part is just located the code/function/markup I need to replace. Does anyone know where this might usually be stored on a website? Also, does anyone know if there's any tool that would allowed to just put "various function" in a search box, and wordpress take you to where it was on the backend of your site, so you could edit it? I included a screenshot of our editors, but I already opened them all, pasted the code in Ctrl-F to no avail, but maybe I missed something. Thanks for helping with my frustrating scavenger hunt! HELP! IE secure page display issue on new live site
For some reason IE 7, 8, & 9 do not display the following page: https://www.jwsuretybonds.com/protools.htm All they show is the Norton seal. It shows properly in all other browsers without issue (including IE 10+), but the earlier versions flash the page for a split second, then hides everything. Can someone shed some light on this? This is a new live site we just launched minutes ago and these browsers account for 12% of our overall traffic. UGH I hate you microsoft!!! Thanks all 🙂

Thoughts about Comment Luv?
What do you think about the Comment Luv pro plugin for your blog? My goal is this would help me get traffic and comments on my posts..... Make it easy to promote my own content.... the unlimited version is $97, I thought about purchasing this for my site and all my clients but wasn't sure if this was just one more tool that I spend money on and 6 months later I don't use it because I have learned about a better option (that is usually free). I am sure many of you can relate to doing that 🙂 Thank you very much for any suggestions!!! Have a superb week everybody! Matthew

Can SEO Moz perform a full site crawl and provide a report showing all URLs within an existing domain?
We are conducting a site redesign and need to get an idea of all pages that are out there on our domain (in some report fashion). This would help for discovery and cleanup as we re-work the site and move to a new CMS. Thanks
