Link building and directory links to a new site
-
I have three new sites all hosted on the same server in the same public html folder and each site is in a different folder inside the public html folder. These sites are a listing of live music venues in different cities in Texas. Should I link these sites together to increase page rank to each other and also put key search phrases in the anchor text and place these links in the text in the center of each page of each site to make the links more effective?
Also, because the sites are about a year old they don't have many inlinks yet. If i submit them to about 50 directories will Google not like this because there are way more directory links than natural links? I've been told that it is trouble to have more than about 50% directory links compared to natural links.
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Take care,

Ron,
When you are performing an activity like this for your website, ask yourself "how do readers benefit from my actions?". If you are struggling to find an answer, then you probably should consider trying another activity.
-
As Storwell suggested, natural links between your sites that help users find information are always a good thing. Google will recognize your sites are hosted together and you wont receive much, if any, actual benefit with respect to having your results rank higher.
-
Directory links are a poor use of time and effort. If you spend that same amount of time writing one great article, you will receive better results.
-
Figure out who the best past band was who played at one of your venues and write a great article about their visit. Include pictures, videos of their session at your place (if it's not a copyright violation), etc. Make the article something that all their fans would want to read. Readers should get the feeling "wow, I missed out on a great show! I wish I was there and I'll make it the next time they play there". Ideally that same band will be scheduled again and you can provide a link to a page that has their next appearance dates and info.
-
You need to generate content others WANT to read. Content that people want to tell their friends about and link to. The payoff for a fantastic article that is well promoted will be more quality links then the rest of your efforts.

Two things.
-
I would focus on nautral linking between your sites if you are going to link between them. If you happen to be talking about something in a post on one of the sites that actually relates to one of the other sites, or content you have written for the other site, then place a link there, because that is what someone would naturally do. Google rewards people for being people, not people who are trying to manipulate the search engines. But like you said these sites don't have much page rank to begin with, so you will not ever see much of a benefit from your cross linking, mostly it is a waste of time.
-
Yes and no, on the one hand, i don't think the directories will help you all that much, in terms of gaining rankings again you should be focusing on gaining natural good quality links from other sources with good page and trust rank. These directories will not help you achieve that. They might give you a small/marginal boost in rankings, but they will not be significant. Also do not be so afraid of being penalized by good. If it was so easy to get penalized a Black Hat SEO could very easily take down the rankings of a competators site. All that SEO would need to do is submit the site to directories, and boom google penalizes them, right? wrong!

I am looking for a software to keep track of the back links or link building
Hi Guys, I am very new hear. I just joined. I have a few websites that I need to manage. I am looking for a software that will allow me to manually add the links that I have been able to acquire. It would also be a bonus if it could search for the links to my site and to see if its still active. Because I have a freelancer working a few hours a week on link building and I need to keep track of the links. I am looking for something simple and good. Any suggestions? By the way, I used Raven Tools many years ago, and it had this feature. But since joining Moz, I don't want to be paying for 2 subscriptions. And I don't know if Raven still has this feature. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Ryan

Spam Link Building Discovered - What would you do?
Hi Mozers, After investigating our no 1 competitor we have discovered their 87k back links comparing to ours 1k. After dipper investigations we discovered that all the back links are gained by the websites created by themselves. So what they did is - they had purchased 10+ domains and created 10+ new websites that are identical as their original .com version. EVERY SINGLE LINK on these 'new' websites link to their .com version. The 'New' websites are not indexed. Literally each of us can do the same and gain thousands of back links, but isn't it violating google's policy? What are your thought on it? (What is the best practice to report the violation of google's policy to Google?) Best regards, Lana

Paid directory links
Just going through my competitors back links, and discovered a couple of directories who charge a small fee for a listing (£20) (one way link) or a free listing (with a reciprocal link) they both have PR of 50 so I was wondering are these type of links still worth it? Best wishes. David.

Pursuing Links on Sites You Have a Link From
Is it a bad idea to spend resources to get a second link from a site that already links to you? It seems like the marginal value of each additional link is much smaller than the first link.

Creative link building ideas for law sites
I have a client who does not actively participate in the content writing or resource providing part of optimization or link building. I want to build some more links to the site outside of content spreading and guest blogging. I have read a lot of the recent articles on creative ways to build links but feel that most would not apply to this kind of site. Any ideas on creative link building methods for a law services info site?

Build Links with Bloggers
Hi! A few days ago, someone asked about how to ask links from bloggers and we got good answers, specially from Egol. But, I do want to add to that question: after conducting research on each blogger and make sure they have good quality content, how would you factor in their page rank, visitors, page view and social media info? if they don't have much traffic, with PR3 (we are PR4), which means we can't count on too much traffic from them, but, will backlink from such places deemed as quality link by Google? I do understand the higher number in PR and traffic is better, but, in our case, they don't come by often. Is it still worthwhile to do the lower sites?
