Manage category pages and duplicate content issues
-
Hi everybody,
I am now auditing this website www.disfracessimon.com
this website has some issues with canonicals and other things. But right now I have found something that I would like to know your opinion. When I was checking parts of the content in google to find duplicate content issues I found this:
I google I searched: "Chaleco de streck decorado con botones" and found
First result: "Hombre trovador" is the one I was checking -> Correct
The following results are category pages where the product is listed in.I was wondering if this could cause any problem related with duplicated content.
Should I no index category pages or should I keep it?
The first result in google was the product page. And category pages I think are good for link juice transfer and to capture some searchs from Google.Any advice?
Thank you

Didn't you notice that the paginated categories do not have the rel prev/next implemented? That could explain why page 2 and similar are indexed.
In the specific case of a site like yours, I would recommend to implement the rel prev/next (http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.es/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html), because the only indexable paginated lists are main categories (eg: Adultos, Infantiles, Halloween...), while the subcategories and facets cannot be indexed because of the use of the hashbang ("#") in their URLs.
In general, though, if a site presents hundreds if not thousand of URLs as consequence of pagination (category > subcategory > sub-subcategory / indexable facets), then I would look first the logs so to see if the bots are spending big part of their time crawling those paginated URLs and not so much the product pages.
If that was the case, I usually suggest to go for a mixed strategy:
- Let index the main categories, implementing the rel/prev tags;
- Let index only the first page (the organic landing page) of all the others paginated lists, not using the rel prev/next and using the "noindex, nofollow" meta robots from page 2+

Duplicate content issue
Hello! We have a lot of duplicate content issues on our website. Most of the pages with these issues are dictionary pages (about 1200 of them). They're not exactly duplicate, but they contain a different word with a translation, picture and audio pronunciation (example http://anglu24.lt/zodynas/a-suitcase-lagaminas). What's the better way of solving this? We probably shouldn't disallow dictionary pages in robots.txt, right? Thanks!

Is a different location in page title, h1 title, and meta description enough to avoid Duplicate Content concern?
I have a dynamic website which will have location-based internal pages that will have a <title>and <h1> title, and meta description tag that will include the subregion of a city. Each page also will have an 'info' section describing the generic product/service offered which will also include the name of the subregion. The 'specific product/service content will be dynamic but in some cases will be almost identical--ie subregion A may sometimes have the same specific content result as subregion B. Will the difference of just the location put in each of the above tags be enough for me to avoid a Duplicate Content concern?</p></title>

Duplicate Page Content / Titles Help
Hi guys, My SEOmoz crawl diagnostics throw up thousands of Dup Page Content / Title errors which are mostly from the forum attached to my website. In-particular it's the forum user's profiles that are causing the issue, below is a sample of the URLs that are being penalised: http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/myforum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=1308 I thought that by adding - http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/myforum/pop_profile.asp to my robots.txt file under 'Ignore' would cause the bots to overlook the thousands of profile pages but the latest SEOmoz crawl still picks them up. My question is, how can I get the bots to ignore these profile pages (they don't contain any useful content) and how much will this be affecting my rankings (bearing in mind I have thousands of errors for dup content and dup page titles). Thanks guys Gareth

Will pages irrelevant to a site's core content dilute SEO value of core pages?
We have a website with around 40 product pages. We also have around 300 pages with individual ingredients used for the products and on top of that we have some 400 pages of individual retailers which stock the products. Ingredient pages have same basic short info about the ingredients and the retail pages just have the retailer name, adress and content details. Question is, should I add noindex to all the ingredient and or retailer pages so that the focus is entirely on the product pages? Thanks for you help!

How to deal with category browsing and duplicate content
On an ecommerce site there are typically a lot of pages that may appear to be duplications due to category browse results where the only difference may be the sorting by price or number of products per page. How best to deal with this? Add nofollow to the sorting links? Set canonical values that ignore these variables? Set cononical values that match the category home page? Is this even a possible problem with Panda or spiders in general?
