What to start with? Moz also offers so much; what report should I start with?
-
As a new Moz user, what should I do first?
-
That's really usefull
-
Thanks so much. This gives me the guidance I need to start.
-
- Get connected
Make sure that you hook up GA to your profile, in addition to all of your social profiles. This makes sure Moz can get all your data. Also, be sure to make sure that your robots.txt does not have anything wonky in it that would stop Moz from getting a good crawl of your site.
- Keywords
Put in the keywords you want to track so that you can start getting data on those as well. If you are not sure where to start, they have tools and tutorials to help
- Brand mentions / keyword monitoring
Set this up so you can start getting alerts on your brand and major key terms
-
Let everything run for about 1 week so you can get all of your data in.
-
Set a calendar or other reminder first think when you get into work on Friday to watch the latest Whiteboard Friday video (some of my favorite content on the site)
-
Set a schedule so that when you get email alerts from Moz you can do the following
a) See if you need to fix any technical seo items based on your Moz crawl
b) See if you have any link outreach opportunities based on your brand monitoring
c) Check any trends in ranking of your key pages
d) Start a regular audit of your most important pages for your most important keywords to see if you need to make any modifications to pages.
- After about a month in, read everything you can get your hands on around Open Site Explorer. Download the CSV that has your data and consider things like
a) Are there any bad links (links from sites with a high spam score) that I might need to disavow?
b) Are there any links that are no followed to my site that I could request to be changed to a follow?
c) What are my competitors doing and can I gain similar links?
d) Are there any new links that I need to reach out to those sites and say thanks to or otherwise network with?
- When you have read everything about all the above or during any of the above points, feel free to search the QNA and or ask questions. This list is just part of what you can do.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. CHOMP!

Why does the MOZ bar not work on SERPs with site links?
Maybe a dumb question (am a beginner), but MOZ bar shows no information on SERP results with site links? I'm sure there's a reason? What is it?

Is there a way to connect my Google + Business page with Moz? The only option I have available to connect when I press the button is my personal Google + Page. Thanks!

I am new to MOZ, I set up one tracking campaign two weeks ago, I have tracked no keywords, I have done some keyword research for ranking difficulty and in two weeks I have already hit 50K pages crawled, I'm maxed out, is this common?
I am a startup and can't afford the higher plans yet. And even their highest plan is 600K pages crawled, which seems really low considering how lightly I used the tool and how quickly I hit 50K. Does anyone have any advice or information on how they use the tool on lower packages? Did I do something wrong to hit 50K pages crawled that fast? Does this pricing make any sense, it seems like an incredibly high price, I love the tool, any help is appreciated.

Moz Analytics - How can I turn a whole report to 'Monthly'?
Hello, After spending 3 days setting up 14 clients on this system, by this, I mean I went through each client and re-made the same report 14 times as there is no alternative..I have noticed on my reports that: 'Dashboard' is set to 'Weekly' Social is set to 'Daily' Branding is set to 'Monthly' First questions, when I try to run a report, I go to Add Module and change 'Weekly' to 'Monthly', but when I press next, it changes itself back again, am I doing something wrong? UPDATE: I have found that I have go back in the reports, change the heading to 'Monthly' and then re-add this section again. How can I just run a whole report with monthly values? Surely, I do not have to re-do the entire report AGAIN, just to get a different value? I am mortified at how unfinished this product is, if this is the case.

Moz's official stance on Subdomain vs Subfolder - does it need updating?
Hi, I am drawing your attention to Moz's Domain basics here: http://moz.com/learn/seo/domain It reads: "Since search engines keep different metrics for domains than they do subdomains, it is recommended that webmasters place link-worthy content like blogs in subfolders rather than subdomains. (i.e. www.example.com/blog/ rather than blog.example.com) The notable exceptions to this are language-specific websites. (i.e., en.example.com for the English version of the website)." I am wondering if this is still Moz's current recommendation on the subfolders vs subdomains debate, given that the above (sort of) implies that SE's may not combine ranking factors to the domain as a whole if subdomains are used - which (sort of) contradicts Matt Cutts last video on the matter ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MswMYk05tk ) which implies that this is not the case and there is so little difference that their recommendation is to use whatever is easiest. It would also seem to me that if you were looking through the eyes of Google, it would be silly to treat them differently if there were no difference at all other than subdomain vs subfolder as one of the main reasons a user would use a sud-domain is a technical on for which it would not make sense for Google to treat differently in terms of its algorithm. I notice that in terms of Moz, while most of the site uses subfolders, you do have http://devblog.moz.com/ - and I was wondering if this is due to a technical reason or conscious decision, as it would seem to me that the content within this section is indeed linkworthy (as it has external links pointing to it from external sources), therefore it would seem to not be following the initial advice that is posted in Moz's basics on domains. Therefore I am assuming it is due to a technical reason - or that Moz's adive is out of date with current Moz thinking, and is indeed in line with Matt C in that it doesn't matter. Cheers
