Citation building
-
Hi!
I´m trying to get some understanding of local SEO. Most of my clients are based in Norway, will building citations in other countries have any effect on the rankings (negative / positive)
Will it be better spending my time creating citations on norwegian listings?

You are very welcome! Thanks for asking a good question.

Thank you very much! Nice local skills

Hej Aleksander! Hvordan går det?
So, here's the straight talk on citations. There are 2 main benefits to building them:
-
The more local business platforms on which you list a business, the better the chances are that customers will find you on their choice of sites. So, for example, customers who really like TripAdvisor will find your business there if you're listed there, and customers who prefer Yelp will find you over there, if you're listed.
-
Citation spread, consistency and authority are all believed to positively impact Google local pack rankings. So, the more citations you have on quality, relevant platforms, the more 'trust' it is believed Google will feel in the validity of your business data.
So far so good, right? But, it's very important to understand that all of the above is tied to you having a unique physical location in a specific place. For example, your business is located at Karl Johans gate in Oslo. You can only build citations for this specific location. You cannot build citations stating that your business is also located in Sweden, for example. But, what you should do is research which directories the search engines return most highly for you core search terms and be sure you are listed there, regardless of where the business data source is. For example, lots of US-based businesses are listed in directory called Hotfrog, which is physically located in Australia. So main takeways are:
-
Build citations on those directories that are popular in Norway for your industry's common searches, regardless of where the citation platform's company is physically located, but ...
-
Only build citations for your actual physical location. Never try to appear as though your business is physically located in any other city or country, unless you have a staffed physical office there.
Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions!

link building problems
Hello everyone
Link Building | | mkeshavarzmozprodt
I am not sure about the way Moz rank websites but sometimes I think it's a bit confusing. As an example, it kept changing in 3 days by going up and down. In addition, It is not compatible with my Ahrefs ranking. Would you please tell me which one is more correct and accurate in terms of my website authority?
It would be my pleasure if you take look at it first. Thank you in advance.

Link Building - Affiliate Link Programs
I'm getting some conflicting information when researching this... I want to create the most organic link building strategy that not only gets high authority sites linking to a website, but relevant websites. I'm creating an affiliate link program where I link to partner and affiliate companies, who in turn link back to me. The question is where to put these links. I was initially thinking of putting them in the footer so they add credibility to every page, and in turn ask my affiliates to do the same thing. However; some sources say that Google no longer looks at links in the footer section. Is it true that Google doesn't count links in footer sections? And do you have any tips on creating this Affiliate Link Program?

Is tiered link building a good thing?
I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

Link building with About.com and ehow.com
Does anyone know if About.com has a policy on providing back links to websites. A client of mine has had a product reviewed on about.com as well as being included in a "how to" article, but no back link was provided. I checked out the page and noticed "paid for advertisement" back links over random words but no back links on any of the pages I randomly searched that were related to the topic being discussed.

How fast is too fast when it comes to link building?
I'm getting ready to start a massive link building campaign. I plan on using a variety of anchor texts, getting links from a variety of sources, and only getting high quality links from relevant sites. My main concern is getting penalized for gaining too many links too quickly. Does anyone have any advice on how fast is too fast? Or how much is too much in a certain amount of time? Thanks!

Link building options...slim
I am in a smaller town and sell real estate. I have seen a lot of the competitors links and some of them are just blog commenting spam and things like that (although they are ranking well for certain terms and their links are coming from sites that have nothing to do with real estate.) I guess what I am trying to say is should I start going after links from other towns/cities in my state or should I go outside of my state and start looking for other links in other cities and states? I have bought my townstate.com from someone recently and it ranks highly for town, state. I am trying to find different ways to get to number one for my "town, state real estate". What would you do? Would you continue to add content once a week or so as well as build links? Thanks!

Market Samurai's Latest Link Building Tool
Hey, Would be interested to see everyone's opinion on the latest software form Market Samurai http://www.noblesamurai.com/as/video/3 It's basically an article spinning & syndication promising to be the 'biggest in the world'. Most things they mention in the video is quite contradictory to everything SEOmoz teaches about link building. What's everyone's thoughts about Market Samurai and their practices?
