Fake 404 Issue
-
Hello,
I just had a problem my site started showing up 404 issues for all my wordpress pages and post but visually the page was loading with content but yet all pages and software including google WMT was showing the 404 issue. I never found the issue but was able to move the site into a new hosting and restore from a backup and it work.
Google found the issue on Jan 27th and they remove all the pages with 404 from the index and I lost most of my top ranking I have since fix the issue and was wondering if google would restore my ranking in such a case?
Regards,
M

Hi,
Make sure that you check your site with a tool like ScreamingFrog to find out if there are any URLs on your site that will still give a 404. If that's the case make sure to fix them. Otherwise you should be able to mark them as fixed as answered before.
Martijn.

If you are sure then do Mark as fixed in GWT.

Duplicate content : domain alias issue
Hello there ! Let's say my client has 2 webshops (that exists since long time, so many backlinks & good authority on both) : individuals.nl : for individuals (has 200 backlinks, let's say) pros.nl : exact same products, exact same content, but with a different branding intended to professionnals (has 100 backlinks, let's say) So, both websites are 99% identical and it has to remain like that !!! Obviously, this creates duplicate content issues. Goal : I want "individuals.nl" to get all ranking value (while "pros.nl" should remain accessible through direct access & appear on it's own brand queries). Solution ? Implement canonical tags on "pros**.nl**" that goes to "individuals.nl". That way, "individuals.nl" will get all ranking value, while "pros.nl" will still be reachable through direct access. However, "individuals.nl" will then replace "pros.nl" from SERP in the long-term. The only thing I want is to keep "pros.nl" visible for its own brand queries -> it won't be possible through organic search result, so, I'm just gonna buy those "pros" queries through paid search ! Put links on all pages of pros.nl to individuals.nl (but not the other way around), so that "pros.nl" will pass some ranking value to "individuals.nl" (but only a small part of the ranking value -> ideally, I would like to pass all link value to this domain). Could someone advise me ??? (I know it sound a bit complicated... but I don't have much choice ^^)

Product Documentation Causing 23-40K issues
One of my biggest hurdles at my company is our Product Documentation library, which houses thousands of pages of publicly accessible and indexed content on old and new versions of our product. Every time a product name changes the URL changes, causing a 404, so I typically have 100s of 404s every few months from this site. It's housed off our main domain. We have 23,000+ Duplicate Pages, 40,000 missing meta descriptions, and 38,000 due to this library. It is not built the same as our main content, with page titles and meta descriptions, so everything is defaulted and duplicate. I'm trying to make a case that this is an issue, especially as we migrate our site next year to a new CMS. Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with this issue in the short term and long term? Is it worth asking the owners of the section of content to develop page titles and meta descriptions on 40,000 pieces of content? They do not see the value of SEO and the issues this can cause. It needs to be publicly accessible, but it's not highly ranked content. It's really for customers who want to know more about the product. But I worry it is hurting other parts of our site, with the absurd amount of duplicate content, meta, and page title issues.

404 not working?
Apologies - not strictly a search question, although I am concerned that it may be negatively impacting my sites. If I enter an invalid URL - the "page not found 404 error" doesn't seem to be working. I can enter http://www.%sitename%/index.php/randomnamemadeup/ and it displays the homepage (albeit with a broken CSS). I can't fathom it out - any help appreciated. Thanks, David

404 page for webshop vs 302 redirect
Hi everybody Im the owner of a webshop and we have implemented that products that are not instock are disabled from the shop. My problem is that i have a lot of 404 pages, that right now get redirected to the front page, when the item are not instock. This is because it would hurt the conversion rate if they got a standard 404 page. Customers dont know what a 404 and would click back and choose another competitor. Its really hard to find out what are the best solution and what are not a downrank at google. This has been running like this for 2 years and cant see any negative in the solution regarding seo and so on, What are your thoughts? Christian Hansen Denmark

Need help with Joomla duplicate content issues
One of my campaigns is for a Joomla site (http://genesisstudios.com) and when my full crawl was done and I review the report, I have significant duplicate content issues. They seem to come from the automatic creation of /rss pages. For example: http://www.genesisstudios.com/loose is the page but the duplicate content shows up as http://www.genesisstudios.com/loose/rss It appears that Joomla creates feeds for every page automatically and I'm not sure how to address the problem they create. I have been chasing down duplicate content issues for some time and thought they were gone, but now I have about 40 more instances of this type. It also appears that even though there is a canonicalization plugin present and enabled, the crawl report shows 'false' for and rel= canonicalization tags Anyone got any ideas? Thanks so much... Caninical issue
Hello all, I have a problem related to "canonical issues" that I would like to get your view on: The issue: Our site: http://www.texaspoker.dk/ has a "canonical issue" with the home page. We added a redirect to www.texaspoker.dk, but this hasn't solved our problem. In the latest "too many on page links" analysis made with SEOmoz' exelent SEO tool, we get the following error: http://www.texaspoker.dk(101 on page links) http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 (on page links) So, made simple, the analysis tells us that both http://www.texaspoker.dk and http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 has too many on page links. How do I eliminate / remove the unwanted http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 and how did it, in the first place, get there? Thanks a lot!

Drupal 1.5 Issue: Taxonomy
Hi there I have a domain which is built in Drupal 1.5 . We managed to redirect all nodes to the actial SEF URL. The one issue we have no is redirecting the taxonomy urls to the SEF url. The obviuos answr is to do a manual 301 redirect n the htaccess file but this will a long process as there are over 500 urls affected. Is there a better way to do this automatically within Drupal? Your thoughts and ideas are welcome.
