Recommendations for Magento hosting
-
Any recommendations for hosting companies in the UK to host a large-ish Magento site?
Also is it worthwhile going after someone who specialises in Magento hosting or not?
Don't really want to go down a dedicated server root due to cost.
Hints, tips and advice much appreciated
Thank you in advance

HI,
If it is a largish shop I would probably go for a Magento hosting partner / specialist. Magento is a resource hog and specialists will have tweaked certain settings in the db / php / server setup to address magento specific performance issues. Costs a bit more but you can rest easy that it is setup the way it should be. Have heard good comments about nexcess but haven't any direct experience with them....

Found the link to TSO's magento hosting... https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting/magento-hosting

Although I haven't personally used these guys, I hear TSO is good. Plus I think they even have a special Magento hosting plan.
Can you go with a VPS? We're not on Magento but are using Godaddy's (actually from a reseller) servers and it's been great.

Moz Pro recommends not using a keyword more than 15 times. If there is a lot of content and the density is low, is it okay to go over that?
From MOZ on-page grader... "Recommendation: Edit your page to use your targeted keywords no more than 15 times." But if I use a keyword 50 times and the keyword density is only 2 percent, is that ok? What is more important, the raw number used or the density?

Recommendation: Add a canonical URL tag referencing this URL to the header of the page.
Please clarify: In the page optimization tool, seomoz recommends using the canonical url tag on the unique page itself. Is it the same canonical url tag used when want juice to go to the original page? Although the canonical URL tag is generally thought of as a way to solve duplicate content problems, it can be extremely wise to use it on every (unique) page of a site to help prevent any query strings, session IDs, scraped versions, licensing deals or future developments to potentially create a secondary version and pull link juice or other metrics away from the original. We believe the canonical URL tag is a best practice to help prevent future problems, even if nothing is specifically duplicate/problematic today. Please give example.

Recommended Min Amount of Content for "News" Bulletins
My company often puts out short news bulletins to announce short news updates. We have to write about these topics for our customers and to remain as an industry leader. However, there is not much real and interesting content to write about these topics. What is the minimum length you think these articles should consist of so that Google won't see them as weak/useless pages and possibly give us a Panda penalty for them?

Recommended SEO company/expert
It's as simple as the title. We're a well established ecommerce company about to move away from the actinic platform on to a new magento site. Of late our long held rankings have slipped and we are looking for guidance in making up the lost ground and getting the most SEO wise from magento. Thanks is advance.

It has been recommended that we remove the number of links in our footer, should we?
We have a pretty user friendly footer with almost an entire site-map on it. It's similar to many e-commerce company footers, and I think it's useful to the user. SEO professionals have recommended that to reduce the number of links on any given page on our site we should compress our footer and only show the headers, thus removing many links. This in my opinion is a disservice to the user and makes the site not look as good, but maybe it's a good idea for SEO to get rid of so many links per page? What do you think?
