Deleteing old page and passing on link strenth?

We are a printing company and thinking over bringing our products down to 2 - 3 rather than the 10+ we currently have, the pages we will be getting rid of will be pages such as flyers, booklets etc and just concentrating on banners and stickers would you suggest 301ing the pages to the home page or picking pages for them to go to?
Also could we expect a decent raise for the pages we are left with?

Bob, generally speaking it's best to redirect users to the page that's most appropriate. Think of the users and what page they would land on--and be redirected to. If they were looking for an old product page and just redirected to the home page, would that be frustrating for them?
When it comes to an actual search engine ranking lift or boost, you most likely won't see one. You only would just not rank anymore for those products that you used to offer. There still may be a boost if you were to redirect an old product page to another page and there were links pointing to the old product page from external websites. Then, the boost might be passed on to the product page you redirect to.

Do the products you're shuttering have decent backlinks behind them? If not, then you probably won't see a noticeable lift. Even if you do have some good backlinks there, my guess is that any lift would be small at best. I don't say that to discourage you, mind you. Good SEO is a collection of a bunch of little things that all add up to a lot, so don't skip it just because it's small.
Also, Jordan's comments about setting up 301s to the most relevant alternative and doing what's best for the user are spot on.

An alternative idea is you could create a new page with info on why your current products are better for the intended purpose of the old products. For example...flyers are generally viewed as a waste of materials by Millennials and many others, so instead of producing flyers you now focus on banners (or business cards or whatever you think is a better alternative). So you could redirect your old page about flyers to a new article on the benefits of another product over flyers.
This probably would only work well for some products, certainly others will be a redirect to an already existing page.

If possible you want to redirect the page to its equivalent where applicable. It is considered best practice to not do a blanket redirect to the homepage however if there is no other relevant page then the homepage would work just fine. You want to think about what is best for the user. Moz does a wonderful job explaining redirects in this article.
Also, are you asking about a raise in page rank for the remaining pages ?

Delete old blog posts after 301 redirects to new pages?
Hi Moz Community, I've recently created several new pages on my site using much of the same copy from blog posts on the same topics (we did this for design flexibility and a few other reasons). The blogs and pages aren't exactly identical, as the new pages have much more content, but I don't think there's a point to having both and I don't want to have duplicate content, so we've used 301 redirects from the old blog posts to the new pages of the same topic. My question is: can I go ahead and delete the old blog posts? (Or would there be any reasons I shouldn't delete them?) I'm guessing with the 301 redirects, all will be well in the world and I can just delete the old posts, but I wanted to triple check to make sure. Having issues with Redirects not working and old links on SERP
We just migrated a site and built a redirect map for Site A to B. If there were old redirects made for site A that weren't pulled when pulling internal links for site A, do those also need to be redirected to site B to eliminate a Redirect chain? Cannot figure out why old links are still showing up, does it take a few days for google to figure out these are not real pages?

Home Page Ranking Instead of Service Pages
Hi everyone! I've noticed that many of our clients have pages addressing specific queries related to specific services on their websites, but that the Home Page is increasingly showing as the "ranking" page. For example, a plastic surgeon we work with has a page specifically talking about his breast augmentation procedure for Miami, FL but instead of THAT page showing in the search results, Google is using his home page. Noticing this across the board. Any insights? Should we still be optimizing these specific service pages? Should I be spending time trying to make sure Google ranks the page specifically addressing that query because it SHOULD perform better? Thanks for the help. Confused SEO :/, Ricky Shockley

Old pages - should I remove them from serps?
Hi guys, I need an advice from you, a recommendation. I have some old LPs from old campaigns, around 70 pages indexed on Google, campaigns that are not available anymore. I have removed them from my DB, but they still remained on server so Google still sees them as URLs on my site, witch I totally agree. What should I do with this pages? Should I remove them completely? (url removal tool) or use rel=canonical? How will this affect my domain authority and rankings? This pages doesn't bring traffic any more, maybe a view now and then, but overall this pages don't bring traffic.

Can a 307 Redirect Pass on a Manual Google Link Penalty?
Hi, I am using a 307 redirect to redirect traffic from an old site which has a google manual link penalty against it to a brand new site. My understanding is that 307 will not pass on link juice which is okay as I'm starting fresh with the new site, but I would hate to risk having the penalty from the old site being passed onto the new site. I am using a 307 in lieu of have a "Click Here to be directed to new site" page.. Thanks in advance.

Determining When to Break a Page Into Multiple Pages?
Suppose you have a page on your site that is a couple thousand words long. How would you determine when to split the page into two and are there any SEO advantages to doing this like being more focused on a specific topic. I noticed the Beginner's Guide to SEO is split into several pages, although it would concentrate the link juice if it was all on one page. Suppose you have a lot of comments. Is it better to move comments to a second page at a certain point? Sometimes the comments are not super focused on the topic of the page compared to the main text.

If you only want your home page to rank, can you use rel="canonical" on all your other pages?
If you have a lot of pages with 1 or 2 inbound links, what would be the effect of using rel="canonical" to point all those pages to the home page? Would it boost the rankings of the home page? As I understand it, your long-tail keyword traffic would start landing on the home page instead of finding what they were looking for. That would be bad, but might be worth it.

What's the difference between a category page and a content page
Hello, Little confused on this matter. From a website architectural and content stand point, what is the difference between a category page and a content page? So lets say I was going to build a website around tea. My home page would be about tea. My category pages would be: White Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Team and British Tea correct? ( I Would write content for each of these topics on their respective category pages correct?) Then suppose I wrote articles on organic white tea, white tea recipes, how to brew white team etc...( Are these content pages?) Do I think link FROM my category page ( White Tea) to my ( Content pages ie; Organic White Tea, white tea receipes etc) or do I link from my content page to my category page? I hope this makes sense.
