JugglingCats.com - How did they do it?
-
https://www.jugglingcats.com/ has a domain authority of 30.
That seems crazy to me, especially for a site that looks like it hasn't been updated in years, has maybe 300 words, and uses Comic Sans for goodness sake!
Yes, I see that their domain has been around since 2002, and they have about 130+ inbound domains. But is that enough? What else do you think has contributed to their success? Or is it success? Should they, for their age, be much higher?
I'm very curious as to your take on it.

Domain Authority is used to track the the “strength” of your website compared to other websites. According to Moz, this is metric is calculated "by combining all of our other link metrics—linking root domains, number of total links, MozRank, MozTrust, etc.—into a single score."
Juggle Cats has 13 Root Domains and 41,022 Total Links. Most of which seem to be coming from sites owned by the same parent company called Proquantum, a _"Special-Interest Directory Website Publishers since 2002" _ In addition to Juggling Cats, they also own Engineers Guide USA, Health Guide USA, AssessorLinks, and Doomsday Guide. Each of these websites includes a footer that links to all of the other sites (and this footer can be seen on every page).
That being said, a domain authority of 30 for a site that's been around since 2002 is nothing to write home about. I've worked with companies who have newer sites that look terrible & aren't even optimized for search, and they'll often still have a domain authority between 30-40. This is because domain authority is more about #links than anything else, and more specifically it's about the # of linking root domains. In this case, it seems like the huge # of total links might be pulling up the overall domain authority slightly...but this isn't really significant in my opinion.

Do links on Reference.com and Ask.com count as backlinks?
Hi there Just had a quick question about links on Reference.com or Ask.com. I have been looking at my competitors link profiles to get ideas of who and where I should/could be linking from. One of my main competitors seems to have links on Reference.com and Ask.com which are being listed in there profile. Reference.com are dofollow. Our site is also appearing on these sites, but the links are being listed under our profile. We have been up and running for more that 3 years now. The obviously have high DR and I think must be a contributing factor to their rank, having looked at other links in their profile. It seems strange because I thought these sites are effectively search engines and therefore wouldn't count towards your backlink profile? Can anyone explain? Would be most grateful if someone can. Many thanks in advance. Clojo

We have links from our page at .com and .com/. Should we be concerned about this and try to merge?
When running link reports for our page .com, it redirects to .com/. We do have links for both URLs, but .com/ is significantly more than the other. Should we be concerned by this? Are we losing some links because of this?

.com links for .co.uk domains
Hi, I was wondering whether .com links from the US for .co.uk domains increase the search engine visibility of .co.uk domain in the UK just as much as .co.uk links for .co.uk domains (assuming they are all top quality content links)? (Context: I have heard that it does from someone who should know, but I would like to double check on that) If half of the backlinks for a .co.uk domain are from .com domains in the US is this a dangerous pattern Google would pick up on?

Do subdomains (eg .blogspot.com) carry the same link juice as a .com or .co.uk?
Hi guys. Just wondered what people's thoughts were on the value of a link from a subdomain vs a .com or .co.uk - I have several clients operating within the UK crafts sector, and there are a huge number of blogspot blogs with decent PR etc. Given that anyone can start one of these for free (and therefore theoretically get themselves hundreds of bogus links), I wonder whether they carry the same value as an independent site. I'll look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts 🙂

Do links to blog.domainname.com help the www.domainname.com subdomain?
Hi, Do links to pages within the blog.domainname.com subdomain help the rankings of pages within the main www.domainname.com subdomain? (where "domainname" is the same of course). Thanks.

Does PA matter much on blogs like tumblr, wordpress.com?
I've been exploring setting up pages on these type of sites. When searching for key words I've discovered the following... If a sites DA id let's say 83, the root domain you create is also an 83 (not 100% but most I've looked at) The PA starts at 1, but there seem to be a lot of these blog sites that rank for my key word searches even though the PA is a 1. So... I was wondering the value of attempting the get the PA of mine greater than one with back links. The blog page will link to the corresponding page on my main site. Is it worth the time, or PA in this case is not really much of a ranking factor in creating link juice? What I'm asking is that will a page on let's say joemastriano.blogspot.com/ (whatever) get more link juice to the page i link it to if the PA was 25 and not 1?

Our competitor, Gaiam.com is able to get links back from Youtube. How are they doing this?
When I use Open Site Explorer to look at our competitor's link profile, I notice that Gaiam.com is getting lots of valuable links from their videos on Youtube. We have a lot of videos on Youtube as well and are not receiving links back. What is the secret? Our website address is fully shown in the profile and we seem to match them - what are we missing? Thanks
