Community Discussion: How is Your Brand Scaling Effective Email Outreach?
-
Recently, I wrote a Moz post on what I think comprises effective online marketing outreach via email: Why You Should Steal My Daughter's Playbook for Effective Email Outreach
Though I'm by no means an outreach expert, it's a topic I do feel qualified to talk about, owing to having worked with numerous PR/Outreach folks, seeing what works and what does not, and because of my experience working for and with Fortune 25s in a sales, outreach capacity. I'm wondering...
- What's the biggest challenge you've faced with regard to outreach?
- How are you addressing it?
- What's the No. 1 tactic you've used to attain success in email outreach?

Have to confess: Track, Test, Tweak, Repeat is legit.
Similar to my Refine, Revise, Repeat for content creation and amplification.
So often we hear that something or another didn't work, when in reality the brand or the individual either didn't optimize the experience for the desired outcome, didn't have clear, defined goals in place or lacked the ability to track the effort's performance.
What I love about email is it's easy to track. From there, it's all about the TTR

Our company has learned a lot of lessons through A/B testing various components of our email newsletter. We started by testing subject lines, then pre-headers, then calls-to-action throughout the content of the email itself. Each of these tests has given us new insights into what our email subscribers are looking for from our emails.
Of course, this is all dependent on the industry of the clients you're managing email marketing for. Some of our clients are in industries where their subscribers are constantly searching for deals and promotions, so we lead with those. Others are in industries where their subscribers are more interested in tips and tricks, so we lead with those.
We were only able to determine which of these tactics worked through which industry using our signature method of TTTR: Track, Test, Tweak, Repeat. We track the data associated with each email, test out new methods, tweak the tests to try new things, and repeat!
Hope this helps!

Content Marketing and how it effects Rankings
Hi there everyone! I have what I think is a simple question, but one I can't fully understand the answer to. If I had a homepage that I wanted to optimize for the keyword, e.g. "Second Hand Cars", so I add the keyword in the page title and text etc etc. But I still don't rank well for it. So I turn to content marketing and create some content on my site's blog about new cars, sports cars, and of course second hand cars, with some great content and anchor text pointing back to the home page. Now here's my question, how does creating that content on a blog, or on someone's blog/website help my homepage rank higher for my chosen keyword? Surely it would just help the blog post rank higher? And if someone were to search for "Buy Secondhand cars", wouldn't my hypothetical blog post (with more shares and links than my home page) rank higher than the home page itself? If anyone can clear this up for me I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks in advance Cheers

Using Online Communities for link building..
Hello. All I have a question in regards to online communities. Is joining an online community( i.e. Industry related forums, commenting on industry related news sites, responding to blog post) a good way to do link building? I don't mean in the sense of spamming but actually being an active part of a online community and adding valuable to the conversation. I have tried posting blog post on a industry related online community: biggerpockets.com but this site does not show up as a link when I pull an open site explorer for my website. Any suggestions ?

How long before backlinks take effect?
In general how long would it take for Google to update the SERP after it found the external link activity? Does it depend on the website the link is on as? So for example, after it found a link on the BBC would the SERP update a lot quicker then after a link on a small blog? Maybe Google updates on a certain day?

Most effective method for link building?
From your experience, what have you found to be the most effective method for link building? It's starting to look like the only way to receive good links is by writing great content or offering great services and allowing the links to come in naturally (which is obviously the most important thing anway), but are there still any effective methods of getting valuable links through link building, apart from having personal connections and relationships with site owners?

Advice for brand new site
Dear All I have been an SEO for several years now, and have just laucnhed a new site www.householdsaver.co.uk its in its early stages as I expect to add a community option where people post deals and offers they have found, share them with friends etc My question is really are all the old seo practices still worth doing? Things like directory sites, blog comments, articles sites, social bookmarking etc.... (I have already built up twitter users on the account before the site went live) With Moz's trust factor is it best to go for highrank trust sites first or... I guess you could say that I am suffering from what do I do first and is it all still worth doing and what are the early pit falls to think about..? ie too many links too soon and from to high or to low trusted sites? Any comments from anyone who have put a new site live in the past couple of years would be appricated. Thanks James

Share your favourite link exchange template email with us!
Hey Mozzers, I've been working on a bunch of different templates lately to approach various companies in our industry for link exchanges. But I'm somewhat stumped on what the best approach would be. I want to convey the message that a link exchange would be beneficial to their ranking in search engines, but I don't want to come off sounding overly spammy. Do you have a template that you have found worked well for you? Share it with us!

Outreach Approach
When you contact a blogger or website owner about guest posting, who do you say is contacting them? For example, do you say that you are an SEO for the company or do you simply sign off as the company you are doing work for. I tend to introduce myself as 'a PR/SEO representative for company X'. What about you?
