How Succesful?
-
Hi All,
How would you identify how succesful you have been to date when link building and trying to improve rank?
I have been running a campaign for a client that I think has been going pretty well. However, I would now like to show this but I am finding it hard to explain in my first report.
Its only been around two months and the client is use to looking at google analytics for their information but I wondered if someone might be able to give me an idea of what I should include in my report intially. I dont want to swamp with information so really want to be specific if possible.
Domain Authority: 29 now 28
Domain Moz Rank: 3.30 now 3.98
Domain Moz Trust: 3.47 now 3.76
Total Links: 3,053 now 6,123
Ext. Followed Links: 2,995 now 378 (hoping someone might be able to explain this also!)
Linking Root Domains: 21 now 28
Followed Linking Root Domains: 18 now 26
Linking C Blocks: 16 now 22
Are these poor results or are they clear signs of progress?
I guess I want to end up with a report saying some key point and giving some information on the above results, why the changes have happend etc. Obviously I would like to continue and up the link building but would appreciate some feedback from others as to whether the time has been wasted (i dont think it has incidentally but proving it might be another issue)
Thanks all

If I was a client and the service provider gave me a bunch of numbers I would not be too impressed.
The thing that would get my attention is something ringing.
That could be my telephone or my cash register.
How can you make something ring? That will make you an unquestionable success.

Q1 - Usually there is one update per month, sometimes more, they are trying to spped this up.
Q2 - Always use analytic for traffic reporting, any data you get from within the SEOmoz app is pulled from the Google analytics account anyway so their shouldn't be any difference. (perhaps I've miss-understood that question)
Q3 - The number of links depends entirely on the client, what the budget is, where the links are coming from so it's impossible to answer that question, not all links are created equal after all.

Thanks for reply, all of that helps.
Some other questions:
Q. When are the updates usually rolled out from SEOMOZ?
Q. How does one go about explaining to their clients the differences between Google Analytics and SEOMOZ? Traffic seems to differ somewhat as one example.
Q. How many new links would one hope to create a week for a client?
Thanks all

Hi Wayne,
Firstly I would look back at what the scope of the project was, what were the aims and objectives of the project? This should help you answer whether or not you have been successful in achieving those goals. Let me first address some of your concerns on the drop in links etc:
Domain Authority: 29 now 28
Domain Moz Rank: 3.30 now 3.98
Domain Moz Trust: 3.47 now 3.76
Total Links: 3,053 now 6,123
Ext. Followed Links: 2,995 now 378 (hoping someone might be able to explain this also!)
Linking Root Domains: 21 now 28
Followed Linking Root Domains: 18 now 26
Linking C Blocks: 16 now 22
SEOmoz have made some updates to the crawling - sadly, with a few hiccups. The new crawler is built to be fresher, but it is going deeper into domains, and, unfortunately, not visiting as many domains. Domains with a high MozRank are getting crawled deeper, but domains with middle to lower MozRanks are not getting crawled. Their top priority now is to get the domain diversity back up to or better than that of our last update (as was originally designed) so that they should have many more inbound links.
The above can be your answer to any questions regarding the drop in stats, explain that it's not that anything has been done badly, it's just the way it's being measured and should return to normal after the next update (hopefully).
If you have been building links you should also have a list of domains that you can prove you have been building links so again I wouldn't worry about explaining that.
Some good ways to measure success other than ranks are:
-Traffic volumes
-
Number of referring domains
-
Number of referring keywords
-
Average time spent on site
-Reduced bounce rate
Some of those might not be relevant if all you have been doing is link building but take what you need and leave the rest. I think the best is to look at traffic and number of keywords referring traffic. The reason being, while you might not be position1 or on page 1 for a lot of terms yet, you may be getting a lot of longer tail traffic which you can definitely take credit for.
I hope this helps

I have been investigating this problem for some time now and there must be a technical problem. My posts seem to be ignored by google. For example, if i put this title of my article in google, other sites come up instead of my website Lincolnshire Caravan Owners Struggle To Compete With Haven https://www.in2town.co.uk/skegness-news/lincolnshire-caravan-owners-struggle-to-compete-with-haven/ I am trying to find out what technical problem I have that is stopping google displaying my post. Can anyone advise me on what tools to use and how to find out what is going wrong

Google Not Picking Up Posts
I am trying to work out why from March 4th Google is not seeing my posts. Our google impressions have dropped from 8,000 to 40. If you put in the full article name with speach marks it does not find it, and instead shows the home page in google. We have not had any warnings. We did have work done on our site but nothing else i could think of to cause this. Can anyone let me know what may have caused this. All articles are original

What Tools Do I USe To Find Why My Site No Longer Ranks
Hi, I made the mistake of hiring a freelancer to work on my website [in2town.co.uk](link url) but after having a good website things went from bad to worse. The freelancer was kicked off the platform due to lots of compliants from people and creating backdoors to websites and posting on them. It cost me money to have the back door to our site closed. I then found lots of websites were stealing my content through the rss feed. Two of those sites have now been shut down by their hosting company. With all these problems I found in Feb that the hundreds of keywords that I ranked for had vanished. And all the ones that were in the top ten for many years have also vanished. When I create an article which includes https://www.in2town.co.uk/skegness-news/lincolnshire-premier-inn-staff-fear-for-their-jobs/ they cannot be found in Google. Normally before all these problems, my articles were found straight away. If I put in the title name Lincolnshire Premier Inn Staff Fear For Their Jobs and then add In2town in front of it, then instead of the page coming up with the article, it instead shows the home page. Can anyone please advise what tools i should be using to find out the problems and solve them, and can anyone offer advice please on what to do to solve this.

How to Boost Your WordPress Website Speed to 95+ (Without Premium Plugins)
I'm reaching out for some advice on improving my WordPress website's speed. I'm currently using a free theme for this fusion magazine and aiming for a score of 95+ on Google PageSpeed Insights. I'm aware that premium plugins can significantly enhance performance, but I'm hoping to achieve similar results using primarily free solutions and manual optimizations.

URLs dropping from index (Crawled, currently not indexed)
I've noticed that some of our URLs have recently dropped completely out of Google's index. When carrying out a URL inspection in GSC, it comes up with 'Crawled, currently not indexed'. Strangely, I've also noticed that under referring page it says 'None detected', which is definitely not the case. I wonder if it could be something to do with the following? https://www.seroundtable.com/google-ranking-index-drop-30192.html - It seems to be a bug affecting quite a few people. Here are a few examples of the URLs that have gone missing: https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/sexual-harassment-awareness-training https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/conflict-resolution-training https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/prevent-duty-training Any help here would be massively appreciated!

FAQ Schema Markup
I was wondering which blog posts would qualify for an FAQ Schema markup. For instance, we have a blog post which is more like a Q&A interview with our customer where our product gets mentioned several times. Would we get dinged for including our product name in the markup? First of all does that kind of blog posts even qualify for the markup? Example of the blog post: https://www.revulytics.com/blog/qa-techsmith-snagit-strategy-lead-daniel-foster

DISQUS COMMENTS backlinks-good for seo? YES/NO?
DISQUS COMMENTS backlinks-good for seo? YES/NO? I have just started commenting on "powered by disquus" websites in the Disqus comments box and left a link to my website in the name field! Having googled whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good for seo purposes i have discovered that there is a 50/50 view on the subject with some people saying they are a "goldmine" for getting high PR backlinks and others saying they are a waste of time because googlebot cannot read Java. My own experience of commenting on Disqus powered websites is that wordpress blogs powered by disqus comments ARE INDEXED by GOOGLE and the "BACKLINK IS IN THE SOURCE OF THE PAGE" When i comment on normal websites using the Disqus comment system i have found that my Disqus comments ARE NOT indexed by Google and there IS NO BACKLINK in the page source! Has anybody got any views on whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good?
