Do I need to worry about these 404s after changing permalinks structure?
-
Not long ago I wanted to change the permalink structure on a blog where the full date was included in the post urls to one where it was just /category/blog-post-title. The site is on a managed host and they setup the redirects for me and then I changed the permalink structure in the WP settings. Everything worked fine after and all old posts now redirect to the new structure.
However in Google search console I can see that my 404s report has jumped from a few hundred to several thousands but it seems to be counting the urls paths to elements such as images within the old posts permalink structure eg
/2012/6/some-post/some-image-in-post
all the old posts themselves and their content redirects fine though.
Do I need to worry about these 404s? It annoys me to see so many in my reports like that even if they aren't hurting my site

Hi Mark,
Have you figured out if the URLs that are 404'ing are still mentioned somewhere. Either in the canonical tags or somewhere else or that something is wrong with the redirects?
Martijn.

So, a 404 won't affect your overall SEO. It may affect usability if your higher traffic pages are resulting in an error. Obviously if it's images only, then that's less of a concern unless you were driving lots of traffic via image search.
Generally if you redirect everything, then the image links should be updated to (I did the same thing on one of my own sites fairly recently). But it may simply be Search Console lagging behind a bit... It's annoying if you want to have no errors on your reports (and I get bugged by the same thing sometimes, even on sites with 100s of thousands of pages), but as long as the posts are working fine, I wouldn't worry too much.

How do I hide comment reply's from google? Do I need to?
Reason for asking is Moz reports them as URL too long. Should these even be indexed by google if not, how do I hide them? Example URL : https://www.tansleyphotography.co.uk/farnham-castle-wedding-claire-chris/?reply-to=1876 This really doesn't need indexing, as it's just a comment on a blog post. Does it matter?

Changing commenting platforms...will deleting old comments hurt SEO?
Hi everyone, We've decided to move away from Disqus and use Facebook comments on one of our blogs. Our users prefer it, and we saw traffic increase when we did it on another site. My question is, will removing old comments (we have hundreds of them per post) hurt my seo? I've scoured the internet for an answer but can't find anything up to date. Old best practices said to keep old comments. What do you think? Thanks!

I would like to know if changing the permalink effects PA of the page?
Like lets say abc.com/abc-xyz.. I change that to abc.com/xyz-abc-hij An established page, having some links to the page(inbound and outbound both). If I change the permalink of that page, will that effect the PA of the page? All the links to the older permalink will be useless or they will link with the new permalink?

Keyword Placement in Page Title - will changing it make a big difference?
Hiya guys I've noticed since changing my Title of my forum from: Talk Nightlife | Nightlife and Clubbing forum for the UK to Talk Nightlife | Nightlife Forum and Clubbing Guide for the UK (current) ... That its jumped from 22nd to 10th in google for term "nightlife forum" Am wondering, because of the on site optimisation tool telling me I should put the keyword to the front to something like eg: Nightlife Forum | Talk Nightlife Clubbing Guide for the UK Will changing the Keyword and putting it to front of the Title make a big difference? Your thoughts please guys Cheers Luke

Main Page title change.
Hi, For some reason every week or two I am changing the title tag of my main page. Each change takes place because I find new version better than the old one. Does this have any impact on my SEO results (I'm keeping the main keywords each time) ? If it has an impact is it positive or negative ? And should I stick to one title and not change it under any circumstances for long periods of time ? Thanks!
