Pages with URL Too Long
-
Hello Mozzers!
MOZ keeps kindly telling me the URLs are too long. However, this is largely due to the structure of E-commerce site, which has to include 'brand' 'range' and 'products' keyword.
For example -
https://www.choicefurnituresuperstore.co.uk/Devonshire-Rustic-Oak-Bedside-Cabinet-1-Drawer-p40668.htmlMOZ recommends no more than 75 characters. This means we have 25-30 characters for both the brand name and product name.
Questions:
If it is an issue, how to fix it on my site?
If it's not an issue, how can we turn off this alert from MOZ?
Anyone know how big an issue URLs are as a ranking factor? I thought pretty low. -
Hi There
URL length is not used as a ranking factor. The guideline is that they mustn't be overly long without reason, otherwise they can look spammy.
If your URLs are:
Site/Category/Sub-Category/Brand/Product Name
Then I see no problem whatsoever. MOZ didn't used to warn on URL length - I generally ignore it and tell my clients not to worry about it.
Regards Nigel

Why does moz give different page authority to the same page if a visit comes from adwords vs organic search?
When clicking on an adwords ad the page the landing page has a page authority of 26. When clicking on organic search to the same exact landing page the page authority is 37. Why is this. Does moz or, more importantly Google see these as the same or separate pages? Thanks Tom

Web Stie STUCK on page 2 for 2years
Our website is a dating site for adults (not porn) (http://www.swingersocial.com) It’s been STUCK in the middle of page 2 for 1 ½ years. Moving up or down 2 ranking, that’s it. The way we determine our location is by entering the most common phrases used by people who search for our type of site. We surveyed 50+ people and the phrases they most frequently entered when using Google were “swingers websites” “swingers sites” and “free swingers sites”. In addition to our competitors ranking above us, they show “movement” in their rankings up & or down. Some even dropped to page 2 but they recovered – we are not seeing the same movement or recovery. Pages crawled on have remained virtually unchanged for months. The last 1 ½ years we have hired SEO companies, and as a result a great deal of effort has been put into the site. We are not naïve and realize some were better than others. We’ve invested a great deal of effort into content, key words, modifying tags, and throughout all of this we’ve seen no change. We had a detailed audit suggesting improvements (no surprise), the report overall was positive stating “There are a few things to do to optimize the site but looking at the keywords, SwingerSocial.com should be able to rank high.” We also implemented a blog area with over 70 blog posts. Our competitors on the other hand have only two blog posts and are continually ranking higher than us. Additionally, our competitors do not have sites on Pinterest, G+, FB, or Twitter – we have a presence on some of these. I do know that the number and quality of links are terrible. I’m looking for a partner to help us make strategic changes to the site that will allow us to rank higher.

Why did I not get on page analysis
I signed up last Friday for a 30 day trial and was hoping to get the on page analysis so I could get cracking on it. Moz said the crawl was done but I have no info for on page analysis which I find really useful when I have used this before. Any ideas and are any of the MOZ moderators able to get the system to perform one so I can make changes tonight for the MOZ crawl again tomorrow? Thanks Paul

Crawl Diagnostics 403 on home page...
In the crawl diagnostics it says oursite.com/ has a 403. doesn't say what's causing it but mentions no robots.txt. There is a robots.txt and I see no problems. How can I find out more information about this error?

SEOMoz On-Page Report Card
This question is for one of the SEOMoz staff. With the ongoing changes and improvement in algorithms, does the SEOMoz team keep the "On-page Report Card" up to date with best practices?

What is the difference between the Rank Tracker and the On-page Optimization page?
Both of them track keywords. In the Rank Tracker, you add each keyword manually and you associate it with a URL. For On-page Optimization page, the URLs are generated automatically based on searches and traffic?

How come they dont show info to SEOMOZ Should I link out from home page, is this detrimental does ANY single link from home page show google that I am not a PROPER web business. thanks
