Bounce rate high because customer login on different domain
-
Years ago we switch domain names for our site for almost everything except the client log in portal. Now we are experiencing really high bounce rates because site visitors will go to our site and then click on the client log in portal which takes them off our domain and on to our old domain. Because of this our bounce rate is around 80% and I know this is negatively effecting our traffic. Is there any way to fix this without switching the domain for the client log-in portal?
Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi Brit,
Interesting question! So I'd frame my answer in two parts:
- It would be an idea to deploy Google Analytics code to both domains to give a better idea of what people are actually doing on your site, rather than seeing lots of bounces. If the login portal isn't being tracked then there is the potential that those are actual bounces and not log ins. Tom Capper wrote a post about setting up multiple domain tracking here.
- If what you are seeing _are _logins then that shouldn't be affecting search traffic volume. Google monitors for users going to your site, then immediately going back to search results and clicking on something else, as a sign that they weren't satisfied with your site as a result. Google can't monitor what users do on non-Google sites and even if they did the fact that some users are going straight to somewhere else isn't necessarily a sign that your site isn't giving them what they want (in this case you're potentially giving them exactly what they want). On the other hand, if what you are seeing as bounces are actually users leaving your site and going back to search results then that could impact search traffic for the reasons above. So rather than considering domain moves, a good first step would probably be tying up those Analytics properties so you're tracking movement the same way your users are experiencing it, that way you can tell if you actually have a problem.
I hope that helps, do come back if you'd like more information

Different SERPs positions UK - Ireland
Hi there! I've been checking rankings in UK and Ireland for the last months and I found something really interesting... "Belfast + keyword" - UK = 2º position / Ireland = 1º position "keyword + Belfast" - UK = 14º position / Ireland = 1º position *(same keyword) I don't understand how it is possible... Website is not geo-targeted so Google has no preference for any of these countries... Any ideas about why does it happen?

Different results of the knowledge graph according to the language
Hi, when we search for our brandname in Google.com with language setted to english, we see a Wikipedia box at right.
Search Behavior | | Presencity
When we do the same with the language setting to french, italian, spanish or german, the Wikipedia box disappears and we see another box (example picture attached). Have you some ideas why the results aren't the same according to the language? Kind regards, Philippe rv9N3Ch.png0 -

Huge difference in search results depending on the country?
I have some keywords ranking in pages 2 and 3 in the US but for instance, in Canada, the same keywords rank somewhere between pages 15 and 25. When I check my US rankings, I use a Windows VPS located in the US. When I check my rankings in Canada, I use a computer physically located in Canada. Basically, about 80% of my rankings have gone away for countries other than the US. I have not set any geographical target for my website in GWT. How come there is such a big difference in search results across different countries?

Would you say it is more bennificial to seperate keywords in the title tag tag of a page using a common ( keyword , keyword | Domain.com) or using a hyphen as SEOmoz best practices reccommends (keyword - keyword | domain.com)?
Title tag best practices according to seomoz is the following keyowrd - keyword | brand.com but I have seen some interesting results from using a comma as to a hyphen to seperate keywords as reccomended and wanted to know which method is more crawler friendly.

Buying expired domains with PR and redirecting question :)
Hi, Might be a silly question but wanted to ask it anyway. Lets say I run a gifts website and this year I decide I want to try for a more competitive keyword 'Christmas Gifts'. Now each year I see a lot of search on for example 'Christmas Gifts 2011' and because of the search volume the EMD for this is gone (an affiliate has brought it or something). So the affiliate works hard on ranking it builds up say PR2-PR3 but when it comes around to renewing the domain they don't bother because 2011 search volume has passed and they move onto 'Christmas Gifts 2012'. My question is this: If I was to buy the 'Christmas Gifts 2011' when it expires and redirect it to my Xmas page would it pass the PR and give my new page a boost?
