Videos on Home Page
-
Hello,
My company is currently in the process of editing our website's homepage. My creative team wants to add several videos to an already big home page. I would like a more simple and less interactive home page. There has to be close to a half dozen videos already on the page.
I know that Google bots have trouble crawling some items like java. I also know that page speed is a huge factor and the mobile first index is quickly approaching. Is it ok to have all of these videos on home page? Could this due harm to the page. All the videos are hosted on Vimeo and typically expand from some sort of icon.
Page load time has been an issue and this will probably be our last update before google's mobile first index. I just want to make sure I am giving the correct advice by saying there is no problem with 6+ videos on a home page.
Any advice would be great!
Thanks!

We're attempting to shorten the content and length of the home page, remove some gifs/images. I am hoping that we wouldn't keep many videos, but the team wants to add/keep them.
I am hoping to see great results just from the removal of all the crap, but I want them to know that the more videos on the homepage, the longer it will take to load all of those videos. Google Page Speed Insights has us already at the 40s/100 for desktop and mobile. We've compressed images, removed/replaced svg images, compressed gifs, and were still hovering around that page speed. Google Developer Tools from Google Chrome shows us at almost 40 second total load time.
We're working on our backlinks and really are not that bad as far as our profile is concerned. I am just hoping that if we fix this home page speed issue, the rankings will follow suite.
I was unsure if the actions/automations around the videos could be a problem. I don't know if there is or isn't javascript involved. Sorry, not the most tech savvy, but also not the worst. Our videos are either placed in carousel or under an icon/button that shows a video preview as an image when you hover over the icon. Not sure if that is or is not java. Our videos are hosted on vinmeo and are embedded in the page.
I plan on explaining to them that if we want to try to rank for one of these videos then they probably would need their own page or to be placed on a very relevant page. Other than that, is there anything else I can go with? Too many videos considered a poor practice in preparation for the mobile index? If I am wrong or overreacting, then I'll let them put up their videos, but if people have seen results where to many videos hurt the mobile experience or page load time, please let me know.
Thanks again!

If you already have loading speed problems having lots of videos definitely won't help.
Regarding Java I take it you mean JavaScript as opposed to Java by Oracle? Google can the some degree at least interpret JavaScript these days but the more scripts you have on the page the more time it will take to load.
If it was me I would consider making sub- pages with one or two videos on each (or as many as necessary) that way you can have a broader coverage of keywords and the pages should load quicker.
You could look at using YouTube, it may load quicker.
All the best

How can I improve my search results for local pages?
My test for this specific example is http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com This client is trying to reach out for the local terms such as garage door repair for Temecula and other cities in riverside county. I build the following page. http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com/temecula-garage-door-repair-temecula-garage-door-service/ What am I doing wrong? Is there some plugin's or other type things that would help my rank locally? If you solve this you've solved one of the main problems I'm having with my business. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best Video Sitemap plugin for wordpress? And do I need both a video sitemap and a normal one?
Hi all, I currently use the Google XML Sitemaps plugin on my wordpress site. But we've recently began adding (self-hosted) videos that we've been careful to markup with the relevant schema. However, there's a couple of things I don't understand and am hoping someone could help: Do we need a separate video sitemap that either works alongside Google XML Sitemaps or replaces it? If we do need a video sitemap, what's the best video site map to get? (we are using the Thesis theme so can't use the Yoast one unfortunately as they don't play nice together...) Thanks for your help! Andrew

Question about Wistia and possible other Video Solutions for better SEO?
We are considering using Wistia as a more SEO-friendly video solution. In our preliminary tests, we like what we see with the exception of one thing. There is no way for video users to toggle the interactive transcripts on and off. From an aesthetic viewpoint, our team finds the scrolling text extremely visually distracting. For usability and SEO purposes, we know that having the transcript there is important. Unfortunately in the embed codes, you are limited to either including the interactive transcript, or leaving it out. There is no mechanism to allow users to view it if they want to, but leave it off if they don.t Has anyone here created a workaround for this problem or found another solution, like Wistia, that has a more aethetically pleasing and user-friendly presentation of trascripts/captions? Thanks! Dana

Google+ Local Page Wrong Categories
The "new" Google+ Local page for one of my clients is not showing the correct Business Categories. Seems like it reverted to an old Category before we revised. I looked in my Google Places dashboard and the correct Categories are there. They do not have a Google+ Profile yet. Any suggestions? They also seem to have disappeared for those categories we used to rank in the top three in Google Places results.

Unique content for local pages
Hi, working on a website of a retailer who has about 100 shops accross the country and every shop has a page on the corporate website. Some questions about content on these pages: is it ok to add links to the brands they sell in those shops on every business-page? It's a link to the product listing they sell of that brand I wrote a generic text about the business where I can replace city, street it's located, ... Is it ok to use that kind of text on the local business pages? anybody some ideas I can write about on those loca business pages?

What Tactics Are You Using for Video Marketing?
Hey everybody, I finally started shooting some screen capture videos and it is actually fun! Right now, I am uploading to Youtube and soon, Vimeo. Next, I embed them on a post and share it around a few social sites, Tweet it, and share it on my Facebook Page. I know there are more effective ways and sites for doing this. What tips can you Mozzers share? Thanks, Jared

Do search enginges prefer pages with mobile websites on the mobile phone?
Let me explain what I want to know: Somebody searches e.g. for a hotel on his mobile phone. Do the search engines rank websites with special mobile pages better than others? I am not considering the local factor here (let's say there are hotels nearby with or without mobile websites). If not, is there a trend for that? Does anyone have some datas / examples / experience about that?
