NoFollow Affiliate links from (very) shady websites will effect rankings?
-
Should I be worried , and if so what to do, if affiliates are linking from shady / gaming/adult websites?
or dost the fact that the links are nofollow solve this issue completely ?
-
No because, No Follow links is also needed as we create do Follow backlink
-
Some of these affiliates are our affiliates with highest revenue.
the website is totally unrelated but still converts (because of massive traffic volumes) -
If there is a no follow tag it would not matter. Google will ignore those links anyway if no follow tag is insert. If you feel not comfortable with it you can always use Google Search Console to disavow links like Nigel explained.

Hi Sagi
If you have a link from a completely unrelated website then I would politely ask them to remove it/them.
If you can't get it removed this way then add it to your disavow file.
Frankly, toxic links are damaging and they need to be dealt with.
If that was my affiliate it would quickly be an ex-affiliate. Warn them first - then take action.
I hope that helps,
Regards
Nigel

So let me ask it a bit differently:
If Google sees that most of your traffic (or at least a significant volume) is originated from adult websites, (while your website is legit , non adult)
would you not be worried?
(assuming it's all NF links) -
If they are linking with no follow tags to your site they will not harm you. No worries!

My website under a penalty how to recover from it
Hello Moz community I am running an amazon affiliate blog and from the last 8 months it was going great but 2 months before i noticed that un-natural and spammy chinese anchors links are getting indexed and they were getting indexed continuosely day by day. I thought there is no problem with that so few of my fellows said its not a big deal so i didn't take any action. Within few days my rankings dropped and keep dropping continuously and from featured snippet i moved to page 9th of google. Can anybody help me with how should i take steps to remove the penalty.I think that site is hit by penguin. My only page http://17oxen.com/best-external-hard-drives is affected and all the spammy links were indexed on this link all other remaining articles are not affecred as google said that they will penalize only the specific page not the whole domain. Guys i would like to know your recommendations and any kind of help. Thanks

Does Canonical Tag passes link juice to the original URL?
We are using Canonical tags at almost all the pages of our eCommerce website. We have various sorting options like "High to Low", "Best Sellers", etc., due to this page URLs get change with some dynamic URL parameters. To avoid duplicity, we are using canonical tag on each page which point to the original url. Also, we are using IBM Coremetrics to track traffic and conversions, but to measure referral traffic in Coremetrics, we have to add tracking parameters in the URL. So, while link building we need to share URLs with Coremetrics tracking parameters in the URL, but the canonical of this page is pointing to the original URL. Suppose we have a Page that needs to be shared with Coremetrics tag: domain.com/category-name/?cm_mmc=Referral_-xyz--izUPF8VmRng--3 This Page has the canonical tag pointing to the original url: domain.com/category-name/ My question is if the URL: domain.com/category-name?cm_mmc=Referral_-xyz--izUPF8VmRng--3 got shared on other websites, will it pass link juice to the original URL: domain.com/category-name.

Looking for a way to crawl and test validity of affiliate links at scale. Ideas?
Hey all, I'm on the hunt for a service that will crawl our affiliate links and let us know when they return an error. I need to know that the last URL in the chain is returning a 200 over thousands of pages and links on a continual basis. The hitch is that most crawlers like Screaming Frog will return all of our links as working because it's only testing the first step, and this really requires a cloud solution anyway. Anyone happen to know of something? Edit for clarity's sake: I need something to check entire redirect chains in bulk that isn't a Wordpress plugin, isn't a website where you plug in a URL and it cuts you off after the first 100 results, and has the ability to crawl the site and provide reporting on a continual basis. Tweeting affiliate links...?
I work in the music business & am published music producer. I'm an authority in my niche. Yada yada. I have a website that sells products to other music producers. I recently set up an affiliate partnership with someone who is also in the music business but on the management side. She is not an authority to my customers as far as music making goes. But she does have a huge following of people who are EXACTLY who I am targeting. She has been tweeting my affiliate links. The traffic has been great, but the purchase response has not been. I've had much better responses from reviewers and other music producers who have tweeted my links. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the most effective ways of tweeting affiliate links? Thanks!

Links from Blogs and Forums
Hello Everyone, We are a small, local business in a city in Canada. We just got a new website and I am responsible for basically all of it, including the SEO. I was researching the back-links from our top-ranking competitor (another small, local business in our city). Here is their ranking: PA 40, with 441 Links from 111 RDs DA 30, with 6,864 Links from 116 RDs Here is the second-highest guy: PA 29, with 101 Links from 10 RDs DA 15, with 1,682 Links from 11 RDs As you can see, the top-ranking competitor's PA & DA are just about double his closest competitor. (Don't ask where we currently stand!) But, on closer examination, most of the links from our top-ranking competitor come from a local blog, where our competitor's ad appears in an advertisement on the sidebar. Each time they make a post, which is just about every day, our competitor gets a link. They also have a lot of links from a forum on a rock band's website. The original post was something about finding music, but the responses all have links to unrelated websites. This seems really, really slimy to me. What's going on?

Redirect to Affiliate script via htacces - Is that risky?
Hi, We are offering an affiliate programme to publishers. The problem is that the links to the Affiliate Script are very user-UNfriendly (something like http://scripts.affiliateprogramme....../..../....) I would like to give them a simple url: www.website.com/PublishersPage And then redirect this via HTACCESS to the script link (which would then send them back to us). Would that be a problem for SEO? for Google? Thank you for your help.

SEO and Affiliate Links
Hello, We run a travel related website and we started to run our own affilate newtwork to promote the sales of our products. At the moment the affilate links pont to a spacific affilate url in order to tack conversions : abcweb.com/affiliate/nameqaz I'm wondering how is the best way to run a private affilate programm considering SEO: Is there a way yo benefit from those links ? What are the best strategies to do this? If yes, Is there any benefit from redirecting 301 those links to the original page (the one accesible to google and the one we want to rank for) or is it better to use a king of canonical method. Thanks a lot for sharing you experiences , giving your opinion and indicate resources. Best Regards Daria

Affiliate network options?
I'm looking, for an affiliate network solution, that can provide not only conversions through affiliate marketing alone, but also as linkbait. What kind of tools do we have available? i remember reading a SEOMoz Blog about the best SEO tools of 2010, and i saw some affiliate options there. Looking to hear SEO community opinions on options like this.
