Why rankings dropped from 2 page to 8th page and no penalization?
-
Dear Sirs, a client of mine for more than 7 years used to have his home page (www.egrecia.es) between 1st and 2nd page in the Google Serps and suddenly went down to 8 page. The keyword in question is "Viajes a Grecia".
It has a good link profile as we have built links in good newspapers from Spain, and according to Moz it has a 99% on-page optimization for that keyword, why why why ???
What could I do to solve this?
PD: It has more than 20 other keywords in 1st position, so why this one went so far down? Thank you in advance !
-
Yes I'm trying to even the anchor text. Too many links with the word Viajes a Grecia, but the thing is that you never know what percentage is correct... it's up to assumptions I guess.
-
True that, we use Kracken to optimize images. It's easy and not so expensive since I'm adding 100+ new images per month

You might be right about Anchor text over optimization, try to give it a shot. Also, the pagespeed isn't satisfactory, it should be in the 90s for Mobile and 85 plus for the desktop. No harm in trying to optimize the images and website overall speed. User experience is given a lot of weightage these days, who knows it might help.

Hey Thank you Vijay for taking the time to answer. Speed? Well if you actually surf the website, I think it's one of the fastest I've ever seen, it loads in less than a second, although Page Speed Insights says it has 74/100 mobile speed and 83/100 PC speed.
I really don't think it's a speed issue. I didn't want to say it but maybe it is an Anchor Text Over optimization. Have you ever seen a single url go down for that? I mean, the other urls are well ranked, the domain has more than 30 keywords in 1st position, but on the main one, Viajes a Grecia, we've never recovered so I thought that maybe I've created too many (35 aprox) links with that phrase (viajes a Grecia) as the anchor text.
So now Im trying to even the anchor text distribution as explained here: https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/anchor-text-distribution-avoiding-over-optimization
Thank you anyway and feel free to send me your thoughts !

Hi There,
Taking your word for link profile, I checked your website only. It seems to be scoring low on website speed performance(especially pointing towards the image optimization requirement), else everything looks perfect. The mobile version is scoring worse in terms of speed, and it needs to be fixed.
Since, the keyword being targeted looks like a High Competition keyword, you need to try to outperform your competition in every department.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Vijay

Page rank and menus
Hi, My client has a large website and has a navigation with main categories. However, they also have a hamburger type navigation in the top right. If you click it it opens to a massive menu with every category and page visible. Do you know if having a navigation like this bleeds page rank? So if all deep pages are visible from the hamburger navigation this means that page rank is not being conserved to the main categories. If you click a main category in the main navigation (not the hamburger) you can see the sub pages. I think this is the right structure but the client has installed this huge menu to make it easier for people to see what there is. From a technical SEO is this not bad?

Taken a canonical off a page to let it rank with new unique content - what more can I do?
A week ago, I took a canonical off of a page that was pointing to the homepage for a very big, generic search term for my brand as we felt that it could have been harming our rankings (as it wasn't a true canonical page). A week in and our rankings for the term have dropped 7 positions out of page 1 and the page we want to rank instead is nowhere to be seen. Do I hang fire? As such a big search term, it's affecting traffic, but I don't want to make any rash decisions. Here's a bit more info: For arguments sake, let's call the search term we're going after 'Boots', with the URL where the canonical was placed of /boots. The canonical went to the root domain as we sell, well... boots. At the time, the homepage was ranking for Boots on page 1 and we wanted to change this so that the Boots page ranked for that term... all logical right? We did the following: Took off mentions of Boots from meta on the homepage and made sure it was optimised for on the boots page. Took the canonical off of /boots. Used GSC to fetch & ask Google to recrawl "/boots". Resubmitted the sitemap. Do I hang fire on running back to the safety of ranking for boots on the homepage? Do I risk keyword cannibalisation by adding the search terms back to the homepage?

Why Would This Old Page Be Penalized?
Here's an old page on a trustworthy domain with no apparent negative SEO activity according to OSE and ahrefs: http://www.gptours.com/Monaco-Grand-Prix They went from page 1 to page 13 for "monaco grand prix" within about 4 weeks. Week 2 we pulled out all the duplicate content in the history section. When rank slipped further, we put it back. Yet it's still moving down, while other pages on the website are holding strong. Next steps will be to add some schema.org/Event microformats, but beyond that, do you have any ideas?

Why would my domain authority drop 2 points in the last week?
My domain authority went from 51 to 49 in the last week. I haven't done any shady link building or really changed anything on the site. It is an ecommerce site so there is new product always added and we also have a full content magazine, so new content is added every monday and tuesday. The only thing that has happened is a press release went out on PRweb about a collaboration we've done.

I try to apply best duplicate content practices, but my rankings drop!
Hey, An audit of a client's site revealed that due to their shopping cart, all their product pages were being duplicated. http://www.domain.com.au/digital-inverter-generator-3300w/ and http://www.domain.com.au/shop/digital-inverter-generator-3300w/ The easiest solution was to just block all /shop/ pages in Google Webmaster Tools (redirects were not an easy option). This was about 3 months ago, and in months 1 and 2 we undertook some great marketing (soft social book marking, updating the page content, flickr profiles with product images, product manuals onto slideshare etc). Rankings went up and so did traffic. In month 3, the changes in robots.txt finally hit and rankings decreased quite steadily over the last 3 weeks. Im so tempted to take off the robots restriction on the duplicate content.... I know I shouldnt but, it was working so well without it? Ideas, suggestions?

NOINDEX listing pages: Page 2, Page 3... etc?
Would it be beneficial to NOINDEX category listing pages except for the first page. For example on this site: http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/101/fsx-missions/ Has lots of pages such as Page 2, Page 3, Page 4... etc: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aflyawaysimulation.com+fsx+missions Would there be any SEO benefit of NOINDEX on these pages? Of course, FOLLOW is default, so links would still be followed and juice applied. Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.

What is the best choise for seasonal pages that rank after the season is over?
Hello and thank you for your attention. I am optimizing a travel website and I have a few problems. Every time I get a good rank for a particular keyword the owners take down the page because the offer is over. They also take down the category because the season is over. That is why I loose all the rankings. What is the best option in this cases and how should I guide the whole team that putts offers and new categories on the website? Would a Static sitemap be enough - I do not know what to do as moving a category from the main menu to a sitemap - another page on the website would result in loosing authority - and SERP. Thank you!
