Links>TopPages: Mostly image URLs: Good for SEO? Redirect obsolete ones??

Looking at my "Links > Top Pages" report shows the top fifteen being image URLs (jpg files). Weird or normal?
Clicking the "View Links" icon for a few of the image URL's shows that the best links in the list have DA in the 30's and 40's, and some PA in the 20's. But the linking sites have names that SOUND pretty crappy (from sites with names that sound weird or spammy)
QUESTION 1: Do links to image URLs... A) help the overall SEO of the site's HTML pages, B) only help the specific page the image appears on, C) or are they of no value to the regular pages?
QUESTION 2: What to do with the obsolete images? (images still hosted on our site, but do not appear on any pages) If I remove the images, the links will be lost. Which is good if the links are hurting us, but it would be bad for our SEO if the links are helping (unless we 301 the obsolete images to current ones)

I'm sorry that I didn't see it was you posting the question initially. All great questions and I'm looking forward to seeing the others respond. I would definitely keep the images and find ways to incorporate the older or obsolete images into new content on the website. If people are linking to them, they find them valuable.
Another option is to 301 redirect the image URL to the page and place the image on that page. You would then get the equity from the image link to the page.

Sure thing! They are mostly images we made for a Yard Drainage Guide we wrote years ago that used to be very popular.

And here is image #3 - https://www.easydigging.com/sitebuilder/images/drainage_22-600x386.jpg *MOZ is showing a Link Status of 403 (forbidden) for this and many other images. But not sure why since the images are easily viewed and appear in the drainage guide.

Fixing temporary redirects
Hi all, I recently had an issue whereby the Moz crawl was showing up thousands of instances of duplicate content. I solved (or so I thought) this issue on a Magento-based eCommerce website by enabling canonical URL tagging on product pages and category landing pages. This reduced the instances of duplicate content dramatically (by the thousands!) however it created a new issue of thousands of temporary redirects. All of the research I have done has suggested that I should be setting these as permanent redirects somehow, but I am not sure how to do this or how to resolve this issue. Does Google have a direct link with facebook and twitter?
Google monitor social media. What I'm wondering is do Google use the same tools we have on Facebook's API, Twitter's API etc to use in their SERPs Or do Facebook grant Google more detailed access to see who has liked links etc. I think it's quite an interesting point as surely I can push up my own count by repeatedly sharing my own links, which wouldn't be genuine. If Google had better access they could then determine what's been faked etc.

Conflict in reported link data
I have a competitor in a campaign - the campaign report shows 181 linked domains BUT - the site explorer report shows only 15 linked domains. Which is correct? Why am I not seeing an increase in external followed links?
Ive been getting some really good links pointing to my domain as of lately, and they appear to be followed links. yet the number of external followed links shown in my seomoz tool bar does not want to budge! nor do these links show up in site explorer! Is there a delay in the toolbars response-time? or could it be something else? Thanks
