Alt Tags for random in theme images, and images in css/flash
-
Hello,
At times a theme would include small images that are part of the design layout, but the images have links and also show up on moz bar, which means alt tags can be added. My question is should they be added?
Also sometimes the theme layout hides images in css or flash in those situations is there still a way to link alt tags to those images? For reference see faizlaw.com where the logo is hidden and the slider images.
Thanks Moz community,
V

I would go ahead and add the image alt tags
Here is a snippet from an SEOmoz answer I found.
SEOmoz data has found ALT text to carry a surprising amount of weight. If you don't abuse it, Google puts solid values on linked images and their ALT data.
Found here : SEOmoz article.
As for Flash, Google is getting better at reading Flash content. I am not sure if there is a way to do alt text but if so... I'd so it.

Alt Text for Interior Design / Architecture Firm
I'm looking to update the alt text on my company's website to increase traffic and qualified leads. I've done some research on my own, but the alt-text examples i find are really simple and pertain more to ecommerce (i.e. leather boat shoe). We're an archteicture and interior design firm so we sell our design services. One of our goals is to get more projects in florida. I understand the best way to do alt-text is to describe the photo in as much detail as possible. But would it also help to plug in our services? Here are some examples i've thought of (i've attached the photo i'm describing) 1. Bright and airy coastal modern Palm Beach living room with abstract statement lighting

Confused about repeated occurences of URL/essayorg/topic/ showing up as 404 errors in our site logs
Working on a Wordpress website, https://thedoctorwithin.comScanning the site’s 404 errors, I’m seeing a lot of searches for URL/essayorg/topic, coming from Bingbot, as well as other spiders (Google, OpensiteExlorer). We get at least 200 of these irrelevant requests per week. Seems like each topic that follows /essayorg/ is unique. Some include typos: /dissitation/Haven't done a verification to make sure the spiders are who they say they are, yet.Almost seems like there are many links ‘in the wild’ intended for Essay.Org that are being directed towards the site I’m working on.I've considered redirecting any requests for URL/essayorg/ to our sitemap… figuring that might encourage further spidering of actual site content. Is redirection to our sitemap xml file a good idea, or might doing so have unintended consequences? Interested in suggestions about why this might be occurring. Thank you.

Hidden H1 Tag on Image
Hi, In the page I'm working on, I encountered an tag in an image, rather than in a text form. Do you think it's an issue when it comes to SEO?

Website Redesign / Switching CMS / .aspx and .html extensions question
Hello everyone, We're currently preparing a website redesign for one of our important websites. It is our most important website, having good rankings and a lot of visitors from Search Engines, so we want to be really careful with the redesign. Our strategy is to keep as much in place as possible. At first, we are only changing the styling of the website, we will keep the content, the structure, and as much as URLs the same as possible. However, we are switching from a custom build CMS system which created URLs like www.homepage.com/default-en.aspx

No we would like to keep this URL the same , but our new CMS system does not support this kind of URLs. The same with for instance the URL: www.homepage.com/products.html
We're not able to recreate this URL in our new CMS. What would be the best strategy for SEO? Keep the URLs like this:
www.homepage.com/default-en
www.homepage.com/products Or doesn't it really matter, since Google we view these as completely different URLs? And, what would the impact of this changes in URLs be? Thanks a lot in advance! Best Regards, Jorg1 -
Speed benefits from loading images from a subdomain
I have read that loading images from a subdomain of your site instead of the main domain will give you speed benefits on load time. Has anyone actually seen that to be the case? Thanks!

Rebranding / Redirecting
Hi I have a client who wants to re-brand their shopify clothing store under new domain name. Whilst still a clothing store its going to have different department structure and product pages and will hence be a different store/site. Is there anyway to pass any of the history/authority of existing site to the new one such as 301 redirecting the top level pages of existing site to nearest equivalent pages of new site etc or best to just redirect the old site domain to the new ? Cheers Dan

Title tag keyword prioritizing
It's widely accepted that in title tags, the first word ranks the highest, and each word after that contributes less than the one before. So a page with the title "Philadelphia Parks" will rank higher than "Parks in Philadelphia" for Philadelphia, but the second page will rank higher for Parks. With this in mind, which keywords should I put first in the title tags of my product pages? Brand name? Product SKU? Is it better to prioritze general words with higher search volume (more impressions) or more specific terms with lower search volume (stronger long tail)? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

Images Reference Other Web Server
One of my real estate clients has a website that was built by a small web design company. In reviewing the website I've discovered that many of the images on the website (ie. banners, social networking icons, ect.) are not hosted on my clients server, but on the web developers server. Ex. src="http://www.[WebDevelopmentCompany].com/ubertor/[ClientsName]/properties_image.jpg" Will this funnel pagerank/link juice away from my client's website? This struck me as odd and it's not an issue I've come across before.
