Do keywords in a URL that's linkified provide anchor text benefits?
-
I'm curious about links that are just URLs (e.g. http://www.google.com/reader) or in a URL-like format (e.g. Google.com/Reader) vs links with plain-word anchor text (e.g. Google Reader).
If a link that is just a URL (or a partial URL) has keywords in it, do those keywords provide anchor text relevance benefits?
I'm particularly thinking about URL shorteners that provide customized links, and social media. Many web tools (twitter, blog comment systems) don't render HTML but will automatically link URLs. If http://boston.craigslist.org/jjj/ gets linked to through custom shortened URLs like http://bit.ly/Boston-Jobs, is it more likely to rank for the term "Boston Jobs" than if it received the same number of links using a non-custom shortened URL like http://bit.ly/ejq5uX9?

I'm aware redirected links won't provide as much benefit as direct links -- I'm looking purely at relevance benefits from the anchor text. Shortened URLs seem like a good case because it separates the on-site benefit of having the keyword in the URL from the off-site benefit of being linked to with a URL that has the keyword in it.
The question that really sums it up (editing the main question to reflect it) is: If http://boston.craigslist.org/jjj/... gets linked to through custom shortened URLs like http://bit.ly/Boston-Jobs, is it more likely to rank for the term "Boston Jobs" than if it received the same number of links using a non-custom shortened URL like http://bit.ly/ejq5uX9 ?

You are in reality talking about two different kind of situations.
In the first one (URL used as anchor text), yes, if the URL is keyword optimized, then it will work also as partial keyword matching anchor text. That is one of the reasons why us SEOs always preach for SEF URLs and suggesting to use the primary keyword while crafting the URLs.
In the second case (shortened URLs), remember that those kind of URLs are 301 to the real one, therefore we can suppose that can work still as partial matching anchor text, but surely they are loosing some of their power because of the redirection.

YouTube Listing Videos That We Didn't Upload
Our Company has recently started doing videos on installation and product features. As we were going through our Google YouTube Analytic, we noticed there are random letters and numbers that are coming up as a video (example:YsQgAQPykMI), although it is not a link. _Where we are finding this information: Google YouTube Analytic under the Comment section. The bottom section will list the videos that the channel has uploaded and its respective link. _ 1. What and why is YouTube pulling this information? 2. How can I remove this from our listing? 3. What are future measures we can take to prevent this from happening again? Unfortunately, I'm not able to upload an image to show you exactly what the issue is. Thanks for your help, Tamara HzS9DYi

301 redirect for blog post URL change
I'm thinking about changing the URL for a new blog post that I have already promoted off-site today. I overlooked a detail and am gently kicking myself. I can't determine if it's worth any negative issues that adjusting it might create vs the value of having a more "perfect" URL. Would it be OK to do this by applying a 301 redirect to the page? Would this be the right thing to do or is there some other way? Thanks!!

Facebook 'SEO', Likes and Fans
I spent a bit of time this morning combing Google looking for some documentation on SEO for Facebook, specifically the value of 'likes', when liking one's status, how that effects the visibility of a given post and basically the criteria for creating whatever they deem a post to have gone 'viral'. I'm convinced there has to be some answers for my first two questions... ....somewhere. Likewise, I can appreciate if there's nothing available to answer my third question pertaining to 'viral criteria'. Nevertheless, if anyone has any resources/documentation that could provide me some insight into how FB interprets 'likes', how an increased number of 'likes' may lead to greater visibility and (more or less) the mechanics of how this interacts with the entire Facebook structure, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading, I look forward to the responses!

Is it ok to have 'Authors' that write content for multiple sites even if in the same industry?
Hi all, I have a client that has 2 websites (different brands) in the same industry. I have encouraged them to become authors when writing content for each respective website and hook up their Google+ profile to the posts. Is this detrimental for SEO if they are writing for both sites? Or is it in fact a positive thing? Looking forward to your thoughts on this!! Thanks, Elias

How to Search Twitter Bios for URLs?
Hi Mozzers, Quick question, Does anyone know of a tool that can search Twitter bios for a URL then match the URL to the asscoiated twitter handle? For example, my twitter handle is @rosstav and the URL in my bio is rosstavendale(dot)com. I want a tool that searches bios for a list of URLs and returns the twitter handle. I tried Followerwonk but no joy. Any thoughts?
