Trackbacks and pingbacks
-
In seomoz pro campaign it is coming up with an error saying that all my trackbacks on my clients blog are 302 and badish. Should I disable trackbacks and pingbacks to avoid this warning or will it hurt my seo?
-
I think that is a wise choice. If you later decide to add that type of social sharing to your site, I have had good experiences with AddThis.

Hey Ryan,
Thanks again for your help. This appears to be a WP Plugin called "AddtoAny" which is a Social Sharing Plugin with links to all the networks for sharing. I have never really liked this plugin so I'm disabling it and going to set up the newest tweet like and +1 buttons.
Again,
Thanks.

Your facebook iframe is clearly visible in the source code. It contains about a dozen links which, due to the manner in which the iframe is presented, are not visible to crawlers. The facebook iframe is also clearly identified. I have no concerns about the Like box.
The issue I am referring to concerns an additional iframe which appears at the top of the page code. The iframe is called "a2apage" which I can only guess refers to a name provided by the code developer. It seems to offer links to over 100 social sites such as facebook, windows live, sphinn and many others.

The iframe in question would be the Facebook Like Box. The the links are to the peoples profiles it seems. I believe this to be pretty harmless.
Thanks for the information about the 302's and wordpress.

I would also like to add there is a serious concern with your site which should be addressed. Your home page shows 237 internal links. The overwhelming majority of those links are not visible to users.
The specific URL you referenced above shows 56 internal followed links, and 128 internal nofollow links on the page. The nofollow links are all hidden and don't seem to offer any value to your site nor it's visitors. These links are potentially a huge waste of your PR.
I recommend you remove any link from a page which is not visible, and ensure all links are helpful to users.
I would like to extend thanks to Nick from the SEOmoz help desk for pointing out these links were hidden in an iframe. I normally view HTML code using View Page Source which did not show the iframe. By using FireBug Nick was able to show me the nofollow links which were hidden, and taught me another trick to discover hidden links.

It seems WP uses a 302 by default. An article which can help: http://yoast.com/google-wordpress-and-trackback-urls/

http://cadenlane.com/blog/2010/03/16/caden-lane-big-kid-rooms/trackback/ redirects to http://cadenlane.com/blog/2010/03/16/caden-lane-big-kid-rooms/
It seems that the WP Blog is automatically creating these 302's as I haven't configured this.
-
302s are designed as temporary redirects. Prior to adding a 302 to your site, ask yourself how many hours will the 302 be in place. While there is not any exact answer, I can't think of a reason to use a 302 which will be in place for 30+ days.
(This is a perfect opportunity for someone to share a corner case of an example where it was appropriate ^^)
I wouldn't recommend disabling pingbacks and trackbacks. There are a meaningful tool. I am not clear of the purpose of your use of the redirect in this case. Can you share an example URL from your site which uses this method?

Unsolved Should I combine pages?
Hi, Im not sure of the correct route to take here... We are a training provider and I manage the website. The main course offered is the transport manager CPC. Currently, I have a "catch all" landing page which links to each different course option: Landing page > Classroom Online Self study Distance learning The main keyword revolves around "transport manager cpc" I want searchers to land on the online page is they search "online transport manager CPC" for example but I think its confusing Google. I'm wondering if I should de-index the store pages (although some perform very well) and increase the content on the main landing page to rank for every related keyword on that page. Initially, I wanted to devalue the landing page in favor of the store pages but I'm unsure if that's the right way to go. I've stripped out the bulk of the keywords and content and shifted it to each individual page. but as above, Im now unsure if that's the right route to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👍 Thanks

Content hubs vs blog
Hey all! I work for a large healthcare company. We're in the planning stages of redesigning our website, and the question came up of whether we needed to continue with the patient-focused blog at all when we could simply incorporate the blog articles into the service lines they best fit with (i.e. an article about feeding babies solid good would go under the pediatrics section of the website instead of the pediatrics section of the blog).Anybody have an opinion/insight on whether the articles would get better rankings being dispersed to the services sections of the website instead of concentrated on a blog? Or would good internal linking make the whole question moot? Thanks!

Is using a H1 tag in a logo image bad for SEO?
We have brand logos on certain pages that have H1 tags in them - the H1 text being the brand's name, as this is what we'd want the title of the page to be. The logos are at the top of the page instead of a written title. But is this the best option for SEO? Do search engines value H1 tags in images as highly as a standard H1 tag?Would it be better for SEO to add an alt tag to the logo and add a separate H1 tag on the page that's also the name of the brand?

Brand name in title?
Hi all, I have noticed that a lot of companies put there brand/company name at the end of their page title. To me, that seems like a huge sacrifice of your limited 60 characters. Wouldn't it be better to use characters for words that people might actually be searching for?

Downsides on shortening article title?
Hi there, I'm new to Moz: great tool so far! I just tried the page optimization feature and see that (for instance for this article) page titles are often too long. Now it's tempting to just shorten the title straight away, but I have a memory of someone once telling me changing the title will change the URL. And changing the URL is something not appreciated by Google. Could someone please explain if and why this is/isn't the case? And if there are any downsides/things to consider before changing the article's title? Thank you in advance!

Is my domain holding me back in the SERPS?
Even after a good year or so, my site intensivedrivingschoolmiltonkeynes.co.uk does not rank in the top 10 (google.co.uk) for "Intensive Driving School Milton Keynes", and is nowhere for "Driving School Milton Keynes". Do you think the domain name is being penalised, or do you think there are other factors that contribute to the poor performance.

Comment Links and Pingbacks
I'm updating articles on a large site, some have links in the comments (WP site). The question is: 1. Should I remove the links in the comments, or does Google even care? 2. How do pingbacks affect ranking?

Meta descriptions
Whats the deal with the date at the start of the meta descriptions? I have not really looked into this but I'm guessing its a blog thing? Take this search http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=6packproject#hl=en&xhr=t&q=interview+with+paul+knight&cp=26&pf=p&sclient=psy&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=interview+with+paul+knight&pbx=1&fp=835cd241c8d51fff The beautifully crafted meta description is now being cut short even though its within the character limit and is now only showing 36 characters! Is there a way to remove this? Thanks in advance
