Does anyone know if a large forum can impact your seo rating on specific terms?

I have a large forum and I'm trying to figure out how to leverage it for SEO. Hopefully it'll help. Any advice? Does google ignore forums?

If you are looking for building links via forums you need to do the following:

Make a name for yourself on the forum by helping out users.

Post a fair bit on the forum

Make sure the forum is related or semi related.

Look for chances to place links but make sure it is a do-follow forum.
Don't get me wrong a lot of forums are junk but you can find forums which are highly authority and related they are beneficial not only for link building but traffic/lead gen.

I agree with Ryan... but also think that a forum can impact your SEO if you allow members to run wild.
If you allow them to stuff it full of crap links to bad neighborhoods, allow the bot spammers to hammer it and allow unintelligent eight word posts.. then don't be surprised if your site gets a rankings reduction.

From Google's perspective, web pages are treated equally. Whether the page is a static site, forum, blog article, e-commerce page, etc. it is all content.
A forum site can earn top rankings on competitive key words. Some forum threads are very authoritative and earn many links. In actuality, this Q&A section is a forum. Your question is the original post which began the thread. My reply is an additional post in the thread.
It is common to see forum threads at the top of Google rankings, especially for various troubleshooting issues where discussions and answers are provided.
With respect to using a forum for SEO, a lot depends on your forum software. Many forum software solutions are not SEO friendly. There is a lot of work involved managing the forums to keep the site on topic, remove spam, etc.

Disqus and SEO
It seems Disqus commenting system has grown and evolved so to make it easier to comment I've installed it on my 14 sites. I find moderation becomes much easier. Is Disqus SEO friendly and a part of an SEO process? (I checked the topic and only found one's dated back to 2011). Thanks, Don

SEO impact on archives and mirror services?
Hi, We're looking at setting up an email archive site for certain lists related to our niche. We've been considering using archives.ourdomain.com versus ourdomain.com/archives. Part of the problem is that while the archives won't initially have huge amounts of content, over time it'll outstrip the amount of content we produce and I was worried about whether or not this would cause a duplicate content penalty as the emails will also be archived elsewhere. If the volume of mails over time combined with duplication penalties are going to penalise the site, I'd rather we used a subdomain or a separate domain. If not, then subdomains might be the way to go.

Is joomla better than wordpress let me know your thoughts
Hi, i am wondering if wordpress is better than joomla. We have been having a talk and been wondering if our main site www.in2town.co.uk should stay in joomla or if we should think about moving it over to wordpress. I would like to hear what people think, if wordpress is better than joomla for a magazine or if we should stick with joomla and forget about moving over to wordpress. It would be great to hear people's opinion and maybe some examples of popular magazines or newspaper sites that are using wordpress instead of joomla. Does anyone know of a great inexpensive article writing company overseas?
Hello, I'm hoping someone here has used or knows about a content writing company overseas that is very good. We would provide a lot of the information, and they would gather the rest by internet or talking with manufacturers by skype. We need at least 200 articles written, and we're on a tight budget. The articles need to be unique content, and very helpful to users. The people or person I hire will provide the articles in Microsoft Word, I'll do the rest. So far I've posted on Elance. Can you help me with my options on publishing others' news releases on my site?
I wish to add a "News" section to a highly-read, highly ranked blog I have. The News pieces will not be in the same flow as my regular posts. I'm contemplating what the best way to do this is, and would like some advice, please. I see these options: Option 1. Pay textbroker type people to rewrite news releases and post them into the news flow. Pro: indexable content. Con: expense. Option 2: Have a Submit News form on the site for vendors to submit their news stories. I would have to ask them to rewrite their stories to avoid dup content. Pros: Easy for me, no cost. Cons: Will still get dup content I bet, a lot of companies won't take the time to do it, and I will have no control over quality. (I really doubt this option will work). Option 3: Post news releases from companies in their raw format, and mark them as no index (even if I don't noindex, they won't move up the SERPs anyway, so why not just noindex them). Pros: very easy, all the news I want. Cons: not creating any indexable content. Bonus question: If I do Option #3, and I place an adsense ad on the page, will it work the same as if it was an indexed, non-duplicate content page? Your thoughts?
