RE: How to handle blank, auto generated system pages/urls
First, do not 404 them, use a 410 error code instead as that denotes intended permanent deletion. In addition, I would also block the files/folder in robots.txt. Finally, I would use Google Search Console to remove these URLs. Good luck.

RE: Top Pages are all 301
My favorite redirect tool is http://www.redirect-checker.org/. I find that is provides lots of little details that other redirect tools don't always provide.

RE: How to remove 404 pages wordpress
404's are a natural part of websites, Google understands that. As long as you don't have links to pages on your site that are 404'ing you're fine. So basically, just make sure your website is not the source of your 404's.

RE: Is it okay for my H3 Tag to appear above my H2 Tag on the Web Page
No problem, don't worry about that. Just try to have the H1 with the main keyword phrase and H2 with the secondary if possible. Someone ask Cutts this question a while back and he said Google understands.

RE: Proper sitemap update frequency
Agreed, I don't see any issue with it, if you have more urls submit them if you can.

RE: How on Earth are These Sites Outranking Us?
The page is not well optimized for "boiler hire" is mostly what is comes down to.

RE: Redirecting a single page on a separate domain to a new site?
I would make prominent linking to the new site on that landing page. Then you have a chance of getting two first page rankings for the keyword search since you have one site dedicated to that product and also an established landing page optimized as well.

RE: Longevity of robot.txt files on Google rankings
If they were paying attention to WMT they would have seen a "critical" message that the site was blocked right away. Forcing a crawl (crawl all urls) should result in the site getting indexed extremely quickly. Rankings should return to where they were before.

RE: Is it ok for a web design company to have a branded footer link on their client's sites?
a) If i was the owner of the site i wouldn't want to leak PR on every page even if i did like the work that was done
b) If i was the website company i wouldn't want sitewide footer links on sites which make it look like I am paying for sponsored themes
c) if the links are nofollowed, both parties lose, PR is still leaked from the owners site and benefit is not gained for the website company
I think the best solution is a dofollow homepage ONLY footer link. This is the highest PR page, usually the most traffic so good visibility for advertising, you're not creating tons of sitewide links with identical anchor texts, and the owner is only leaking some PR on their homepage.

RE: If Links not in GWT does that mean they havent been Indexed yet?
That is an incorrect assumption. Not all backlinks surface in GWT right away or ever. You can check to see if Google has indexed the pages that have the backlinks by finding those pages in the Google index and checking the Google cache date.

RE: Basic URL Structure Question
1. The value of the Keyword reduces with each character. The first character has highest value and the last the lowest. where did you hear that? the file name is more important than the folder name for SEO
2. Google only counts the first mention of a Keyword and the 2nd mention of Toga doesn't add any value. Agree, more than one instance is stuffing. This is exponentially true when you create URLs that have a keyword mentioned twice in the URL, and then if the page is linking several times to these sections you create too high of a keyword density. Google prefers less and doesn't want keywords shoved down their throat.
3. Plus Google only displays 35 characters of the URL so one should aim to keep the total length of the URL below 35 chars. I respectfully disagree, just because Google only shows 35 characters in the display doesn't mean they disregard the keywords in the remainder of the URL - they are just doing that to keep the display looking clean - 35 characters is nothing. Most blogs go WAY over that with autogenerated filenames, it's all a matter of making sure you don't keyword stuff.

RE: Subdomain for every us state?
subfolders are better than subdomains, it's all under one site instead of 59 (according to obama) individual subdomains.
that was an old school strategy when Google really gave push to having the keywords in the domain name and spammers took advantage of it to rank better by creating subdomains for each keyword phrase

how about giving Ryan some thumbs up and answered status for all that work and time he put into helping you out

RE: Sub directory vs sub domain for company blog
The extra effort required to create a blog under the domain rather than the subdomain is worth it. subdomains are created by the web team when they are looking for the easiest solution and not taking SEO into account.
Creating a blog on the main domains is widely agreed in the SEO community as being the best option. You are creating additional content and interlinking on your site plus if the blog is link worthy you are getting good PR passed to your main site instead of off to a subdomain.

RE: Footer Links And Link Juice
No this won't work. it's called pagerank sculpting and used to work but Google fixed that a couple of years ago by making the nofollow counts as a link and instead all you are doing is throwing away your page juice.

What to do when I attain seoMoz Guru status
With just a few more thumbs up, I will become the 18th SeoMozzer to reach Guru status at 2,000 points and I will earn the coveted mozBot Guru Trophy. I really love the seoMoz user community, it's awe inspiring on the amount of free information that is dispensed. Kudo's to all.
I am thinking of taking a little break in the action on the Q&A and to shift my activity to blog writing. As an aside, I am not too happy about the removal of the private Q&A. Not everyone is comfortable on openly sharing their SEO wrongdoings.

RE: Concerned about where links are coming from
