Hi  im in the process of giving my site  a major update as its  only one page and not responsive .

The the new site will have a homepage with a list of my services with a small description of each and each service  will link to its own page.

My one page site at the moment ranks number one in my area for a  low competition keyword (moz keyword score of 13%) of course this sends me very little traffic. With my new site im also going  for  more keywords but these will be Moz KWD 30% and 40%.

I know this will be quite hard and take some time but  i'm pretty sure I know what I need to do to get there.

Now my question is what do i do with my current home page (only page)  that ranks for that low comp keyword?
I dont want to lose my rank for that, so do i make a new page on my new site that is optimized for that keyword, but then I don't want to 301 my homepage to that so I guess as its such an easy word to rank for my new page would soon rank for that?

What are your thoughts and advice please, thanks in advance.

great thanks very informative reply, i've started using wordpress for most of my sites now, is siloing easy enough to do in wordpress?

Hi ive heard silos being mentioned in the past to help with rankings does this still apply?

and what about breadcrumbs do i use them with the silo technique or instead of which ones do you think are better or should i not be using these anymore with the recent google updates?

to my .htaccess file in the root of my domain and it seems to be working

but am stuck on step 2, i'm getting the following error:

2 Confirm that 301-redirects work properly

Hi i managing a site that has 3 main services its a hotel, a restaurant and a brewery.

It has the word brewery in the name and URL and has for years primarily pushed the brewery side and that is doing well its has a good DA and lots of links point back to its home page.

Now the problem is it doesn't rank very well for the term hotel or restaurant, theres only 2 referring domains links pointing to its hotel page.

All its hotel citations point to the homepage (which is mainly optimised for the keyword brewery) should i update the citations to point to the hotel page which has been optimised for the search term hotel? or should I leave those and just create new citation pointing to the hotel page.

Should i right a few blog posts about the businesses hotel and link them to the hotels page?

and then I also then do the same for restaurant?

I hope i've explained myself well and would appreciate the advice

Sorry I forgot to mention the client has all their printed material letterheads, business cards etc and links pointing to the .com, but google has decided to serp the .co.uk if i change everyting  to the .com should that then serp the .com to the top?

Or should i just stick to the .co.uk as I guess that doesnt matter to much as the 301 will just redirect.

Does google favour .co.uk listings in local uk results?

Hi im not sure what the best course of action is my client has one site but it has 2 TLD the .co.uk and the .com they wanted all .co.uk redirected to the .com but the .co.uk is ranking in the serps postion 2 and the .com is ranking in local, but is way back in the serps. So i have a bit of a dilemma, by the way it is a local business based in the uk.

what should i do?
