Ahh I see thanks so much for your reply - is it best to get an XML site map rather than the one I have?
Thanks, Abi

Hi everyone
I have setup a site map using a Wordpress pluggin: http://lockcity.co.uk/site-map/
Can you please tell me if this is sufficient for the search engines? I am trying to understand the difference between this and having a robots.txt - or do I need both?
Many thanks, Abi
Hi everyone
As per previous posts, we are in the process of setting up a new sideline to the business and after taking great advice from you guys, we have bought a new domain - which is fuelsos.co.uk -
To save on hosting fees, I have created a subdirectory on our main site at http://lockcity.co.uk/fuelsos/ which is in the process of being mapped to fuelsos.co.uk (will take affect in next 24hrs)
My question is, am I leaking link juice from my main site doing this? or should I look at buying seperate hosting?
Many thanks, Abi
Just another thought if you dont mind pls .... although the new service is not connected to locks and keys, its still a roadside recovery service as is our existing auto locksmith service - so there is a slight connection in that we offer a emergency roadside service -
Bearing this in mind I think you are right in that a new site is best. In addition to a new site, does it make sense to have a landing page for the new service on the lockcity web site for google searches, but not have it linked into the menu? i.e. lock city customers cannot see the new page from the menu, but if people land on the new page through the search engines, they can still navigate around the locksmith site?
Thanks, Abi
Thanks, I will change slightly, although wordpress is not visually displaying the H1 on the homepage - its hidden text - very strange!
Thanks for all your help!
Thank you for your helpful advice. Abi
Hi, we are currently exploring a new business sideline to our normal business (we are an emergency property & auto locksmith service). Our site has been established since 2005 (ish) - lockcity.co.uk
The new sideline will also be another roadside emergency service but has nothing to do with keys/locks. In our marketing, we will be explaining that our new service is a trademark of Lock City, which will help customers understand why a Lock City van will be arriving.
It doesn't make sense for us to have another page on the lock city web site to advertise this service, so wondered if you can recommend if I make a sub domain or create a new site?
I understand that I am starting again with a new site, so the subdomain seems more favourable at the moment - but will this leak link juice from our existing business?
Looking forward to some expert advice! Many thanks
Regards, Abi
Ahhhh I see - thanks so much. So Wordpress handles the home page differently to the subsequent pages ...
On the homepage it uses the "title of the site" as the H1 - which I just called 'Lock City' in the setup. Then it uses the page title as the H2 (which I thought was the H1)
On subsequent pages, it uses the page title as the H1 (great!)
So to get around the homepage problem, I have changed my site name to :
As this is hidden code, can I use the same text for my h2 of this page, or does it need to be unique?
Hope Im making sense! Thanks for your advice again!
Thanks very much Richard, I think I understand what you mean - can I pls ask you to take a final look at the page please?
Wordpress uses the title page of the document as H1 on subsequent pages but on the home page uses it as an H2 - very strange!
To avoid this, I have left the page title blank on the homepage and then manually entered an H1 in the body.
Really appreciate your help! Am I there now?
Many thanks, Abi
Thanks again Nigel - its funny as I had this conversation with Wordpress support - they told me not to worry about defining a H1 as wordpress already took care of this in the page title, but you are right, its generated as an H2, bearing this in mind, what do you think of this approach:
Welcome To Lock City! (Wordpress generates h2 from page title)
Expert Locksmiths Covering Bristol | Bath | South Gloucs | North Somerset |
West Wiltshire. (manually add h1)
Our Expert Locksmiths Can Be With You Within 1hr! (manually add another h2)
I have updated my home page (not sub pages) with this approach for you to see this in action.

Looks like your connection to Moz was lost, please wait while we try to reconnect.
