Hi,

I have a recurring issue that I can't find a reason for.

I have a website that has over 7k backlinks that I monitor quite closely.  Each month there are additional links on third party forums that have no relevance to the site or subject matter that are as a result toxic.

Our clients site is a training site yet these links are appearing on third party sites like http://das-forum-der-musik.de/mineforum/ and have anchor text with "UGG boots for sale" to pages on our url listed as /mensuggboots.html that obviously don't exist.

Each month, I try to contact the site owners and then I add them to Google using the disavow tool.  Two months later they are gone and then are replaced with new backlinks on a number of different forum websites.  Quite random but always relating to UGG boots.

There are at least 100 extra links each month.  Can anyone suggest why this is happening?  Has anyone seen this kind of activity before?  Is it possibly black hat SEO being performed by a competitor?  I just don't understand why our URL is listed.  To be fair, there are other websites linked to using the same terms that aren't ours and are also of a different theme so I don't understand what the "spammer" is trying to achieve.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brett,

With content being more important now I appreciate DMOZ was a dying breed.  I also became frustrated with the lack of response from some of the editors - not much point in a human edited directory if it takes months to edit parts of it.  I should have thought about it but I just expected it to last a bit longer.

I can see what you mean regarding Machine learning.  I bought echo a few months back (mainly because Google Home isn't available in UK yet) but even with their AI you can see how search is becoming more intuitive. It's an obvious advancement and one that has far greater benefit in todays society.

So it appears AOL have pulled the plug on DMOZ.  The reason why? - I suspect a financial decision somewhere along the road but personally I think it still had something to offer.   I realise there are mirrored versions of it online still (for how long - and for what reason - not much link juice in that) but to pull the plug on one of the oldest and most trusted directories is, well, rather final.

Amongst the rubble that litters the web - the endless paid entry directories and the self proclaimed ultimate listing portals I at least felt there was someone else out there (human) validating my submissions - even if it took some time to find my newest sites online.  We all know that links need to be adequately sourced but it was a resource I always began with on the quest in achieving ranking greatness.

Which begs the question - was it still as popular in the last couple of years or have I been chasing my own tail?
Will it be replaced?  Or have even human edited directories had their day?

I'd be interested to hear what others think.

Hi,
I've looked at Moz Local as it now seems to include UK based submissions.
It looks great.  However as I have a number of customers that would benefit from the service I wanted to know if MOZ lets you submit numerous businesses or is it just for the business that you have your account with.

I really want to use the service for customers but I'm not sure whether its just a single company with the possibility of multiple addresses or if its multiple businesses.

Over 10 pages of google indexed pages I mean. Not 10. The site listed in WMT is the .ie one. I've never submitted, referenced or mentioned the .co.uk version for anything, it's always just been a redirect, so I can't understand why google has started using that one instead.

Hi andy. On google.ie I'm getting over 10 pages plus listed. If I try the same on the uk version ( site:ie) I get the same results. If I try site and allinurl for domain.co.uk I get one page listed. I've gone on to webmaster tools in google and the domain geotag location is listed as Ireland, which I'd expect as its .ie. Is this the problem?

The site is .ie but is hosted by us in the uk.  The reason I'm asking about indexing, is that there are 3600 pages indexed for the .ie version of the site, but if I do the same (using site:) for the .co.uk version it shows 4.  Which I think is the issue.  Its as if Google overnight has decided because I'm in the UK and doing a search, it will only display the .co.uk version and nothing relating to the .ie version.

We have a website that for years has attracted a high level of organic searches and had a very high level of links.  It has the .ie extension (Ireland) and did very well when competing in the niche market it is in on google.co.uk.  We have the same domain name but in .co.uk format and basically redirected traffic to it when people typed in .co.uk instead.  Since the latest panda update, we have noticed that the number of visits organically has dropped to a quarter of what it was and this is continuing to go down.  We have also noticed that the .ie version is no longer listed in google and has been replaced by .co.uk.  As we've never exchanged or submitted links for the .co.uk domain this means there are only links indexed in google.

Is there any way I can get google to re-index the site using the .ie domain rather than the .co.uk domain?  I am hemorrhaging sales now and becoming a much more withdrawn person by the day!!!

PS - the .co.uk domain is set up as a domain alias in plesk with both .ie and .co.uk domain dns pointing to the the same IP address.

Hi.

This is my first question here guys and gals so please be gentle.  We are creating a town based website that will hold news, events, articles and relevant local content.  We are also creating a business directory that will be part of this.

My question relates to an issue we have regarding how the directory will be treated as part of the "network".  Although we aren't 100% sure on the domain name yet, we want the directory to be found as easily as the domain itself.  Even better, if the two could be treated seperately but strengthen the overall theme for the domain we'd be in keyword heaven.

Therefore in your opinion (hopefully with pro's and con's) which do you think will rank better in Google, Yahoo and Bing (or all three);
The directory seperate as a subdomain or as a folder within the main domain?

So for example - providing we are including links between the two sections and the site is www.sitetown.com

Which is better for the directory itself?

1. http://www.sitetown.com/directory

2. http://directory.sitetown.com

   or you're mad Steve, use a seperate domain altogether

3. www.sitetowndirectory.com

I hope you can help, obi-wan, you're my only hope.....
