Linking Value of a Page
-
Is it worth the effort trying to secure a link if the site has high domain authority but the page I want to link to me has page authority of 1?
-
if it is a dofollow link and it is free then go ahead and get it. It does help a bit, not much. If it is a nofollow then it does not help with pagerank but the anchor text of the link still counts. So if you want to rank for idaho potatos, even a nofollow link with idaho potatos in it counts a bit. Dofollow counts for pagerank as well.

One trick you can use to check how long it's been indexed is to do a search with
site:www.nameofdomain.com/exect-page-url.html
Then on the left use the search tool custom date range (show search tools > Custom range...).
Start checking dates in a patterned way. You can diecide how you want to start this off, if you have a best guess etc., but basically something like:
Select Jan 1st 2000 and Today. Does it show up? Sure it does, so roll the later date field back to the 1st of two months ago. Still there? ...Repeat this until you see it disapear form the results, then your close. Narrow the dates within that month.

Hi Wayne,
Although quite grey hat the technique of 'profile linking' proves this to be true. I have seen my client sites climbing the rankings linking to sites of page rank 3,4,5 sites yet the actual page the links is on has pr 0.
Obviously we all want that home page link but I feel inner pages have just as much as value as root domains. Obviously look at the page your linking from in terms of relevance, number of links etc, but I would recommend you go for it.
Kind Regards
Neil

You can check on the Wayback Machine http://web.archive.org/web/, to give you a general idea at least, but it does not have an archive of all sub pages. But if it is in there, you know how old it is at least. Anyone knows of other tools to check page age (not domain age)?
-
Thanks, good to know. How can I check the age of the page?
-
Yes. I would say that domain authority is a better ranking factor than page authority and as long as the domain authority is suitably high then go for it. The only exception I would make to this is maybe if the page in question was for some reason particularly spammy, but with a high DA site, this shouldn't be the case....
Say I manage to get a link on the bbc's website. Whether the page with the link was a couple of sub pages deep and brand new doesn't really matter. It's still a cracking link as it's from a highly trusted domain.
-
I would agree with Manischa - also, look at the age of the page itself, if it is new it will naturally have a low score that should pick up in time anyway. Relevancy though as always is the key.
-
If the topic of the page is relevant to your website: yes, definitely. Of course, search engines should be able to access the page, and it should not be buried very low in their site structure.

'Too many links' on our pages.
This figure includes links that sit within our navigational menus. Is there a way to block this somehow so that Google and Moz do not read them as 'internal links'? Thanks in advance.

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

Would you delete the links page ?
I have noticed that more and more of my competitors are removing the links page from their sites. Either that or they are hiding them. I suppose it makes sense because all the links on my page http://www.kerryblu.co.uk/links-7-w.asp are just links to sites that are linking to me. Supposedly there is no worth in this but I'm just worried that I will lose a lot of links if I delete this page and this may effect my currently crappy rankings for the worse. What do you think? Keep the links page or delete it ?

2 links going to same domain but different pages
Hi, How is the link juice distributed when you have 2 links in the same article but they go to different pages on the same domain? I know some say if 2 links go to the same page in an article then only the first link passes juice. Would it be better to have 2 articles each having 1 link or 2 articles each having 2 links?

Too many external links vs linking root domains - good or bad?
Hi guys, After the latest Linkscape update, we noticed that our website have 424,671 external links with 4,395 linking root domains, so roughly 100 links/domain. Does Google consider this to be a negative thing or we do not need to worry about it. Many thanks. David

Many competitor's backlinks are in content anchor links. Ho do I get these same links?
Hi I managed to open up OSE. I'm finding that much of the competition's backlinks are in content anchor text links. Am I supposed to get backlinks from these same pages using the same anchor text but linking back to my page or is that allowed? If so, how do I get these in content blog post links? Thanks. Sunil.

Panda Update: Isn't a link still a link?
I was doing some link building and some SEO's said that the Panda update affected many websites. I am going to use eZineArticles.com as my example. EzineArticles was affected by the Panda update and does not show up in the SERPs as much as before. But they still have doFollow Links coming from the articles I am submitting. QUESTION: Regardless if EzineArticles was affected by the Panda Update, isn't a "Follow Link" still a "Follow Link" OR am I completely wasting my time on this devalued website? Edit: Yes I know a PR 0 page is not as valuable as a PR 9 page. I am asking from the standpoint of the affected Panda Update domains overall.
