Social Media For Doctors Office Help!

I have a client that I am doing web-work for...I recommended for him to claim his Facebook Place page as well as create a twitter account. He's a little skeptical and doesn't think that a doctors office needs a Facebook and twitter page. I strongly disagree with him and would like to show him some facts. Has anyone ever done social media for a doctors office before or know where I can get some good information?

why not do a search on facebook and other web 2.0 media websites find pages from other doctor's offices or even similiar "professional" professions like laywers ,accountants etc. and show him those pages as examples. These pages do not have to be local doctors, lawyers. They can be from anywhere - even thousands of miles away. Show him what others are doing.

At a bare minimum this is a "Brand Grab" issue. As some people have mentioned here already, you want to have your name, and you want to get it yesterday. I have seen clients who waited to long, and now they have to settle for some string of characters that does not match the business name very well and is far from optimal.

Example: Ask them if they could they benefit form filling a slot where someone calls in a cancellation short notice (for most offices, that is just lost money). If the answer is yes, then note how if that slot opening was to be announced on Twitter and Facebook accounts, where clients were explicitly told is the place information like this will be announced in the future, someone might see it and call in "Hey, I saw the opening, can I bring my kid in today?". Happy clients, happy doctors. Now ironically, even if no one uses it, the fact that you offer it would make some people say "yet another reason why I like the doctors office I go to".

Grab appropriate social sites to gain control of the real estate.
Post all valuable content on the main website. If you believe that people will like for a doctor in the SERPs then that should be the focus of best content. If you think that they will get a doc from social media then it might be worth doing.
If the physician has bought into social media and has a practice that would look engaged there then you might try it. However if the Doc is an old fart like me he might look out of place on social.

Even if your client is not actively trying to build his practice, grabbing his social media sites is still recommended. What happens if another person grabs those names and begins using them? It can cause a headache for your client to explain to his/her patients the social media site is owned by someone else.
Worse, what if the owner of the social media account offers bad advice or otherwise acquires a negative reputation. A facebook or twitter page with the same name as the doctor's office could build the page to rank higher then the doctor's website is SERPs.
Another consideration is connecting with patients. You can reach out to patients via phone, mail and e-mail but people move and many may not remember to update contact information with their doctors. Social media allows patients to connect with the doctor rather then having the doctor's office to connect with the patient. A doctor's address/phone number change, vacation and other information can be communicated once via social media and reach many patients who otherwise might be missed.

I think everyone needs a social presence regardless of the the niche your in. I have worked with a number of orthodontists who have and understand the importance of social media. For example being there to remind followers about the importance of appointments, the best way to brush, what food to eat etc and the beauty of this is it can be done at a local level and find people who are within there catchment area.

What is everyone using for social media reporting now?
Now that Moz has retired the social element, I'm at a loss as to what to use instead. What have you all switched to? We use Hootsuite to schedule Twitter and LinkedIn posts for our clients, and Facebook native mode for scheduling there. At the end of each month I produce an SEO report for each client and up to now, that's always included the social report from Moz. I want to be able to report on the following for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. what traffic has come to the client's website from each social channel growth in followers/fans engagement for the month eg how many retweets, likes, shares etc best performing posts on each channel I've looked at Sprout, but it seems to me that in order for Sprout to give you all the reporting info you need, you have to use it to manage all your social media channels, and as mentioned above, we already use Hootsuite for this. I don't want to switch completely. Twitter Analytics gives me the info I want for Twitter, but doesn't output this to a pdf style graphical report. I just want a nice summary to give my clients every month. Any ideas as to the best way to report on all this while still using Hootsuite to do the scheduling? My feeling is that I just want a flexible, easy to use and comprehensive reporting tool that covers all social channels, and not a social media management tool.

Twitter Help
Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask a question on Twitter. Something has perplexed me, both these tweets contain videos and both have been RT on my account On one you have to click into the BBC tweet to play the video, the other straight away plays and credits the original source. (see pics). When the video plays in the 2nd example you always get more interaction, RT's, likes etc compared to a RT where you have to click again. How does this happen? I've managed to do it once but cannot replicate it, even with the same tweet!! I'm sure it's something totally obvious. Here's how they look (images) http://imgur.com/a/G6ods

Google Analytics Social Settings
Hi, I'm a bit confused about the actual purpose of the social settings in Admin > Property > Social Settings. I've read some blogs saying it just helps analyse traffic that has arrived from your social media pages. Then I've found other sources saying you should add your own domain in there so you can track likes and shares sent from your website to social media platforms. What do I actually need to put in there and how does it help my data? Thanks!

Does adding a twitter or facebook feed to a website help rankings in regards of providing fresh content?
I have been asked if this is a sufficient way to provide fresh content to a website, however I am unsure if Google considers this as "fresh content", and I can't seem to come across a clear answer. Any thoughts?

Pay with a Tweet (or other social payments) in the Freemium world
Hi Mozer(s), I work for a company which provides cloud-based collaboration environments for companies. Like many companies in this field, we offer a Free package, which gives users enough capabilities to explore our tool under business-alike circumstances. However, we currently dont have a time limit for our free version - which, makes us (I think) quite unique from a competitive standpoint. But consequently, it also means a lot of users see no immediate need to upgrade to a business package. If maintaining this business model, we are considering various options in how to generate more awareness. The company is quite new and can generally only get better results of SEO and social media advancement. One alternative is to start charging for signup to the Free package, using Social payments scheme, i.e. get access to the collaboration tools for free if liking, tweeting, plusing us, using a pre-defined message, hashtag, etc, using a hybrid approach, allowing users to edit some/all of the message. It may have an impact on number of sign ups, but are there other potential negative effects? I have seen some comments, both positive and negative, about its SEO impact, mostly positive, not least from this [Youmoz post](How To: Win Tweets and Influence Search Engines with PayWithaTweet).- though unlikely to have a direct SEO effect, it can increase sharing, exposure and SERP presence. But any flip sides social payment users should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Building links to a Twitter/social account
I've seen plenty of articles about using Twitter to build links, but how about building links to a Twitter account? Does registering on sites and directories like Topsy, Twellow and Klout help? We can link to Twitter accounts on our own websites and other social profiles, and use it as our link on blog comments etc, but is there anywhere else specific?

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?
