Any way to make my page on top of results again?
-
Hello Everyone,
For a long time now I've had many of my website pages ranked on first page of results for some popular searches. On friday I noticed the traffic coming from google dropped dramatically and I realized that I was not on first page anymore.
My SEO is focused for Google Spain. Here are some examples:
http://msn-messenger.hispazone.com/ This page was on position 9 (first page) if we perform the search "Descargar msn" on Google. Now it's on page 3.
http://http://adobe-acrobat-reader.hispazone.com/ This was position 5 (first page) for the search "descargar adobe". Now it's also page 3.
Any suggestions?
Best Regards.

Research google panda. Many sites are in the same situation a you. Time + cleanup usually somewhat helps, according to rumors
-
It depends if Google did not like just one page, or your site in general. If all your site pages look similar to the one example, then it is likely your site was algorithmically penalized in which case you need to wait a month for your entire site to be crawled.
-
Well, with no visitors, no point for the customers to pay for the adds, so I will follow your advice.
I already started removing outbound links, adsense ads and with time I will probably do more.
I know there is nothing certain but, just looking at other sites cases you may know, how long should it take since I improve the site until Google Panda let's me rank better?
Thanks for everything.

I understand Mikel but you are in a catch-22 situation.
If you don't remove the links and the ads, you will not receive any traffic and therefore you will not earn the revenue. In your own words, your traffic has "dropped dramatically" and that wont change.
If you do make the proper adjustments, your traffic will return but you wont receive the money from your ads and links. There needs to be a balance. A couple, well placed tasteful ads can replace the many ads you currently offer. The same idea applies to links.
Like many other site owners you will likely resist this idea. In the end, you will likely have no choice but to make the adjustments. You cannot offer a spammy site with flashing ads and 83 external links and have high rankings for competitive keywords. Your site doesn't offer anything unique that a user cannot easily obtain elsewhere from another site without the ads and links.

I definitely agree with Google's SEO starter guide, I read it like 5 years ago for the first time and I read it a couple of times more since then. Together with it I also read many documents and whatched many videos appearing here at SEOmoz, but when it comes to apply it in real working websites it's not that easy because SEO, being a important part, it's not the only to take into account when running an internet business.
I hope I get over this Google Panda thing and find my way back to the good indexing.
Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I've read about Google Panda, I thought I was going to survive that as until last friday I didn't feel any drop.
I can remove the strip of text ads from google AdSense below the header, I don't know if it will be of help but it's worth a shot. Unfortunately I can't remove the rest, they don't come from adsense nor any other add network, they are direct customers and we cannot simply refuse them.
With the external links thing, I will give it a try as well but it's not easy as those external links are all part of the same website, different hostname in the same domain name for different program downloads on our database.
I agree with what you say and we do provide what people come looking for, but it's not easy to get rid of the rest of the things that let me and my colleagues get our salary to feed our family.
Let's see how I manage to remove as many outbound links as possible.
Thanks for your helpful reply.

BTW - everyone should re-read Google's SEO starter guide. It is remarkable how many people think they understand SEO, but have gotten their information from bad sources.
Thumbs up from me for this statement alone. It is so true.
Two short but incredible sources of information. Google's SEO starter guide which can be obtained from your link above, and the Beginner's Guide to SEO. If everyone understood those two guides their website performance would improve dramatically.

OK to save you the trouble of reading Google's official guide that would very likely point you in the right direction, here are a few things to check that could explain a sudden drop:
Content quality and originality - are these pages 100% original? Have you examined the technical side of your SEO with a tool like SEOMoz's On-Page grader?
Also, are the links to your site from good quality sites or are they from link farms, low quality directories, auto-blogs, etc. As Google continues to adjust Panda, many sites have dropped in the last week or so. Even if you are not directly hit by those changes, sites that link to you may have been which means those links have less value now.

Mikel, your page has far too many ads. I understand you probably run the site for the ad revenue, but the way I would look at it, each advertisement devalues your ranking, especially when they are thrown together in the manner on your site.
Ads:
-
ad in header
-
a strip of text ads below the header
-
ads at the top of the left sidebar
-
ads at the top of the right sidebar
-
ad above content at the top of the page
-
a second ad at the top of the right sidebar
-
ad in the footer
Besides the ads your site is a jumble of links. You have 16 internal links and 83 external links. That ratio is reversed. Your PR is flowing to other sites and not your own.
Try an experiment. Recreate this one page and pretend your goal was solely to provide the best MSN Messenger page on the internet. Pretend you sincerely wanted to help people. No ads, and only links that were truly helpful to people. Provide links to the main category of your site along with "what's hot" and perhaps links to "Download FireFox", etc. A page like that would rank much better.
It seems like you have been panda-whacked, and it will only get worse.

I bet there are, but i'm out of ideas.
I may be not a very good SEO but i'm definitely not new to this. I've been the whole weekend trying hard to figure it out and I still don't understand what went wrong, so i'm just asking for some few suggestions before i give up doing SEO on my own and get a proper SEO service from some company.
Thanks.

That is a pretty general question, and there are many possible reasons your site has dropped in rankings.

Rel canonical tag from shopify page to wordpress site page
We have pages on our shopify site example - https://shop.example.com/collections/cast-aluminum-plaques/products/cast-aluminum-address-plaque That we want to put a rel canonical tag on to direct to our wordpress site page - https://www.example.com/aluminum-plaques/ We have links form the wordpress page to the shop page, and over time ahve found that google has ranked the shop pages over the wp pages, which we do not want. So we want to put rel canonical tags on the shop pages to say the wp page is the authority. I hope that makes sense, and I would appreciate your feeback and best solution. Thanks! Is that possible?

Page dropped after backlink
This is a bit of a odd one... I put two new pages on to my website. And built one backlink to each page (each from separate domains). The pages and backlinks have indexed quite quickly. The odd thing is that one of my pages has dropped significantly in ranking but the other has boosted significantly in ranking! The 1st page has come to page 1 of google, the other pages dropped to page 3 of google. Prior to building the links the ranks was stable. Any ideas?

2 pages competing
Hi all, My website currently has 2 pages that address the theme 'property investment in manchester' or 'buy to let manchester'. https://www.knightknox.com/developments/manchester/ https://www.knightknox.com/investments/manchester I am a bit concerned that we are competing against ourselves for these keywords. In my opinion the /investments page provides better content, but the /developments page ranks higher in Google. What do you think would be the best course of action?: Leave as is Merge the contents of both pages Redirect the /developments to /investments Or something else? Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Competing with doorway pages
Hi all, it's my understanding that 'doorway pages' are bad practice. However, when googling for the services that our company offers, along the lines of '[service] [location]', businesses turn up in Google SERPs that outrank us purely with doorway pages. Take this as an example: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=seo+dorking One of the results is this company who seem to rank for pretty much every town modifier: https://prioritypixels.co.uk/seo-agency-dorking/ If you look at their sitemaps you'll see thousands of these pages: https://prioritypixels.co.uk/page-sitemap16.xml All the content is slightly different but broadly speaking it is very similar. It seems that, in the short term, we can't compete with this company but we could if we employed the same tactics. So my question is: is what they are doing really risking a penalty? b1Lpp5

Will Reducing Number of Low Page Authority Page Increase Domain Authority?
Our commercial real estate site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) contains about 800 URLs. Since 2012 the domain authority has dropped from 35 to about 20. Ranking and traffic dropped significantly since then. The site has about 791 URLs. Many are set to noindex. A large percentage of these pages have a Moz page authority of only "1". It is puzzling that some pages that have similar content to "1" page rank pages rank much better, in some cases "15". If we remove or consolidate the poorly ranked pages will the overall page authority and ranking of the site improve? Would taking the following steps help?: 1. Remove or consolidate poorly ranking unnecessary URLs?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kingalan1
2. Update content on poorly ranking URLs that are important?
3. Create internal text links (as opposed to links from menus) to critical pages? A MOZ crawl of our site's URLs is visible at the link below. I am wondering if the structure of the site is just not optimized for ranking and what can be done to improve it. THANKS. https://www.dropbox.com/s/oqchfqveelm1q11/CRAWL www.nyc-officespace-leader.com (1).csv?dl=0 Thanks,

How should I deal with this page?
Hey Mozzers, I was looking for a little guidance and advice regarding a couple of pages on my website. I have used 'shoes' for this example. I have the current structure Parent Category - Shoes Sub Categories - Blue Shoes
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | ATP
Hard Shoes
Soft Shoes
Big Shoes etc Supporting Article - Different Types of Shoe and Their Uses There are about 12 subcategories in total - each one links back to the Parent Category with the keyword "Shoes". Every sub category has gone from ranking 50+ to 10-30th for its main keyword which is a good start and as I release supporting articles im sure each one will climb. I am happy with this. The Article ranks no1 for about 20 longtails terms around "different shoes". This page attracts around 60% of my websites traffic but we know this traffic will not convert as most are people and children looking for information only for educational purposes and are not looking to buy. Many are also looking for a type of product we dont sell. My issue is ranking for the primary category "Shoes" keyword. When i first made the changes we went from ranking nowhere to around 28th on the parent category page targeted at "Shoes". Whilst not fantastic this was good as gave us something to work off. However a few weeks later, the article page ranked 40th for this term and the main page dropped off the scale. Then another week some of the sub category pages ranked for it. And now none of my pages rank in the top 50 for it. I am fairly sure this is due to some cannibalisation - simply because of various pages ranking for it at different times.
I also think that additional content added by products on the sub category pages is giving them more content and making them rank better. The Page Itself
The Shoes page itself contains 400 good unique words, with the keyword mentioned 8 times including headings. There is an image at the top of the page with its title and alt text targeted towards the keyword. The 12 sub categories are linked to on the left navigation bar, and then again below the 400 words of content via a picture and text link. This added the keyword to the page another 18 or so times in the form of links to longtail subcaterogies. This could introduce a spam problem i guess but its in the form of nav bars or navigation tables and i understood this to be a necessary evil on eCommerce websites. There are no actual products linked from this page. - a problem? With all the basic SEO covered. All sub pages linking back to the parent category, the only solution I can think of is to add more content by Adding all shoes products to the shoe page as it currently only links out the the sub categories Merging the "Different Type of Shoe and Their Uses" article into the shoe page to make a super page and make the article pages less like to produce cannibalistic problems. However, by doing solution 2, I remove a page bringing in a lot of traffic. The traffic it brings in however is of very little use and inflates the bounce rate and lowers the conversion rate of my whole site by significant figures. It also distorts other useful reports to track my other progress. I hope i have explained well enough, thanks for sticking with me this far, i havn't posted links due to a reluctance by the company so hopefully my example will suffice. As always thanks for any input.0 -
Best way for Google and Bing not to crawl my /en default english pages
Hi Guys, I just transferred my old site to a new one and now have sub folder TLD's. My default pages from the front end and sitemap don't show /en after www.mysite.com. The only translation i have is in spanish where Google will crawl www.mysite.com/es (spanish). 1. On the SERPS of Google and Bing, every url that is crawled, shows the extra "/en" in my TLD. I find that very weird considering there is no physical /en in my urls. When i select the link it automatically redirects to it's default and natural page (no /en). All canonical tags do not show /en either, ONLY the SERPS. Should robots.txt be updated to "disallow /en"? 2. While i did a site transfer, we have altered some of the category url's in our domain. So we've had a lot of 301 redirects, but while searching specific keywords in the SERPS, the #1 ranked url shows up as our old url that redirects to a 404 page, and our newly created url shows up as #2 that goes to the correct page. Is there anyway to tell Google to stop showing our old url's in the SERP's? And would the "Fetch as Google" option in GWT be a great option to upload all of my url's so Google bots can crawl the right pages only? Direct Message me if you want real examples. THank you so much!

We are changing ?page= dynamic url's to /page/ static urls. Will this hurt the progress we have made with the pages using dynamic addresses?
Question about changing url from dynamic to static to improve SEO but concern about hurting progress made so far.
