Homepage ranking before optimized page
-
We finally managed to obtain a spot in the first 10 positions of the serps for our main keyword.
Since a week, our homepage started ranking in the top 15 as well, so we we're pretty excited about that. On our way to dominate the top 10!
Since 2 days we started to rank with our homepage before our optimized page, which sucks because the metadescription (made up by Google) isn't helping our CTR.
Is there a way that we can show Google that the other page is more relevant than the homepage?
Or do we have to wait until we have build up enough PA to switch places with the homepage (seems unlikely to me).

I can't say i understand it either. If Dutch is the language you're targeting then I can see it's frustrating that this is the language search that seems to be coming up with the wrong page!
Are you setting the language correctly? A quick look at the source seems to show the language code wrapped in IE conditionals.
Don't know if this helps (it's a bit old):
-
So weird because the page is fully in dutch, the only english words on there are Copyright and disclaimer if i'm not mistaken.
But might look into the language issue as well.
-
I've sent you a private message, but as I mentioned in the message I suspect that there are some language factors coming in to play.
You provided me with the keyword, your domain and the specific ranking page and told me that you were using google.be
I noted when using the keyword ranking tool on SEOmoz, the results were different depending on the language selected:
google.be (dutch) - homepage was ranking at #8
google.be (english) - optimised page was ranking at #7
google.be (french) - optimised page was ranking at #10.
My guess here is that the optimised page isn't looking particularly dutch!
I don't know if anyone else has any advice on this as I do not have any multi-lingual SEO experience!
Hope this helps.

Without the ability to examine the site, we are practicing blind SEO. I would suggest it is not a secret to your competitors that you are trying to rank well for keywords related to your site. The question becomes, how important is your site's SEO?
Generically speaking, you want to ensure the target page is truly optimized for the term. I enjoy the seomoz tools but a "grade A" does not truly mean your page is optimized for the term. There are often additional steps which can be taken.
One step you can take is to offer an anchor text link in the content of your home page to the target page. Another step is to earn a couple anchor text links to the target page.
Rand wrote an excellent article on this topic: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions
-
Can't really disclose any details, since some of my competitors are on seomoz as well
What I can say is that the optimized page for the 3-word-keyword got a grade A and has following stats according to
opensiteexplorer:PA: 23
DA: 40
Linking RD: 1
Total Links: 58The homepage doesn't contain the exact match of our keyword combo in its text, but we've got a footer link. The 3 keywords are used seperatly in the text on the homepage.
PA: 50
DA: 40
Linking RD: 98 Total Links: 880and some social media data which the optimized page doesn't have.
Hopefully i've giving enough info this time

More Singular KW Targeted Landing Pages vs. Less Multiple KW Targeted Landing Pages
So my question is... I have a adopted a site which currently ranks quite well for some industry competitive keywords with a number of poor quality landing pages which specifically target a singular keyword. I am wondering if its worth merging some of these pages together into one authoritative, better quality landing page targeting multiple keywords (as the intent for some of these keywords are largely the same). What i don't want to do is jeopardise the existing rankings in doing so. The alternative option would just be to improve the content on the existing landing pages without merging. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are there any positive case studies out there where merging has had a positive effect? Any help would be great. Regards,

Keyword Appearing on Home Page - Moz Page Grader
Hi Today I entered www.partydomain.co.uk through the Moz Page Grader and found that the Home Page is Ranked B. I noticed that an Area we could improve on is the amount of times we are using our main keyword "Fancy Dress" on the home page. Please can you take a look at www.partydomain.co.uk and scroll to the bottom of the page were the tabs are containing losts of content. I am thinking about removing all of thoose Tabs. Our Competitors dont have any content as such on the home page and are ranking higher than Party Domain for "fancy dress" What do you think ? remove all the tabs to be like the others that rank better? Or cut the text right down ? Thanks Adam

Does the title tag on the home page affect sub-pages?
Hello. I am thinking of changing our home page title tag to include our two most valuable keywords from two of our sub-pages. Would this help the rankings of those two sub-pages? Thank you!

Please review page for on page SEO
I'm working on an adult dating site review blog and am hoping to build links to the category pages. It's a wordpress blog so the posts are categorised by topics. However can you tell me if there is enough content on the page for google to identify what the page is about? The problem is that the content of each category pages is pulled from the posts. What I think is needed is some static text on the page 2-300 words that use the keyword. Here's an example of a page targeting the keywords 'online dating'. http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com/category/online-dating/

Would I be safe canonicalizing comments pages on the first page?
We are building comment pages for an article site that live on a separate URL from the article (I know this is not ideal, but it is necessary). Each comments page will have a summary of the article at the top. Would I be safe using the first page of comments as the canonical URL for all subsequent comment pages? Or could I get away with using the actual article page as the canonical URL for all comment pages?

URL for location pages
Hello all We would like to create clean, easy URLs for our large list of Location pages. If there are a few URLs for each of the pages, am I right when I'm saying we would like this to be the canonical? Right now we would like the URL to be: For example
On-Page Optimization | | Ferguson
Domain.com/locations/Columbus I have found some instances where there might be 2,3 or more locations in the same city, zip. My conclusion for these would be: adding their Branch id's on to the URL
Domain.com/locations/Columbus/0304 Is this an okay approach? We are unsure if the URL should have city,State, zip for SEO purposes?
The pages will have all of this info in it's content
BUT what would be best for SEO and ranking for a given location? Thank you for any info!0 -
