HON Code Certification--how important is it for a health site?
-
How important is HON code for a health site? I am working on a client's site (health-related) that was hit by Panda and am wondering if anyone knows of any studies or has any personal experience with Panda & HON code?
-
I don't work in that sector myself, but I have a friend who does, was hit heavily by Panda and tried HON code as part of a recovery strategy.
He seems to have clawed his way out of Panda this week, but doesn't attribute it to the HON code directly. However HON does impose some criteria that are probably good to stick with in order to build trust in that sector, which might give off some secondary signals. In short some of the stuff he did to get the HON accreditation probably helped even if the accreditation itself didn't.
For reference his attributes much of his recovery to removing thinner content - ensuring he has 1 article per topic and making it a better article by combining similar ones.

Links from a penalised site.
Hey Mozzers, Recently we have had a series of agencies in to pitch for work, one group mentioned that due to our association with a possibly penalised product review website, any links and activity associated with the brand would hinder our SEO. We currently have a good rating, but we are now no longer pushing our customers to the site as we move to a new platform. The current link back from this website is also no-followed. Any thoughts on how this could impact us? And how the agencies determined the site was penalised and causing us problems. Cheers Tim

Question about region codes and Hreflang?
A client (see example above) has accidentally place region codes into the hreflang when the content is intended for all audiences that speak the language. So "fr-fr" should really just be "fr" since those that are "fr-be", "fr-ca", and "fr-ch" should all be getting to the French version of the website too. And there isn't a specific subdirectory for French speakers in Belgium or France or Switzerland, etc. However, when looking at Google Analytics, these region codes don't seem to be stopping those from other regions from getting to the correct landing page. So a user from Belgium is still getting to https://www.example.com/fr/ depsite the "fr-fr" in the hreflang. So question: is it worth adjusting the hreflang to be non-region specific (from

Search console site verification
I've been going on the assumption that when verifying a website in search console, it's always good to register and verify all variants of the site URL: http https www non-www However, if you create redirects to the preferred URL, is it really necessary to register/virfy of the other three? If so, why?

Link juice site structure?
If we have a top nav with contact us, about us, delivery, FAQ, Gallery, how to order ect but none of these we want to rank and then we have the usual left hand nav.are we wasting juice with the top nav and would we be better either removing it and putting them further down the page or consolidating them and adding an extra products tab so the product pages are first.
