High DA Press Release Site
-
Hi Guys,
So we have just received a message from Google confirming that we have an un-natural link profile.
We are currently in the process of gathering all our links and going through them 1 by 1, at the moment I'm just stuck deciding if we should remove this link.
It's a high profile PR site, its updated every day with quality news??
What do you guys think of this?
Thanks,
Scott

Well, there's not quite enough detail in what you said for me to get a totally clear picture, but let me through some stuff out there and you can follow up to make sure you get a good answer.
It sounds like you have 20 links that are exact match. How big is your overall link profile. If you only have about 40 links, yeah, that's a problem. If you have thousands of links, it won't matter too much. It sounds like you don't have a big link profile. I'd spend most of my time right now not worrying too much about the bad links (though if you can write to webmaster of the site they are on and get them removed, it may not be a bad idea. We've worked with people doing that before). I'd spend most of my time building quality links. Make sure you have the standard directory type stuff, blog links, etc. That will help build up your profile and make sure the exact match aren't too high of a %. Then try to build some high quality links with generic (i.e. - natural) anchor text.
That's where I would start.

Adam,
What would you suggest if after everything you suggested you realized that your top 20 anchors are exact match money keywords? How do you recommend diluting the link profile if the site is an old site (12 years+) and has a large number of links.
-
I wouldn't necessarily count a press release site as 'unnatural' - you should be more focused on sitewide, direct match anchor text links, article marketing sites, blog networks, etc.
Just be sure you're only removing links that you know are there to manipulate rankings, and that usually means direct match anchor text. I wouldn't be concerned about brand-name links.
You may well be better served focusing your time on creating some high quality content and gaining some high quality, relevant backlinks.

That one probably isn't the issue (unless google specifically identified it as such).
Take a look at your backlink profile. Sort them by anchor text. Are there any blocks of links that have the same anchor text, likely keyword saturated? Take a look at the pages that they are coming from. It's likely that this is where your bad links are coming from. It's what we've seen most often. That's where I would start.

But they have asked us to remove the links that are un-natural?
Thanks,
Scott

It's pretty natural to have press releases in your backlink portfolio. I'd spend more time going after high quality links than trying to remove spammy ones if I was you. You'll never get rid of all the spammy ones, and all Google needs is one to penalize you.

Is it better to have backlinks from domains with medium DA, UR, using same language and good relevancy, or backlinks from domains with high DA, UR but using another language and with less relevancy?
Dear all, while I understand that quality backlinks with high DA, UR, same-language and relevancy would be best, would backlinks with high DA, UR but less relevancy and using languages other than the one used in my website be something good? Or would they do more harm than anything else and still be outcompeted by backlinks with lower DA, UR but same language and/or more relevancy? Thank you Frank

Advice for brand new site
Dear All I have been an SEO for several years now, and have just laucnhed a new site www.householdsaver.co.uk its in its early stages as I expect to add a community option where people post deals and offers they have found, share them with friends etc My question is really are all the old seo practices still worth doing? Things like directory sites, blog comments, articles sites, social bookmarking etc.... (I have already built up twitter users on the account before the site went live) With Moz's trust factor is it best to go for highrank trust sites first or... I guess you could say that I am suffering from what do I do first and is it all still worth doing and what are the early pit falls to think about..? ie too many links too soon and from to high or to low trusted sites? Any comments from anyone who have put a new site live in the past couple of years would be appricated. Thanks James

Any good content sites with good quality links?
I have some content which is still relevant and interesting but not really suitable for my current websites. I have been thinking of using this on an article site to generate some links back to my sites, but I am wary about this due to Google's targeting of content sites. I currently have good PR's on Squidoo and Hubpages which link back and work quite well. Can anyone suggest any others or any ideas how to use this content for SEO purposes? Is using it for article submissions to get links short sited?

Submitting Same Press Release to Multiple Sources
I've never considered this as a good practice, but is there any benefit to submitting a press release to one PR source, then going to other PR sources and submitting the same content? My main goal, currently on one project, is the soul purpose of link building and backlinking. I see this as duplicate content, although I am seeing competitors submitting the same press release multiple times trying to reap some sort of benefit from it. In my honest opinion, I would rather submit 1 different press release each week throughout the course of a month to a quality site like PRLog or PRweb. Comments? Opinions? I would really like to hear them.
