Anchor text diversity - post penguin.
-
Hi,
It seems that achor text diversity is hugely important post penguin but what's the best strategy? What kind of anchor text should I be going for? As I understand it more that 60% of links with the keywords in trigger a google flag. For example are the following good examples for the term 'wedding singer'?
local wedding singer, best wedding singer, wedding singer website, hire wedding singer.
Would these cause triggers in google as all contain the keyword 'wedding singer'?
Or should I be going for:
click here, visit us, listen now, view a profile
Obviously these words don't contain the anchor text 'wedding singer' but with a few exact match #wedding singer' anchor texts and good on page SEO will this mix give better results?

I think for a start you need to not worry about percentages or nit-picking over calculations. Here are some basic principles
- Firstly make sure your website itself is great and that your content reads well for human beings, then perform your on-site optimisation to make sure the site is primed for your choice of keywords. In my view, if you've selected your keywords, your on-page optimisation has to be the next step - because any visitors you are bringing into your site from search must be engaged and interested. Get some colleagues/friends to read it through.
- Then begin your link-building. Make sure you have a range of type of link - editorial posts, reviews or relevant articles you've written, some directories maybe, get engaged into some relevant communities to what you do - have you exhibited at a wedding fair? Then see if the venue organisers list their exhibiters and get listed.
- You will need to have a good proportion of links with your target anchor text - but they must be in-context, so worry about that aspect on the sites you have the most control over - i.e. doing an article on a wedding blog about selecting the right music for your wedding. If link building is done 'naturally' then the range of anchor texts will come as different sites will link to you in different ways.
- Some may allow keyword-rich anchors
- Some will be business name
- Some will be 'Website'
- Some will be your website URL etc etc
- Google in particular likes brand value - so ensure you are building awareness of your brand through all your marketing activities, through online and offline means.
So build a strategy for your link building but make sure the keyword range is broad and steer clear of 'best wedding singer' unless you've got sufficient awards or something that merits the title.
Oh and one final thing might be to grow your own website with relevant information or helpful articles, or even different styles of singing you do. Some couples may want a romantic wedding singer or a 'fun, jazzy' one. You could easily broaden your keyword appeal by not limiting all your keywords to 'wedding singer'-oriented ones.
Hope this helps.

Penguin impact - October 2014
I am on head of the SEO of a national real estate website that was impacted by the Google Penguin updates on October 2014\. ... we have made some changes on site, anchors text, new pages products / listings, setting up micro data ... nothing moves. (almost 60% of natural traffic and less, based on 25 000 / month) We have a basic aggregated content (real estate ads) and a base of rich content, a little soup admittedly ... Several portals are in line with the same code, and they have not been impacted. I identified a concern that can cause these issues ... the contents of the site have been indexed impacted (configuration simplicity) on other portals, running October 2014 (almost 1000 pages duplicates) .. . the concerned website has been fixed but nothing moves ... Non-impacted sites grew little (but does not drop), the site affected is falling ... I'm at an impasse. What do you advise me to do? Is this jump config which resulted indexing over 1000 pages on other sites alone can justify this loss and this non-recovery (confidence index)? Do soup contents must be moved, corrected, collect altogether? (I tend towards the latter solution, few rank pages and glad is really light) Should there be a complete overhaul. Links between all portals exist ... he may also be affected if nothing changes?

Finding a good guest posting service
I'm looking for any recommendations for a high-quality guest posting service that isn't posting to placing articles on their own network of websites, but instead has relationships with blog owners who will take good quality guest posts. And I'm willing to pay up for high-quality sites. Thanks for any suggestions, including suggestions on how to find these services if you don't want to say any names.

Should you ever change your anchor text ?
Hello I have a question about anchors. I have done all my own seo over the last 3 years, with tools from various sites. I had an seo audit done about 1 month ago and was told my link profile was very natural. They had one recommendation. To go back over my link profile and ask some webmasters if they would change the anchor from the name of my site or my url to a more seo friendly phrase. This seemed logical. I never did a lot of anchor text just name or site or url. Anyway, over last 4 weeks I have messaged several webmasters and asked to have anchor text changed to something along the lines of the keywords Im targeting. Tedious task to go through all the links but I changed several anchors to what was recommended. I was also out link building at same time. These last links and I got several of them all natural links after 16 hours work days. Are all will seo friendly anchors, because as Ive gotten more experienced my links have gotten more in lines of what is "seo friendly" or at least I hoped. I asked one webmaster to change my anchor and he warned me I would be slapped with a penguin penalty and wouldn't recommend I do this. I have already done this to several of my links. Then today the new seomoz update came up and I was down on DA and PA by 3-4 points. Do these have anything to do with one another and have I been given bad advice and can I fix it if I have ? Sorry about long post just a little confused. I don't want to step into penalty land and not know I did.

Penguin,No warning message from Google
I'm losing traffic & I have been since April. I'm pretty sure it's Penguin but I have not received any messages from Google. Should I proceed with the disavowal tool to remove some of the spammy directory links? PS Submit Edge is owned by the Devil

I am just a beginner in SEO. But has any of the changes recently implemented by google affected out bound links? Meaning if a website now has a good number of outbound links to strong websites and pages could that Translate to better rankings?

Sites Ranked Again - Post Penguin SEO Help
Got destroyed by Penguin because of questionable links. I had most of the links removed and my sites have been restored for the most part - though lower than they previously ranking for keywords. What is the best SEO strategy to move up in rank? Link Building strategy? Is there a penalty for domains that have keywords in them?

I was looking for the best practice to use anchor tags...
Seomoz says NOT to use your anchor terms on other external pages as you will cannabilize your main page - this is news to me. Appreciate any input on this.

"Diverse" Links from same IP address worth the work?
Hi folks, This is my first posting, so please be nice with me 🙂 I have completed an all-new website (www.buy-hosting.net) , however the domain is bought and already exists since 2 years, but has no inbound links though. Now I start building links. I have some clients of my web design business, I could bring in links to my new site on their sites from different domains, some established and years old. However, they all are hosted at the same IP address. Is it a good idea for link diversity to post links on their site to my new one? I remember a thing, that only 1 link will be counted, originating from the same IP address. Is this worth the work of asking clients, posting links, etc.? Or is it even dangerous to my new site? Also, any other ideas about how to start link building are welcome. Is there a comprahensive list, something like a "startes guide with practical ideas" to link building? Thank you and kind regards
