How do I correctly use YouTube?
-
Hello!
I have a someone that does online guitar lessons - their site is www.frethub.com. They use YouTube videos to promote the lessons on their site like this one - http://youtu.be/C1dOYys0H14, they're not the complete lesson but an intro to entice them on. The videos are of a really high quality and have had a few hundred hits in a couple of months - when I did a search on YouTube for "ledato guitar lesson" as an example they were nowhere to be seen despite the quality of the video and using tags etc.
Anyway long intro! What I was wondering is are the rankings on YouTube based predominantly on number of hits or is there a way to use the tags better (presently they put in keywords and what comes up in the autosuggest), does how recently they were uploaded, author authority etc have anything to do with it?
I appreciate it's a massive subject so any help is much appreciated
Thanks alot!

Look at the annotations here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qc_hgpe6eA
You can put "Subscribe to Our YouTube Channel Now" or something similar.
Some advice, don't think it's tacky to put this on your videos. They are free anyway.
By the way, I used to be like those guys in that video. Now I were a suit and lost the accent LOL.

Hello - thank you so much for answering! Do you mean put a screen up at the end saying something like "if you like this video give us a thumbs up and subscribe"? Is it ok to do that and not seen as too tacky?
-
That's wonderful thank you - I can go back to them with something solid and make a plan now!
-
I would try to get more thumbs up. I actually would put it during the video. Also I would put "SUBSCRIBE to Our Channel"

Yes, great starting points. Some of the fields may be different but the overall concept is the same as page SEO (page title, headline, text, etc.). Adding it through their site is also great as is social sharing.

Thanks so much for responding! So having keywords in the title text and closed caption, perhaps promoting the video on their website to encourage hits and promoting throughout their social media network to encourage some shares and links back perhaps - would that be a good start? I have bookmarked that website - thanks so much! It's really appreciated

SEO for these videos may need a bit more help. Higher number of views is good, however, selecting specific keywords - per video - is important, using them in the title, text and closed caption also make a big difference.
So,for example, I wouldn't recommend trying to optimize multiple videos for "ledato guitar lesson." Inbound links to the videos/video embeds also play a role. This is a great site for video SEO that can get into lots of detail: http://www.reelseo.com/

If you would care to share your experience with the questions below, I would appreciate hearing what you have learned. Thank you. Have you been using an image sitemap? Do you think that it has brought some benefits to your domain's presence in image search? Did you include thumbnail - size images or only the full size images?

Can you get rich snippets for Youtube hosted videos?
My website has several videos, mostly product reviews and tutorials. I'd like for these videos to show in the SERPs with rich snippets, but I am hosting them through Youtube. What is your experience with Youtube hosted videos? Do they generate rich snippets? Or will Google always rank the Youtube video over your web page?

Is it considered duplicate contentnt to post a video to youtube then embed that video on our website's FAQs page?
Essentially, I am answering popular questions we are asked and answering them in a video. Once I post it on youtube, I take the video, add it to our FAQ page, and when someone clicks on the question, a new page opens with the question, the video, and the written answer to the question underneath it. Thanks for any advice. watch?v=bwGRmvnCn7w

What's the best method for posting the same video with different phone and address on YouTube?
For a franchise network, what's the best method for posting the same video that is tagged with different phone numbers and address per each location on YouTube? Will this get removed as duplicate content eventually? Or if I use the geo-tagging feature, will this help?

Placing video testimonials on website vs. YouTube
We have produced a number of video guest testimonials. Any SEO considerations or other hosting it on our website (what software to use?) vs. YouTube (and just embedding it on the webpage)? Are there certain situation or circumstances when YouTube is not the best choice for placing video on a website? Thanks.
