Magento Hidden Products & Google Not Found Errors
-
We recently moved our website over to the Magento eCommerce platform. Magento has functionality to make certain items not visible individually so you can, for example, take 6 products and turn it into 1 product where a customer can choose their options. You then hide all the individual products, leaving only that one product visible on the site and reducing duplicate content issues.
We did this. It works great and the individual products don't show up in our site map, which is what we'd like. However, Google Webmaster Tools has all of these individual product URLs in its Not Found Crawl Errors.
! For example:
White t-shirt URL: /white-t-shirt
Red t-shirt URL: /red-t-shirt
Blue t-shirt URL: /blue-t-shirt
All of those are not visible on the site and the URLs do not appear in our site map. But they are all showing up in Google Webmaster Tools.
Configurable t-shirt URL: /t-shirt
This product is the only one visible on the site, does appear on the site map, and shows up in Google Webmaster Tools as a valid URL. !
Do you know how it found the individual products if it isn't in the site map and they aren't visible on the website? And how important do you think it is that we fix all of these hundreds of Not Found errors to point to the single visible product on the site? I would think it is fairly important, but don't want to spend a week of man power on it if the returns would be minimal.
Thanks so much for any input!

I also have this same issue.... looking for a solution.
-
Hi there,
I know this is an older question, but I wanted to follow up to see if you found a solution. We're currently experiencing the same issue with simple/not visible individually URLs appear in WMT's crawl error report.
Thanks in advance for any help!
-
The problem I am currently facing is a site where the individual 'Simple Products' were not set to be invisible. They have all been indexed!
So I have the same question really.
-
Yes, the page is modified based on selected options and it is done via Javascript.
-
OK. In a product page, the individual page is modified by a customer selecting options? If so, is that accomplished with Javascript substitution?
-
So those individual pages never actually appear on the site. They are just created to allow Magento to pull inventory on those items from that configurable product, which is why I'm not sure how Google is finding them.
For example, if I go to mysite.com/white-t-shirt, I would get a 404 (and if I searched for it, nothing would come up) because as far as the world outside of Magento admin is concerned, that URL doesn't exist.
-
How do those pages appear? In response to an AJAX call? A sitesearch? I've been hearing that Google has increased their ability to crawl pages that appear through dynamic calls.

Negative SEO & How long does it take for Google to disavow
Following on from a previous problem of 2 of our main pages completely dropping from index, we have discovered that 150+ spam, porn domains have been directed at our pages (sometime in the last 3-4 months, don't have an exact date). Does anyone have exerpeince on how long it may take Google to take noticed of a new disavow list? Any estimates would be very helpful in determining our next course of action.

Google Manual Action Disappear
Hi Guys, I have a website that received unnatural link message. We had started link removal process, disavowed not approachable links and file reconsideration four times but all the times Google sent some samples of unnatural links and rejected our reconsideration. Last week we again disavowed non approachable links and planned to file reconsideration after a week but today when i tried to file reconsideration, Manual action message was disappeared. We haven't received any message from Google. The same case was happened with one more of our site earlier. Manual action disappeared means it has been revoked or something else??

Does text, initially hidden within a tabbed structure, carry the same weight in Google?
Hi everyone, my site has suffered from a number of organic drops this year, following a redesign, panda, and penguin. An example of one of my key pages is shown below: http://www.concerthotels.com/venue-hotels/bridgestone-arena-hotels/326895 Earlier this year, I redesigned my site, so that, for example, 4 pages associated with each Bridgestone Arena (a page with nearby hotels, one for user reviews, one for upcoming events, one for general information) were combined into one "Bridgestone Arena Hotels" page. The reason I did this is because I felt that many of the pages were very thin. My new page has tabs for reviews, tickets etc., with the default tab listing nearby hotel information - the primary aim of my website. I'm worried that all the great unique user review information that I'm collecting is not being given the weighting it deserves, because it is content that is not immediately visible when the user lands on the page - only click the Reviews tab makes the content visible. The hidden content is definitely being picked up by Google e.g. searching for a portion of the review content in Google such as "We were here for the Aerosmith concert. The workers were so friendly and helpful - great experience!" serves up the Bridgestone Arena page in the results. But do you think Google still sees the page as being pretty thin in content, because much of the unique content is initially hidden? I am considering introducing a little featured reviews section to the visible content, that just includes a couple of the latest venue reviews, with a link to open the reviews tab. But if I have some review content here, and the same reviews in a hidden section of the same page, is Google likely to treat this as spammy? Thanks for your help and advice, Mike

Keywords under product listing pages
Hi guys, One of my main concerns when we start redesigning the site Trespass.co.uk, is the current pages like this one http://www.trespass.co.uk/snow-sports/clothing/ski-jackets/womens-ski-jackets are bordering over optimisation. Is this the case as each product listed in the url above has "womens ski jacket" under each product. If we have 50 products on each product listing page with the product name + type of product, ie. flora womens ski jacket, xyz mens waterproof jacket. Are we over optimising the page for the main keywords by having them under each product? Would that page be over optimised for womens ski jackets? Thanks guys

Should i fix 404 my errors?
We have about 250, 404 errors due to changing alot of page names throughout our site. I've read some articles saying to leave them and eventually they will go away. Normally I would do a 301 redirect. What's the best solution?

Somthing weird in my Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors...
Hey, I recently (this past may) redesigned my e-commerce site from .asp to .php. I am trying to fix all the old pages with 301 redirects that didn't make it in the switch, but I keep getting weird pages coming up in GWT. I have about 400 pages under crawl errors that look like this "emailus.php?id=MD908070" I delete them and they come back. my site is http://www.moondoggieinc.com the id #'s are product #'s for products that are no longer on the site, but the site is .php now. They also do not show a sitemap they are linked in or any other page that they are linked from. Are these hurting me? and how do I get rid of them? Thanks! KristyO
